ANSWERS & EXPLANATION

APTITUDE TEST –Test (2523) – 2018

1: (c)
The passage discusses how contrary to the expectation, India didn’t face much problem during the
financial crisis. The mentioned reasons include the large domestic market and its limited external sector.
Thus, the main idea of the passage is that domestic market oriented economy remains relatively
insulated to global changes. Thus, Option (c) is the correct answer.
Option (a) is incorrect because here developing countries are not compared with other countries.
Option (b) is incorrect because though the contribution of RBI is mentioned here, it can’t be said that it
dictates the economic policies.
Option (d) is incorrect because from the facts available from the passage, we can’t make a general
statement on how government should work.

2: (a)
Assumption in statement 1 is correct because the passage says that large currency causes holding on to
actual money. Thus, it can be assumed that large currency notes decreases the public’s tendency to
spend money.
Assumption in statement 2 is incorrect because negating it does not affect the validity of the passage.

3: (c)
Option (a) is incorrect because the passage is not about the ability to compete. It’s about the total
possessions.
Option (b) is incorrect because it uses a superlative “biggest” while the passage makes no such claim.
Further, the focus of passage is not on total possessions but relative possessions.
Option (c) is correct because the passage discusses how a person can become dissatisfied if he finds a
larger house in his vicinity i.e. relative social position shrinks.
Option (d) is incorrect because the passage is not talking about egalitarianism.

4: (a)
The passage discusses why we should not let others know that we are trying to convince them. Thus, we
should do that subtly. Option (a) is therefore the correct answer.
Option (b) is incorrect because the passage is not about morality.
Option (c) is incorrect because the origin of this ability is not discussed here.
Option (d) is incorrect because the passage is not specific to wise person.

5: (c)
The passage explains how natural variability is also affecting climate. Thus, it can be assumed that
climate change can have both natural as well as anthropogenic causes. Option (c) is therefore correct.
Option (a) is incorrect because we can’t say whose contribution towards climate change is more.
Because of the same reason, Option (b) is also incorrect.
Option (d) is incorrect because the passage is nowhere questioning climate change.
1 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS
6: (d)
The passage discusses how a voting system accommodates everyone. Therefore, it is not a special
privilege but a necessary and equal right. Option (d) is therefore correct.
Option (a) is incorrect because according to the passage, the vote does count. Only it counts very little.
So the utilitarian perspective is considered here.
Option (b) is incorrect because the passage is not talking about the dispensability of the vote. The
passage says that each vote counts.
Option (c) is incorrect because how right to vote is earned is not discussed here.

7: (a)
Suppose that the total amount involved in this game is Rs. x.
Ram has 7x/18 in the beginning and 6x/15 in the end. Thus he won something.
Shyam has 6x/18 in the beginning and 5x/15 in the end. So he neither gains nor loses.
Hence it is Ghanshyam who lost something.
So, (5x/18) – (4x/15) = 90
Or x = 8100
So Ghanshyam started with Rs (5/18) 8100 = Rs 2250

8: (d)
Expenditure=10 (number of family members)2
So E1=10(x)2
And E2=10(x-1)2
Now, E1-E2 = 50
Or 10(x2-(x-1)2) = 50
Or x2-(x2+1-2x) = 5
Or 2x-1 = 5
Or x = 3

9: (b)
Let the densities of E1, E2& E3 be 9k, 7k & 5k respectively,
Then, 9k=27
Or k=3.
So the density of E3 = 5k = 15 gm/cc.
Now, the weight of E3 in 675 kg of mixture
= (4/(6+5+4))×675
= (4/15) ×675
= 180 kg.
Since, Volume = Weight/Density
So the Volume of E3 = 180kg/15gm/cc = 180 x 1000 gm/15gm/cc =12000 cc =12 litre.
Hence the cost of 12 litre E3 ethanol = 12×60= Rs 720.

10: (c)
Let p, n and r be the price of the necklace, number of pearls and radius of a pearl respectively.
So, p⍺n√r
or p = kn√r (k=constant)
Now, 300 = k×200 ×√4
or k = 3/4.
Again
540 = (3/4)×180 ×√r
or r = 16 cm

11: (b)
Frequency of steps of X, Y and Z, X1: Y1: Z1 = 5:6:7
Let X1 = 5c, Y1 = 6c and Z1 = 7c (c is a constant)
In terms of size of step, 4X2 = 5Y2 = 6Z2 = k (k is a constant)
So, X2 = k/4; Y2 = k/5 and Z2 = k/6.
Since, Speed = Distance Frequency = Step size Frequency
So the speeds of X, Y and Z are:
X3 = (5/4) ck; Y3 = (6/5) ck and Z3 = (7/6) ck.
So the ratio of speeds of X, Y and Z = (5/4) : (6/5) : (7/6)
= (5/4)×60 : (6/5) ×60 : (7/6) ×60
(LCM of 4, 5 and 6 = 60)
= 75:72:70

12: (c)
43333×56666
= 26666×56666
= (2×5)6666
= 106666
Hence the number of digits will be 6667 (6666 zeroes and 1 one).

13: (a)
First, we calculate the total number of days from 1st July to 21 December.
Days left in July = 31-1 = 30; August= 31; September= 30; October= 31; November= 30; December= 21.
So, the total days= 30 + 31 + 30 + 31+ 30 +21 = 173.
Odd days in 173 days = 173/7 = 5 (Remainder).
So, subtract 5 days from the given day of 21st December, because we are going backward from
December to July.
So, 1st July will be Friday -5 days, i.e. Sunday.

14: (d)
5 days earlier to Monday, i.e. Monday – 5 = Wednesday.
So, the sister’s marriage day was Wednesday.
Now, extra days in 136 days (apart from multiple of 7) = 136/7= 3 (Remainder).
So, the day Roy will travel to Allahabad = Wednesday + 3 = Saturday

Explanation for Questions 15 to 19:

Let n= length of an edge of the bigger cube/ length of an edge of the smaller cube
Then, n3 = 125
So, n = 5
Number of cubes having 3 faces coloured = 8 (constant).
Number of cubes having 2 faces coloured = 12 (n-2) = 12×(5-2)=12×3=36
Number of cubes having 1 face coloured = 6(n-2)2 =6×32 = 54.
Number of cubes having no face coloured= (n-2)3 = 33 = 27.

15: (b)

16: (a)
The number of smaller cubes that have at most 1 face coloured = Number of cubes having no face
coloured + Number of cubes having 1 face coloured
= 27 + 54 = 81

3 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS

17: (c)
The number of smaller cubes that have at most 2 faces coloured = Number of cubes having no face
coloured + Number of cubes having 1 face coloured + Number of cubes having 2 faces coloured
= 27 + 54 + 36 = 117

18: (d)
The number of smaller cubes that have at most 3 faces coloured = Number of cubes having no face
coloured + Number of cubes having 1 face coloured + Number of cubes having 2 faces coloured +
Number of cubes having 3 faces coloured = 27 + 54 + 36 + 8 = 125

19: (b)
n = length of an edge of the bigger cube/length of an edge of the smaller cube
So, Length of an edge of the bigger cube = n× (length of an edge of the smaller cube) = 5×10 = 50 cm.

20: (b)
Statement 1 is incorrect because it is not clear from the passage if the utility of female education is
uncertain.
Statement 2 is incorrect because nowhere female education is shown contradictory to female progress.
Statement 3 is correct because the passage clearly says that the advances in female education is yet to
translate into greater equity in employment, politics and social relations.

21: (c)
The passage discusses how women, minority and transgender are more susceptible to violence. Thus,
Option (c) is the correct answer.
Option (a) and Option (b) are incorrect because the passage is not discussing merely the issue of women
or transgender. It is talking about racism as well.
Option (d) is incorrect because though violence is condemned here, the main issue is race and gender
based discrimination.

22: (b)
Statement 1 is incorrect because due to regionalism, the loyalty of people is drifting down from national
capitals to provinces and cities.
Statement 2 is correct because according to the passage, due to shrinking authority of central
government regionalism in various forms is emerging.

23: (d)
The passage discusses how women are most vulnerable during two periods of pregnancy and old age.
Therefore, the keynote which seems to be emerging is that the vulnerabilities of old and pregnant
women should be addressed. Thus, Option (d) is the correct answer.
Option (a) is incorrect because the passage is more specific about pregnant and old women and not
about women in general. Option (b) is also incorrect due to the same reason.
Option (c) is incorrect because here old women are not compared with pregnant women.

24: (a)
The passage discusses how widows are living ignored and ostracized life. Thus, Option (a) is the correct
answer.
Option (b) is incorrect because according to the passage, the widows from upper caste are living even
more miserable life. Option (c) is incorrect because in the passage Indian widows are not compared with
those of other developing nations.
Option (d) is incorrect because the passage is advocating a better life for the widows.

25: (a)
The ratio of all the five elements may be found by multiplying the first numbers of each ratio for A,
multiplying the second number of first ratio and the first number of all the rest of the ratios for B and so
on. It has been shown below:
A B C D E
3 4 4 4 4
3 3 2 2 2
4 4 4 5 5
6 6 6 6 7
So, A: B : C : D : E = 3×3×4×6 : 4×3×4×6 : 4×2×4×6 : 4×2×5×6 : 4×2×5×7
Hence, A:E= 3×3×4×6 : 4×2×5×7 = 27:35

26: (d)
Let the required number be x.
So, (5-x) : (9-x) = (9-x) : (17-x)
or 5-x/9-x = 9-x/17-x
or (9-x)2 = (5-x) (17-x)
or x=1

27: (b)
Suppose that the object P will cost 60 paise more than the object Q after x years. Then,
(630 + 60x) – (945 + 22.5x) = 60
Or 37.5x = 375
Or x = 10.
Hence, the object P will cost 60 paise more than the object Q, 10 years after 2011 i.e. in the year 2021.

28: (d)
The last digit of 52^52^52 is same as 2^52^52.
But 2^52^52 = 2^52×52×52……….52 times
= 2^4×13× (52×52×……..51 times)
= 24n
Where n= 13× (52×52×……..51 times)
Again 24n= 16n
➱unit digit is 6, for every n∈N (N = natural number).
Hence, the required unit digit = 6.

29: (a)
Average = 200+350+400+474+550+600/6 = 2574/6 = 429

30: (d)
Required ratio = 350/474 = 0.738

31: (d)
Given that Jan 1, 2016 was a Friday.
Number of odd days in the period from 2016 to end of 2019 = 3 normal years + 1 leap year = 3 × 1 + 1 × 2
=5
(note that we have taken the complete year 2016 because the period in 2016 is from 01-01-2016 to 31-
12-2016, which is the whole year 2016. Then the complete years 2017, 2018, 2019 are also involved.
Hence, Jan 1, 2020 = Friday + 5 odd days = Wednesday.

5 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS

Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.
32: (b)
50 days makes 7 complete weeks and 1 extra day.
So, the project will be completed one day after Monday, i.e. by Tuesday.
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

33: (b)
Time taken by the program to process all the inputs = x weeks = 7x days
Time taken by the program to compile the results = x days.
Total time taken by the program to give the final result = 7x + x = 8x days.
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

34: (d)
Clearly, 2016 was a leap year. So, the calendar can be used again only in a leap year.
Between any two leap years, there are 5 odd days (3 odd days for the 3 non leap year and 2 odd days for
one leap year).
After 7 leap years, the number of odd days will be 7 × 5 = 35 days = 0 as 35 is completely divisible by 7.
Thus, the calendar will repeat after 7 leap years = 7 × 4 = 28 years
So, 2016 + 28 = 2044
Note: Calendar of a leap year always repeats after 28 years, while that of an ordinary year after 6 or 11
years.
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.

35: (d)
Let the age of Rajesh 7 years ago be ‘a’ years.
Then, the age of Rahul 7 years ago = 2ax years
And the age of Rajat 7 years ago = 2ax2
Age of Rajat at present = 2ax2+ 7 which is also equivalent to 31 as given in the question.
So, 2ax2+ 7 = 31
Or ax2= 12
Thus, the possible values of x are 1 and 2. If x is 1 then a = 12 and if x is 2 then a = 3. So, ax = 12 or 6.
Age of Rahul now = 2ax + 7 = 19 or 31.
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.

36: (c)
Let the number of members in the association = X.
Also, contribution of each member = Rs. X.
President’s contribution was 10 more than that of the other members.
So, total collection of funds from all the members = X2 + 10 which is equivalent to 635 as given in the
question.
So, X2 + 10 = 635
Clearly, X =25 satisfies the above equation.
Thus, the number of members in the group excluding the president = 24.
Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.

37: (d)
Let the number of balls and boxes with the boy be x and y respectively.
If the boy fills in all the boxes with one ball each, he is left with one ball, i.e. the number of balls is one
more than the number of boxes.
So, x = y + 1 ......................... (1)
If the boy fills two balls in one box, one box is left empty.
Accordingly we have, 2(y-1) = x .........................(2)
6 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS
Substituting value of x from (1) in (2) we get,
2y – 2 = y +1
So, y =3
And x = y + 1 = 4.
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.
Note: We can also solve this question using the various options and checking for the option that satisfies
the given conditions.

38: (b)
The passage discusses elderly women help in the child health and care. Moreover, it also says that
children’s rights are advanced by creating programs which also include elderly women. Thus, Option (b)
is the correct answer.
Option (d) is incorrect because it says the just opposite. Option (a) is incorrect because the passage is
not about prioritizing one over other. It is about the direct relationship which exist between child health
and elderly care.
Option (c) is incorrect the passage is about child’s progress and not nation’s progress.

39: (c)
Option (a) is incorrect because based on one incident, we cannot generalise that one war will definitely
lead to another.
Option (b) is incorrect because the passage does not say so, in fact it argues the contrary.
Option (d) is incorrect because the passage is not mentioning the prime reasons behind wars, and that
too of most wars.
The passage discusses how the unfair treaty of Versailles led to the second world war. “Saddled with war
guilt and heavy reparations and denied entrance into the League of Nations, Germany felt tricked…”.
Thus, Option (c) is the correct answer.

40: (a)
The passage discusses how the arguments of European settlers may be wrong that they obtained the
land from local people through legitimate means. Thus, Option (a) is the correct answer.
Other options are beyond the scope of the passage in some way.
Option (b) is incorrect because the passage is not making any recommendation regarding restoring the
rights back.
Option (c) is incorrect because again the passage does not make any recommendation of compensating
the local people.
Option (d) is incorrect because the whole passage is digging back into the history. So this is very much
relevant.

41: (c)
Option (a) is incorrect because we can’t say that the weapons are equitably distributed or not.
Option (b) is incorrect because the passage is not making any recommendation.
Option (d) is incorrect because the negative impacts of these weapons are not discussed here.
The passage discusses how weapons are being acquired by the poorer nation. Thus, the author is
suggesting that the weapons are getting proliferated. Therefore, Option (c) is the correct answer.

42: (a)
The passage discusses how climate change is leading to draughts, changing rainfall. All these are
impacting biodiversity. Thus, the passage relates to adverse consequences of climate change. Thus,
Option (a) is the correct answer.
Option (b) is incorrect because the nature of climate is not unpredictable. Climate change is making it
unpredictable.
Option (c) is incorrect because floods and draughts are not the central theme of the passage. The main
theme is climate change.

7 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS

Option (d) is incorrect because though climate change is leading to biodiversity loss, here other various
causes of biodiversity loss is not discussed.
43: (d)
Option (a) is incorrect because the passage is not comparing the welfare of women vis-à-vis that of
children.
Option (b) is incorrect because the passage is not about population control.
Option (c) is incorrect because although women education may facilitate child education but it being a
“prerequisite” is not suggested.
The passage discusses how tackling women issues benefits children and the society. Thus, the passage
seems to suggest that women welfare can lead to the welfare of the society. Thus, Option (d) is the
correct answer.

44: (b)
The passage discusses how collective rights are more suited to the tribal communities. Thus, Option (c) is
the correct answer.
Option (a) is incorrect because the passage is not about the tribal communities of India.
Option (b) is incorrect because though the collective rights is more useful, we can’t say from the passage
if it is prerequisite to their survival or not.
Option (d) is incorrect because capitalism is not discussed here.

45: (b)
Total number of students = 90
Number of boys in the class = (1/3) × 90 = 30.
Number of girls in the class = (2/3) × 90 = 60.
Rank of Kamal = 19.
Number of students ahead of Kamal = 18
Number of girls ahead of Kamal = 9.
So, number of boys ahead of Kamal = 18 – 9 = 9.
Hence, number of boys ranked after Kamal = 30 – 1 – 9 = 20.
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

46: (c)
Let the two numbers be a and b respectively.
As we know that the sum of the two numbers is 109
So, a + b = 109 ...............(1)
Also, one fifth of a number is five more than one seventh of another number
So, a/5 = b/7 + 5. ...............(2)
As second number is a perfect square and also divisible by 7.
So, b should be equal to 49.
And a = 109 – 49 = 60.
Now, we examine all the given options:
Option (a): False  Difference of the two numbers is 11. (Odd)
Option (b): False  HCF (60, 49) =1.
Option (c): True  Difference of two numbers is 11 (prime).
Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.

47: (b)
Let the two numbers be (x –1) and x respectively.
According to the question we have,
x3 – (x-1)3 = (x-1)3 – 3
or x3 + 3 = 2(x-1)3
By hit and trial it can be determined that the equation satisfies for x = 5.
Smaller number = 5 – 1 = 4
8 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS
Thus, sum of two numbers = 9.
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
48: (a)
Let the amounts received the two sons be Rs. x and (60 –x) respectively.
According to the question,
1/x + 1/(60-x) = 3/25
Or 25 × 60 = 3x (60- x)
Or 25 × 20 = x (60-x)
Or 50 × 10 = x(60-x)
This equation satisfies for the values 50 and 10.
So, the son who got higher amount received Rs. 50.
Hence, option (a) is the correct answer.

49: (a)
The longest length that can be used to measure these lengths is the HCF of the given lengths.
HCF (12, 6, 10) = 2 m
Hence, option (a) is the correct answer.

50: (d)
Total number of questions in Maths section = 20.
Total number of questions in other sections = 40 – 20 = 20.
Let the time spent on each question in other section, i.e. English and General Science = t.
Time spent on each question from Maths section = 2t.
Total time given = 60 min.
So, 20 × (t + 2t) = 60
On solving we get, t = 1 min.
Thus, total time spent in Maths section = 20 × 2 × 1 = 40 minutes
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.

51: (b)
Ratio of work done by a child, a woman and a man = 2:3:4
To get the ratio of work done by 10 men, 20 women and 30 children, the ratio of work done by one man,
one woman and one child needs to be multiplied by the number of men, women and children
respectively.
Ratio of work done by 30 children, 20 women and 10 men = (2 × 30) : (3 × 20) : (4 × 10) = 60:60:40 =
3:3:2
Daily wage = Rs. 1600.
So, share of 10 men = 1600 × 2/8 = Rs. 400
Share of one man = 1/10 × 400 = Rs. 40
Similarly, share of 20 women = 1600 × 3/8 = Rs. 600
Share of one woman = 1/20 × 600 = Rs. 30
Wage of one man and two women for 2 days = [40 + (30 × 2)] × 2 = Rs. 200.
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

52: (d)
Concentration of salt in jar A = 20 gm salt per 180 ml water = 1 gm salt per 9 ml water.
Concentration of salt in jar B = 40 gm salt per 280 ml water = 1 gm salt per 7 ml water.
Concentration of salt in jar C = 20 gm salt per 100 ml water = 1 gm salt per 5 ml water.
Clearly, concentration of salt in jar C is highest and concentration of salt in jar A is lowest.
Now, we can examine all the given options one by one.
Solution in Jar A has the least concentration of salt. Thus, option (a) is false.
Solution in Jar C has the highest concentration of salt. Thus, option (b) is false.
9 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS
Solution in Jar B has medium concentration of salt. Thus, option (c) is false.
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.
53: (d)
Total number of students in a school = 560
Ratio of number of boys to that of girls = 15 : 13.
Number of boys in school = 560 × 15/28 = 300
It is known that 80% of the boys have scholarship.
So, number of boys not having scholarship = 20% of 300 = 0.2 × 300 = 60.
Number of girls in the school = 560 × 13/28 = 260.
Also, 50% of the girls have scholarship.
Number of girls not having scholarship = 50% of 260 = 0.5 × 260 = 130
Ratio of number of boys not having scholarship to the number of girls not having scholarship = 60:130 =
6:13
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.

54: (c)
Let the ages of Radha and Krishna be 7x and 8x respectively.
It is known that the difference between the present age of Radha and the age of Krishna 2 years back is
2.
So, (8x – 2) – 7x = 2
Or x - 2 = 2
Or x = 4
Sum of present ages of Radha and Krishna = 7x + 8x = 15x = 15 × 4 = 60 years.
Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.

55: (c)
Statement 1 is correct because the passage clearly shows how hypergamy makes boy a more valued
object. Thus, there is lowering of status of women.
Statement 2 is incorrect because caste system is not mentioned here. This statement is beyond the
scope of the passage.
Statement 3 is correct because the passage shows that the net result of hypergamy is dowry.
Therefore, Option (c) is the correct answer.

56: (c)
Option (a) is incorrect because sex education is not discussed here.
Option (b) is incorrect because right of freedom of expression is not compared here with the decency in
the society.
Option (d) is incorrect because judiciary is not compared here with executive and legislative.
The passage discusses that indecent material should be kept away from children but without infringing
on the free expression rights of everyone else. Censorship is not suggested and following the court's’
guidance and methods — like filtering software are recommended. Therefore, Option (c) is the correct
answer.

57: (c)
Statement 1 is incorrect because the passage clearly says that women are more vulnerable. Thus, the
effects are not equal on all the sections.
Statement 2 is incorrect because the passage is not about the role of women but the implications on
women.

10 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS

Statement 3 is correct because the passage clearly women are most vulnerable. Moreover, it also says
that. Moreover, the passage is more about poor women who are in agriculture, who are deprived and
poor.
Therefore, Option (c) is the correct answer.
58: (c)
The passage discusses how the disabled are not sad or depressed. They have a good quality. Thus, the
passage is asking us to look at them positively. Therefore, Option (c) is the correct answer.
Option (a) is incorrect because the passage is not talking about their integration in the mainstream.
Option (b) is incorrect because the psychology and behaviour is not the essential discussion. It is just
used here to convey the message that we should positive about the disabled.
Option (d) is incorrect because the passage is more about our orientation towards the disabled. The
welfare part is not covered here in detail.

59: (c)
Option (a) is incorrect because trees don’t cause heat island effect. Option (b) is incorrect because the
passage does not make any specific reference to coastal and island cities.
Option (d) is also incorrect because role of ACs in countering heat island cannot be inferred from the
passage.
The passage explains how heat island phenomena is increasing the use of AC. This is causing more
carbon emissions. Here, it is implicit that this is due to increasing power consumption. Thus, Option (c)
can be inferred from the above passage.

60: (d)
The passage explains how people living close to forest margins are prone to zoonotic infections if the
forest are fragmented or deforested. Thus, the statement is arguing for stopping deforestation and
forest fragmentation. Therefore, Option (d) is the correct answer.
Option (a) is incorrect because the passage is not talking about “banning” or even “forest dwellers”
specifically. Option (b) is incorrect because there is no mention of medical research in the passage.
Option (c) is incorrect because according to the passage, deforestation and not the animals is the cause
of zoonotic infections.

61: (d)
Assumption in statement 1 is wrong because the passage is about the listening ability of candidates and
not the ability of the interviewers to make the candidates listen to them.
Assumption in statement 2 is also incorrect because there is no need of any comparison between the
technical skills and the social skill of the candidates to prove any part of the passage.

62: (d)
Let the coins with A, B and C after they have donated be 41x, 34x and 46x respectively.
Total coins with A before donation = 41x + 40
Total coins with B before donation = 34x + 20
Total coins with C before donation = 46x + 30.
Total coins with the father = 4325
So, 41x + 40 + 34x + 20 + 46x + 30 = 4325
Or 121x = 4235
Or x = 35.
Coins with A now = 41x = 1435
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.

63: (d)
There is no information regarding the exact amount of savings for either of the friend. So, no conclusion
can be drawn from the given data.
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.

64: (a)
Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be 8x and 5x respectively.
Perimeter = 2(8x + 5x) = 26x
It is given that perimeter is equal to 208 cm.
So, 26x = 208.
or x = 8
Breadth of rectangle = 5x = 5 × 8 = 40 cm.
Side of square = 40% less than breadth of rectangle
= 40 – (40% of 40)
= 40 – 16 = 24 cm.
So, Perimeter of square = 24 × 4 = 96 cm.
Ratio of perimeter of rectangle to the perimeter of square = 208:96 = 13:6
Hence, option (a) is the correct answer.

65: (c)
Comparing first and third figure:
We will start from the common alphabet, i.e. D and apply the clockwise rule. The opposite faces
obtained are:
S – U; M – Y; D – W
Hence, the required missing face can have either M or Y on it. Only Y is given in the options.
Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.

Explanation 66 to 68:
From statement 5 and 1, it is clear that A is on the top face and B is on face opposite to A. Therefore, B is
on the bottom face.

Statement 2 is redundant/useless, as we already know that A and B are opposite to each other and
hence all the remaining faces are bound to be between A and B. C can be on any of the remaining four
faces. Let us keep the cube such that C is on the front face.
From statement 3, D is on the face opposite to C. So, D has to be on the back face. It also implies that the
opposite faces are:
A – B; C – D; E – F
Statement 4 is also redundant as we already know that C and D are opposite faces and hence C and E are
bound to be on adjacent faces. So, E can be on the left or right faces. F has to be on the face opposite to
E.
Therefore, two possibilities are there. Both the possibilities are shown in the two pictures below.

66: (c)
There are two possible cubes which satisfy the given criteria.
Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.

67: (d)
A, C and F appear on adjacent faces on both the possible solutions.
Hence, option (d) is the correct answer.
68: (c)
B and C are adjacent faces on both the solution cubes.
Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.

69: (c)
The number of zeros at the end of (5!)5! =120
(∵ 5! = 120 and thus 120120 will give 120 zeros)
Number of zeros at the end of (10!)10!, (50!)50!and (100!)100!will be greater than 120.
Now since the number of zeros at the end of the whole expression will depend on the number which has
least number of zeros at the end of the number among the other given numbers. So, the number of
zeros at the end of the given expression is 120.

70: (a)
(a) Both x and y have factors other than 1 and itself, so both (x and y) are composite numbers.
(b) None of the x or y is prime; also the difference between the two numbers (x and y) is not 2. Hence,
they are not twin primes.
(c) HCF (of x and y) = 17! 1. Hence, they are not co-primes.
(d) Statement in option (b) is not correct, so this option (d) is not correct.

71: (b)
Method I:
(x+ y+ z)3 = x3+ y3+ z3 + 3(x+ y) (y+ z) (z+ x)
Or 183 = 792 + 3(x + y) (y + z) (z + x)
(x + y) (y + z) (z + x) = 1680, which is an even number.
Method II:
By hit & trial method, x = 4, y = 6 and z = 8 satisfies the given relations, which yields:
(x + y) (y + z) (z + x) = 1680, which is an even number.

72: (b)
Let us analyse all the options one by one:
Option (a): Production of Car A over 3 years = 20, 25 and 25 which is not a consistent trend.
Option (b): Production of Car B over 3 years = 25, 20, 15 which is a continuous decline.
Option(c): Production of Car C over 3 years = 30, 30, 10 which is not a consistent trend.
Option (d): Production of Car D over 3 years = 20, 30, 15 which is not a consistent trend.
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

73: (c)
Total cars manufactured in 3 years= (20 + 25 + 30 + 20 + 25) + (25 + 20 + 30 + 30 + 25) + (25 + 15 + 10 +
15 + 10)
= 120 + 130 + 75 = 325
Total cars of model A manufactured in 3 years = 20 + 25 + 25 = 70
Required ratio = 70 : 325 = 14 : 65
Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.
74: (a)
Statement 1 is correct because according to the passage by defeating the opponent one may lose his
good will. This can be true only if assume that people generally don’t like to be defeated in arguments.
Statement 2 is incorrect because the passage does not discuss about the mistakes of human beings.
Hence it is not relevant here.

75: (a)
The theme of passage is that any particular country should not act unilaterally without the consent of
UN. Thus, the passage is emphasizing on the democratic values and consensus. Thus, Option (a) is the
correct answer.
13 www.visionias.in ©Vision IAS
Option (b) is incorrect because according to the passage, merely taking responsibility is not enough.
Consensus is equally important.
Option (c) and Option (d) are incorrect because though human rights violation is discussed here, it is not
the most important theme. The main point in the passage is that powerful countries should not act in a
unilateral manner.
76: (a)
The passage discusses how democracy promotes liberty compared to socialism. Thus, it suggests that
there is more freedom in democratic societies. Therefore, Option (a) is the correct answer.
Option (b) is incorrect because private and public interest are not discussed here. Option (c) is incorrect
because the passage is not specific to India.
Option (d) is incorrect because it is not clear from the passage that they can coexist or not.

77: (b)
The passage discusses how due to various problems emanating from past trajectory will pose problems
in future despite growth performance since 1980’s. Thus the correct answer is (b)
Option (a) is incorrect as the passage mentions that India has seen robust growth since 1980 and not
since independence.
Option (c) is incorrect as the passage is not comparing democracies with non-democracies.
Option (d) is incorrect because though this statement is discussed in passage, it does not best sums up
the passage.

78: (c)
The passage explains how most of us are not objective and are biased depending on how we are
conditioned. This is wrong and clearheaded people see things differently. Thus, option (c) is the correct
answer.
Option (a) is incorrect because though it can be inferred that they are different, this is not the most
crucial inference. The passage is mostly about looking things in an unbiased manner.
Option (b) is incorrect as the last line mentions that some people do see things in a different objective
manner.
Option (d) is not correct as the passage is not blaming everyone.
79: (a)
The passage discusses why women are more skilful in reading non-verbal skills and it gives scientific
reasoning for that. Thus (a) is the correct answer.
Option (b) is incorrect. Though women can decipher nonverbal signals more easily, this does not imply
that passages says that one should not lie to them. We can only infer that those lies will be caught more
easily.
Option (c) is incorrect because the passage is discussing only one aspect of brain and this can’t be
generalised for the whole brain.
Option (d) is incorrect as the passage clearly indicates that non-verbal communication abilities of women
are superior.
80: (c)
The passage emphasises in order to read correctly body language, it should not be done in isolation of
other gestures and circumstances. For example, in order to understand the meaning of a word in English,
it should read in the context of the sentence. Thus, the best inference is option (c).
Option (a) is incorrect as body language and English language are used for analogy. The understanding of
English as a prerequisite for understanding body-language is not said here.
Option (b) is incorrect as the passage does not discuss about difficulty in learning to read body language.
Option (d) is incorrect as the passage mentions about reading English language but this is not the most
logical inference. The passage is mostly related to reading body language.
