COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course explains the mechanics of a proper exercise and diet program through lecture
and exercise activities. Various forms of exercise will be presented for trial by each
student to develop a personal fitness prescription.

Required Materials and Equipment


The Technology Requirements for this course include access and usage of a
current operating system, Mac or PC: internet connection and a current internet browser
such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari (Internet Explorer sometimes has issues
supporting Student Learning Managament systems like Canvas); software, Microsoft
Office, allowing you to view power points, type papers; fairly high speed internet server
for viewing videos.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (SLOs)


1. Evaluate individual fitness levels, identifying personal fitness needs and ways to
improve fitness levels.
2. Identify specific training programs to improve fitness levels and incorporate them
into daily activities.
3. Evaluate present Cardiovascular disease risk factors to implement lifestyle
change.
4. Analyze current nutrition practices to identify macro-nutrient, micro-nutrient and
caloric intake.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Identify personal fitness needs through a testing program to evaluate physical
fitness status.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concept of physical fitness,
skill performance, body mechanics, posture, obesity, stress, diet, nutrition and the
value of exercise.
3. Formulate a personal fitness prescription.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
a. Purchase and receive text and online access code listed above in the Required
Textbook and Materials.
b. Attendance: Login to class regularly during the week, online participation and
assignment submission are classified as your attendance.

ATTENDANCE/DROP POLICY
Students are expected to participate in class regularly. Online participation and
assignment submission are classified as your attendance. All students are required to
participate in the Check in Discussion Forum by the due date of Day 3 of class. If no
participation or communication is attempted before Day 7 of class, you will be dropped
from this course. If two assignments/quizzes/exams are missed in a row, you will be
dropped from this course. Complete all the assignments by the due dates within the first
week of class, or you may be dropped from this course. Please make an effort to contact
the instructor if questions.
It is also your responsibility to officially withdrawal from this class, if necessary by the
deadline stated in the schedule of classes.
* The last date to drop this course with no grade is: 03/01/2020
* The last date to Withdrawal with a “W” grade from this course is: 04/29/2020
IMPORTANT: If you wish to withdrawal from this course and do not do so by the date
listed above or in the schedule of courses, you will receive a regular grade in this course
(an F if your work is incomplete or you stop attending).

ASSIGNMENTS/LATE WORK POLICY


All assignments must be presented on the due dates as stated in this document or as announced in
class. Reading assignments or due dates for written assignments may be changed with notice
from the instructor. No late work will be accepted, nor missed exams/quizzes made up unless
previous arrangements have been made with the instructor (or the instructor determines the
reason for the late work/missed exam warrants the opportunity to make up the assignment).
Penalties may be applied to the late work and will be determined by the instructor (such
as half points given for late work). It is your responsibility to complete
readings/assignments to stay on course for this class.

ACADEMIC HONESTY
It is expected that all work submitted for grading is original, not copied from others, and that the
work being graded is indeed done by the student who is receiving the grade. Cheating and
plagiarism are serious violations of the student code. Cheating or plagiarizing will result in a zero
on the assignment or test and may result in suspension, failure in the course, and/or other
disciplinary action taken by the College. All incidents of cheating or plagiarizing are reported to
the Dean of Students.

REPEATING COURSE
It is important that you succeed in this course. If you get a D, F, NC or W grade in this course,
you may repeat it only once. If you receive a D, F, NC or W in this course twice, you will need to
take this course at another college or file a petition (Request for Exceptional Course Repeat) with
the Counseling Office.
