Recommendation:

Recommendation for AEP students: Acknowledged the differences between highschool

and university, students need to take initiative during study process as a freshman, for
example, asking for experience from seniors and professors or self-teaching through
books and the Internet. Another important addition is having a plan to balance the time
for study and other activities to assure academic result while developing social skills. To
get over the difficulties in socializing, it is suggested that students participate in clubs or
contests to meet people with the same interests or conception.

Recommendation for teachers:Teachers play an important role in giving directions to

students, especially new subjects like philosophy and specialized ones. Therefore, they
could instruct them how to study their subject and how to self-study from the start of
the course and continuously support them during the beginning time.

Recommendation for AEP program: In order to support students’ adjustment to life at

university, AEP should take a number of measures. Given the current situation of students
struggling with unfamiliar skills, it is recommended that workshops or meetings with
precursors be opened to share experiences and tips to overcome the problem. On-line forums
had better be established so that students from year 1 to year 4 can share documents and
study method to support each other during the study process. Moreover, AEP should set up a
higher standard for selection process (for example, English command) to single out the most
capable students to pursue the program. This would not only ease the problem of low
academic adaptation, but also gather like-minded individuals together, facilitating their
socializing. AEP director is suggested to hold more events such as outdoor trips, contests, or
club to boost their networking and connect those sharing common mindset. These steps will
promisingly reduce the problem facing future AEP generations and mitigate the negative
influence of stress on present students.

Limitations:

Limitations in the method of choosing population: The number of participants are less
than anticipated, therefore, the research can not lead to the conclusion for the whole
AEP undergraduates of the 59 th course. The uneven ratio of gender is also an obstacle to
investigate the impact of gender on adaptability.

Limitation in research method: Due to the lack of experience of researchers, the result
are mostly based on the subjective evaluation of participants instead of quantitative
method. Hence, shortcomings are unavoidable in analyzing the data.

Recommendation for further research:

Should future research in the same subject be conducted, it is suggested to expand the
number of respondents and prolong the time to obtain data so that the raw input is
sufficient for an overview situation of AEP students. Further study could assure the
equal participation of all genders including LGBT who still face the preconceptions of
society and sometimes find it more difficult to adapt to new environment.
Questionnaire should mainly ask question about objective information including facts
and relatively exact number and researchers then build up model and use software to
analyze and verify the data. Another recommendation for further development is to go
into details each aspect of adaptability and figure out the underlying cause of each
phenomenon.
