Chloride in beverages by precipitation titration

This application is used to determine the chloride content in beverages by titration with AgNO3. The titration is monitored
by potentiometric measurement with a Silver sensor and the titration curve is evaluated at the inflection point to determine
the equivalence point (EQP).

Sample Beverages, in this application: red wine, 40 mL

Preparation • Add 40 mL red wine with a 20 mL Rainin pipette into the titration beaker
procedures • Add 1 mL10% (w/v) H2SO4

Compound Chloride, M = 35.45 g/mol

Chemicals • 1 mL 10% (w/v) H2SO4

• 40 mL 0.02 mol/L H2SO4

Titrant • Titrant: AgNO3, 0.1 mol/L

• Titer: 5 mL 0.1 mol/L NaCl in 40 mL 0.02 mol/L H2SO4

Waste dispos. Heavy metal waste

Comments • The salt content in beverages can vary significantly. So it may be necessary to adapt the method to
sample.
• For low salt content 0.01 mol/L AgNO3 is recommended as titrant.

Limits Sample size limits (Min – Max): 10 – 60 mL
