new 02:40 international standard the occupational 02:42 health and safety management standard so 02:45 today we'll be walking through a proline 02:56 Katie okay it's just a little delay here 02:58 so what we're going to cover today is 03:00 we're going to go over an introduction 03:01 of the standard again hooray it's 03:04 published it was published on March 12th 03:07 just last month we'll go over briefly 03:09 the benefits the differences between OSS 03:13 18001 and ISO 45,000 one patient health 03:17 and safety I'll be highlighting what the 03:21 differences are and the emphasis in the 03:23 new international standard I'll talk to 03:26 you about them timing for migration or 03:28 transition to the new standard and what 03:30 you can do to plan and then ask for any 03:32 questions you might have 03:37 there's a slight delay in getting these 03:41 there we go so as all of you may be 03:46 aware that we've had a number of 03:48 webinars associated with the 03:49 occupational health and safety 03:50 management system 45000 one and it's 03:54 been a long journey but it's well worth 03:56 it I'm real excited about the new 03:57 standard in and so we finally are here 03:59 at the International publish standard 04:02 and so while that's the end of the 04:04 review cycle of changing from the OSA 04:07 standard to the international standard 04:09 for occupational health and safety it 04:11 actually is just the beginning of our 04:14 journey to becoming certified for 04:17 helping all of you become certified to 04:19 the new standard 04:26 many of you may have already been 04:29 experienced the transition because you 04:32 may be registered to either Quality 04:34 Management System 9001 or the 04:36 Environmental Management System 14001 04:39 and those standards are currently going 04:41 through a an upgrade or transition to 04:45 the newly published standard that was 04:47 published in 2015 and that is ending in 04:52 September this year September 14 to 2018 04:56 but just when new things are getting 04:59 exciting we're going to also start and 05:00 kick off the new migration to the 05:02 occupational health and safety and there 05:04 will be a three year migration period 05:05 which started at the day of the first 05:07 official date of publication which was 05:10 March 12 2018 and everybody who is 05:13 currently registered to OHSAS 18001 will 05:17 have a three-year time period and all 05:19 certificates to 18001 will be expiring 05:22 on March 11th 2021 there's a polling 05:36 question here I would like to add get a 05:38 feel as far as for the participants here 05:40 if you could check all of these 05:42 standards that you are currently 05:44 registered to I would appreciate that so 05:46 I have a feel as far as how many of you 05:48 might just be not registered or at all 05:52 or perhaps registered to more than one 05:56 okay so I see that quite a few of you 05:58 obviously are are registered to the 06:02 OHSAS 18001 and a number other of you 06:05 are registered to others so that's great 06:07 and then some that are currently 06:09 registered so this is a great 06:11 opportunity to be able to take a look at 06:13 and see where we're going to be going 06:15 and what's it what's on the horizon with 06:18 this new standard 06:23 again I apologize for the delay in the 06:25 slides so I wanted to again remind 06:29 everybody why occupational health and 06:31 safety is important it's important to 06:34 obviously the employees it's important 06:36 to employers it's important to the 06:38 family of the workers and it's important 06:40 to the community and it's really 06:43 unfortunate that every year over three 06:45 hundred and seventy million injuries or 06:48 incidents take place on the job with 06:50 almost with over 278 million people 06:53 dying that's a lot and that equivalent 06:55 equivalent is equivalent to about 15 a 06:58 worker dies room or is injured every 15 07:03 seconds which is really a sad statistic 07:06 but thankfully there's people like you 07:08 and organizations like you don't want to 07:10 make a difference and I'm confident that 07:12 the new international standard official 07:15 health and safety standard will help you 07:16 in your organization protect the health 07:19 and safety of your employees there are a 07:28 number of benefits associated with forty 07:31 five thousand one occupational health 07:32 and safety and primarily it will help 07:36 your organization identify those 07:38 occupational health and safety risks as 07:40 well as opportunities so that you can 07:43 enhance the quality of the work 07:47 environment for the workers who are 07:50 actually in your workplace or those are 07:52 along the supply chain via the 07:55 contractor subcontractor and procurement 07:57 processes you will also have an 07:59 opportunity to become further engage 08:02 with both internal and external 08:03 interested parties and continue to have 08:07 an enhanced role for leadership employee 08:10 involvement in improving your corporate 08:13 culture and studies have shown that 08:16 organizations that do participate and 08:18 have a strong culture of occupational 08:20 health and safety also save money 08:24 both near-term and long-term in a 08:28 variety of matters whether it be with a 08:33 injury on Labor and Industry 08:37 playing planes or insurance rates wow 08:48 this is so slow today I really apologize 08:50 so there are if you look at the 08:53 occupational health and safety on the 08:55 right hand side there's the circles and 08:57 that again it shows some of the benefits 08:59 there's both tangible and intangible 09:00 benefits we talked a little bit about 09:03 some of economic savings as far as 09:05 reduced rates associated with your 09:08 insurance and reduce loss phase or 09:13 injury costs associated with protecting 09:15 your employees you also have the benefit 09:18 of your protecting your brand and 09:20 reputation because there are consumer 09:22 expectations that organizations whether 09:25 they it's through the supply chain or 09:27 the final retail product or service or 09:30 activity that you're providing they want 09:31 to be sure that it's coming from an 09:33 organization that perks at and provides 09:35 for occupation and the health and safety 09:37 of their workers and the products that 09:40 go along with it also if you or your 09:44 organization is involved in 09:46 sustainability there's three pillars of 09:48 sustainability economic environmental 09:53 and social and this Occupational Health 09:55 and Safety international standard does 09:57 clearly support the pillar for social 10:02 sustainable pillar for sustainability 10:07 this is a quick overview comparing what 10:10 how the assess 18001 is organized that 10:15 you can see that on the left-hand side 10:18 and you can see the new clauses in ISO 10:21 45,000 one on the right-hand side for 10:25 those of you who are familiar with the 10:26 new either quality management or 10:28 environmental management system the 2015 10:30 versions says ISO 45,000 one does follow 10:34 the same ten clauses so you'll be very 10:37 familiar with those clauses now for 10:39 those of you who are not familiar with 10:41 that what they what this new standard 10:44 does is it takes everything that was in 10:46 Section or Clause 4 of OSs 18,000 10:50 and it splits it up ten different 10:53 clauses in a little bit more detail and 10:55 so I will actually show you that as we 10:58 go through cause by Clause at a high 10:59 level I wanted to point out some of the 11:04 things that have changed and some of the 11:06 things that have not changed so first of 11:08 all I'm in the ISO forty five thousand 11:12 one it's no longer mandatory to have a 11:14 management representative or a manual or 11:16 to actually use the term preventive 11:18 action that does that doesn't mean that 11:20 you can't do it but it's not mandatory 11:22 and then if you also look at the two 11:25 little boxes on the right hand side it 11:27 talks about the difference between ISO 11:29 45 thousand one which is more of a 11:31 process based whereas eighteen thousand 11:34 one was more procedural based the new 11:37 standard is a lot more dynamic and it 11:39 has a lot more focus on risks and 11:40 opportunities and engaging interested 11:43 parties be internal or external and 11:45 looking at the context of your 11:47 organization and those the risk the 11:50 interested parties and context of the 11:52 organization was not part of the old 11:53 18001 now if you're familiar with either 11:56 the 9000 and 14,000 Quality Manager mint 11:59 or environmental management it's very 12:01 similar but there are some new suspect 12:03 nuances for occupational health and 12:05 safety which I will get into when we get 12:07 into those areas as far as what has 12:09 stayed the same there's a lot of the 12:13 categories that have a very similar 12:15 wording and similar titles however there 12:19 are shades of grey or blue shades of 12:21 blue here as far as there is a lot more 12:23 emphasis in different areas in the new 12:24 standard compared to the old 18000 one 12:27 standard and again the last time 18,000 12:29 windows up data was in 2007 so that's 12:32 been 11 years ago and so there's been a 12:34 lot of new information on invest 12:37 management practice that have come to 12:38 light in the profession so we're able to 12:40 incorporate that as well as you migrate 12:47 to the new international standard again 12:49 some of the primary differences you just 12:51 might want to be aware of again it is 12:53 going to the new ISO structure so the 12:55 good thing about that is if you are 12:56 looking at having it integrated with 12:59 quality management or Environmental 13:01 Management 13:02 we'll be really easy and it should be 13:03 really symptom easy if you have an 13:05 integrated policy from corporate or in 13:09 your particular organization so you can 13:11 get some credit that way if you wanted 13:12 to integrate there's a lot more emphasis 13:14 on leadership and commitment on forty 13:17 five thousand and one this occupational 13:19 health and safety not only does it have 13:22 the emphasis on leadership and 13:23 commitment but it has a lot of emphasis 13:25 associated with participation and 13:29 consultation of workers and where they 13:31 exist workers representatives which is 13:34 different than the other international 13:35 standards in the context of the 13:38 organization again they are looking at 13:41 internal and external issues that could 13:43 impact your organization and 13:44 specifically they call out how the 13:47 internal and external issues of workers 13:49 and other interested parties might be 13:51 part of that and so again there's a lot 13:54 of emphasis on the participation of 13:56 workers and their representatives where 13:59 they exist the risks and opportunities 14:02 has a lot of emphasis associated on the 14:06 occupational health and safety Western 14:08 opportunities associated with processes 14:11 change management and legal and other 14:15 requirements associated with cannot from 14:17 an occupational health and safety 14:18 standard and there is an off there is a 14:21 lot of emphasis on all of those terms 14:23 here additionally there's a lot of 14:26 emphasis with procurement and that's not 14:29 only procurement of goods and services 14:31 but also in how you contract and how you 14:33 outsource and again the emphasis is to 14:36 ensure that you're not introducing 14:38 anything into your workplace via 14:41 purchasing of products or services or 14:44 contractors or products you're 14:46 outsourcing that could have an 14:47 unintentional negative impact or hazard 14:51 associated with occupational health and 14:52 safety risks communication is a big 14:57 emphasis well that changed on its own do 15:03 you know what happened there okay okay 15:05 and so there's a lot of emphasis on 15:08 communications both internal and 15:10 external 15:11 and including workers and who might be 15:14 interested in that and that's 15:15 contractors visitors people who come to 15:17 your workplace or neighbors that they're 15:18 in the vicinity and then ensuring that 15:21 the communication is appropriate and 15:23 that it's two-way and ensure that it's 15:26 appropriate to whether it's if there's a 15:28 language the actual language it's in and 15:30 the literacy of employees etc and then 15:35 documented information is not just a 15:37 manual or paper it can be a variety of 15:40 forms it could be a video electronic etc 15:43 and there's a lot of emphasis on 15:45 performance evaluation as far as what's 15:48 going to be organ evaluated when how 15:51 it's going to be measured and calibrated 15:52 and how does that benchmark a lot of 16:05 people will have questions about the 16:06 migrate in the old standards are calling 16:09 transition but because this is a new ISO 16:11 standard the organization for 16:14 international standards that have deneva 16:15 has called this transition from eighteen 16:18 thousand one to forty five thousand and 16:20 migration because at the end of this 16:23 three year period assess occupational 16:27 health and safety eighteen thousand on 16:28 that international standards will be 16:30 sunsetted will be withdrawn so NSF is 16:34 our we're in the process of obtaining 16:35 our approval from a NAB we expect to get 16:38 our approval as an accredited bard body 16:41 and second quarter probably most likely 16:44 in May we're highly confident that we'll 16:47 go smoothly because we have a lot of 16:48 experience in this and we are real 16:51 excited to provide these services to 16:53 each of you and your organization's I 16:55 mean I just wanted to remind each of you 16:58 that as we're going through this 17:00 three-year migration period is your 17:02 organization's responsibility if you're 17:04 currently certified to 18001 you need to 17:06 maintain that certification through this 17:08 period also we will have a number of 17:11 services available for you on our web 17:13 page some of them are there now and some 17:15 will be transitioning out over the next 17:18 couple of months and they will help you 17:21 be organized and prepared so you have a 17:24 very 17:26 and simple migration period when you're 17:31 ready to when you are prepared to 17:34 Migrator have your transition otter 17:36 migration audit there's three different 17:38 choices that you have you could do it at 17:40 your routine surveillance you could do 17:42 it at the recertification time period or 17:44 you could have a special audit the 17:46 guidance that we have gotten from a 17:48 Navin from the other regular oversight 17:52 bodies indicate that for audit days 17:55 there will be a minimum of one 17:56 additional audit day to cover both 17:58 existing and new requirements now it may 18:02 be adjusted but it says only upwards not 18:05 downwards depending on the complexity or 18:09 other issues associated with EDD clay to 18:11 your organization and then in order to 18:14 have a migration audit we'll get into 18:16 that you do need to have a need to be 18:18 ensured that you're you've been in your 18:22 informs you aware you you organize 18:25 yourself around the new standard that 18:26 you've done your an internal audit to 18:29 the new standard and you've had 18:30 management review to the new standard 18:32 and then once the transmigration audit 18:36 or upgrade audit has been completed you 18:38 need to remember that you have to have 18:40 all of your any minor non-compliances 18:44 need to be reviewed and accepted and if 18:46 all majors would have to be reviewed 18:47 accepted and verified so just those are 18:50 things to bear in mind as you plan 18:52 towards your next planning towards your 18:56 migration to the new standard as I 19:05 mentioned before the migration began on 19:10 March 12 2018 and then all certificates 19:14 for 18001 will expire on March 11 2021 19:19 and if you have not if your organization 19:22 has not migrated by that point time and 19:24 you'll be restarting over at stage 1 and 19:26 stage 2 in the beginning what I'm going 19:30 to do now is I'm going to give a quick 19:31 overview of the standard itself and I 19:34 will in that I will go over it very 19:36 quickly 19:38 some of the information that's in there 19:40 I've already talked about the high level 19:42 structure so I won't repeat that in the 19:44 introduction of the standard again I 19:46 urge you to get copies of the standard 19:48 you can get it from our web page or you 19:49 can go to the ISO a website and also get 19:52 a copy of it be sure you get the forty 19:54 five thousand on 2018 a published 19:56 version you don't want to be the drab 19:58 stuff and I wanted to also say that it's 20:01 really important to take a look at not 20:02 only the body of the standard the ten 20:04 clauses look at the introduction and 20:05 also look at the annex because the annex 20:08 gives a lot of really good information 20:10 about the interpretation as far as what 20:13 the folks in Geneva the people all the 20:15 international countries that were 20:16 involved in the development of this what 20:18 their thought process was and it gives a 20:20 lot of clarification and the 20:22 introduction is particularly important 20:24 because the kind of frames the context 20:26 of the importance of this whole standard 20:28 and the success factors in fact it talks 20:31 about again that it is an organization's 20:34 responsibility to ensure that the 20:37 occupational health and safety of the 20:39 workers are protected and promoted as 20:45 part of their ongoing daily work process 20:48 and that the purpose of the occupational 20:51 health and safety management system is 20:53 to provide a framework for your 20:55 organization to identify what those 20:57 risks might be associated with 20:58 occupational health and safety and then 21:02 what actions your organization may take 21:04 to reduce the risk associated with that 21:08 an exposure of that the standard talks 21:11 about what some of the success factors 21:12 are and so the key suspects of sects 21:15 success factors associated with all 21:19 international standards but in 21:20 particular with occupational health 21:22 safety net management systems is you do 21:25 need to have commitment from top 21:26 management and the because top 21:29 management does set the stage for 21:32 establishing the culture and expectation 21:35 and leading you organization to ensure 21:37 you do have a safe and healthy work 21:39 culture so that the people who come to 21:42 work healthy go home healthy and so 21:47 there are specific roles called out in 21:49 that and the key factor is that top 21:51 management does take a 21:52 a leading role in promoting that culture 21:53 that they communicated and that they do 21:55 have ongoing consultation and 21:57 participation of workers in the 21:59 occupational health and safety program 22:02 and that there's appropriate resources 22:04 associated with it so that an 22:06 organization can identify the hazards 22:08 and control those risks and look at 22:10 those opportunities to take advantage of 22:12 that the first Clause is a this is 22:18 called scope but the scope is not the 22:20 scope of the organ of the organization 22:22 essentially the scope of international 22:23 standard and again the scope is looking 22:26 at the prevention of work-related 22:27 injuries and ill health and to help 22:30 organization proactively manage those 22:33 opportunities and risks associated 22:35 occupational health and safety the third 22:39 clause looks at terms and definitions 22:40 and I just wanted to highlight a couple 22:42 of different groupings here there are 22:44 common terms that if you had been 22:46 involved in any of the other standards 22:49 they're common to whether it's nine 22:51 thousand fourteen thousand or eighteen 22:53 thousand so the interested party is a 22:55 common term top management is a common 22:57 term documented information as examples 22:59 in forty five thousand and one ISO forty 23:03 five thousand and one there are some 23:05 terms that are specific to this standard 23:07 only worker is defined participation 23:10 consultation and it's important that you 23:14 be aware of that and it's surprisingly 23:15 enough worker wasn't actually defined in 23:18 eighteen thousand one but they do have 23:20 the definition work here that I'll go 23:21 over and then I also wanted to point out 23:24 there were some terms that were dropped 23:25 from eighteen thousand one so we've 23:28 highlighted those three there as well as 23:33 I talked about the term worker is 23:36 actually defined and I wanted to just 23:38 because it's so important to the whole 23:40 concept of occupational health and 23:42 safety is you're trying to prevent and 23:44 promote work-related health and prevent 23:48 injuries in the work environment so here 23:51 they talk about the worker is a person 23:53 performing work or work-related 23:54 activities that are under the control of 23:56 the organization and in the definition 23:59 itself it has a couple of notes that 24:00 I've included here but again these 24:02 workers a they can be temporary workers 24:05 can be volunteers so it doesn't make it 24:09 be paid or unpaid so that is a little 24:11 bit broader term that you might be used 24:13 to 24:13 and that workers can be both management 24:16 as well as non management people and 24:18 that it can extend depending on the 24:22 extent of the control of your 24:24 organization it can extend into 24:25 contractors and subcontractors who are 24:27 doing work on or for the control of your 24:32 organization so be aware of that as we 24:34 go through this and you may want to take 24:35 a look at it when you get your copy of 24:37 the standard on Clause 4 that talks 24:40 about the context of the organization 24:41 again in 18001 that was not there and so 24:46 that's part of it one of the changes and 24:50 when they talk about the context of the 24:52 organization if you look over here on 24:54 the right-hand side now excuse me at the 24:56 left hand side there's the context of 24:59 the organization include internal and 25:01 external issues and if you it's defined 25:04 in the in the standard itself and it's a 25:08 really good explanation of this in the 25:11 annex we will be launching a tool to 25:14 help you think about it's an optional 25:17 tool if you're interested that helps you 25:19 kind of think through those issues 25:20 yourself as you go through and do the 25:22 analysis of your organization again the 25:25 context is trying to get a high level 25:28 understanding of issues that are both 25:29 positive and negative that could impact 25:31 your organization and then depending on 25:35 what you've identified some of those may 25:37 become requirements or obligations if 25:40 your organization chooses that they're 25:42 relevant for your organization to manage 25:44 for risks or opportunities and and then 25:50 4.2 talks about the understanding and 25:53 needs and expectations of workers and 25:55 other interested parties if you're 25:57 familiar with 14,000 or 9,000 it doesn't 26:00 have the word workers in it and so this 26:03 clause is specifically calls out the 26:05 needs and expectations of workers but 26:07 also other interested parties and so it 26:11 would fit in it implies and actually is 26:14 stated in 26:15 that there is two-way communication that 26:17 goes along with it and that you need to 26:19 understand what their needs and 26:21 expectations are and which of those 26:22 might become requirements or obligations 26:25 to you or organization some may be 26:26 because they're required by law but so 26:28 maybe if there's a see a union contract 26:31 or it may be just some kind of 26:32 expectations or policy that your 26:34 organization puts together when you look 26:37 at potential on interested parties 26:39 internal or external it could be 26:41 suppliers it could be contractors it 26:43 could be neighbors and there's a quite 26:46 an extensive list in the back of the 26:48 standard in the annex and it's very 26:51 helpful and we have included that in 26:53 optional tools so that should help you 26:55 as well a +5 5 looks at leadership and 26:59 again worker participation so again this 27:01 talks about the expectations of your top 27:04 management in your leadership to a model 27:08 good behavior ace lay out those 27:10 expectations and have ongoing 27:12 participation in consultation with the 27:16 workers in the organization again this 27:19 is where some of the staff may have been 27:20 in 18001 but this is how to organized in 27:23 45 thousand and one again I mentioned 27:27 this earlier but again there is a lot of 27:29 emphasis in the new standard on 27:30 leadership and commitment and wild top 27:35 management can delegate some of the 27:37 responsibilities they do maintain the 27:40 accountability for occupational health 27:42 and safety so it's important if you have 27:43 not briefed your top gear in management 27:45 and do top management it's important 27:47 that you do and it will also be the 27:49 expectations that you have taught 27:50 management will participate in opening 27:52 and closing you need as well as in the 27:54 actual audit itself and so this talks 28:00 about some of the things as far as what 28:02 your organization will need to ensure 28:05 that your you can help your leadership 28:07 if you don't already do this you know 28:08 some of the things as far as being sure 28:10 things are people are communicating the 28:12 importance of occupational health and 28:13 safety you have documented evidence of 28:16 how it's being communicated whether it's 28:18 in videos whether it's an ongoing 28:21 newsletters and the daily or weekly 28:24 safety meetings every organization is 28:26 a bit different but there's a lot of 28:29 opportunities that your top management 28:31 can become involved in engage and so 28:33 this would be a great opportunity for 28:34 them to do that plus six books of the 28:37 planning again there was planning 28:39 involved in 18001 there's a lot more 28:43 emphasis again of identifying both risks 28:45 and opportunities associated with 28:47 occupational health and safety and 28:49 there's again I wanted to put the 28:52 emphasis on determining if there's legal 28:54 or other requirements associated with 28:56 occupational health and safety and so 28:59 again your organization has the focuses 29:02 to identify those risks and 29:03 opportunities and figure out how you're 29:06 going to manage those and then how 29:08 you're going to measure to see if you're 29:10 successful or not through continual 29:11 ongoing improvement hazard 29:14 identification is not all that different 29:16 than before can be the hierarchy of 29:19 controls or again the hazard 29:21 identification through different 29:23 situations whether it's regular ongoing 29:25 work whether it's change management 29:27 emergency situations etc again the 29:32 assessment of those risks and 29:33 opportunities and identifying those 29:35 there's a different method that can be 29:36 used and it is it and again it needs to 29:40 consider both day-to-day as well as 29:42 changing needs associated with your 29:44 occupational health and safety risks 29:46 clause 7 looks at the support to be sure 29:49 that there's enough resources again this 29:50 does get back to be sure your top 29:52 management is providing those resources 29:54 that you need for ensuring that you have 29:58 competent workers you will need to 30:00 define you know what competency is a 30:02 particular for your internal audit to 30:04 make sure that your internal auditors 30:05 are trained with a new standard and for 30:08 those people who have key roles 30:09 associated with it and basically that 30:11 you know people are aware as far as how 30:14 their jobs might be impacted by either 30:17 injury hazards or risk or occupational 30:21 exposure and so they know what it is and 30:23 how what the consequences are how they 30:25 can protect themselves and so that goes 30:28 quite a bit into this and the resources 30:30 as far as both ensuring that it's there 30:32 people are aware of it it 30:34 indicated and documented as you go 30:37 through this as I mentioned on the 30:43 resources they also define back in the 30:45 annex that resources are not just money 30:47 it can be many but it also is to be sure 30:50 you have the right human resources there 30:52 the right infrastructure there 30:54 appropriate equipment even affirmation 30:57 technology and communications to ensure 30:59 that you protect your workers and the 31:02 workplace from occupational health and 31:05 safety hazards Clause 8 looks at 31:15 operational controls it contains the 31:19 emergency preparedness and response just 31:21 as the old 18000 one has but it also 31:25 talks quite a bit about eliminating 31:27 hazards and reducing occupational health 31:29 and safety it here's where that 31:31 hierarchy of controls come in 31:33 identifying to be sure you have 31:35 processes in place to help manage change 31:38 and this is where the outsourcing and 31:42 procurement and contractors need is 31:46 there's emphasis here where your 31:48 organization does need to define what 31:50 controls and processes you have in place 31:52 to be sure that there's not going to be 31:53 something introduced into your workplace 31:55 that could cause harm to either the 31:58 permanent workers or vice versa 32:00 the contractors might be impacting your 32:02 work where you work or your employees 32:04 might be impacting the contractors or 32:06 new equipment coming etc a hierarchy of 32:10 controls you're probably very familiar 32:12 with this because you are hearing a been 32:14 recorded or many of you have been 32:17 certified already to occupational health 32:18 and safety but again it's elimination 32:21 avoided to begin with substitute if you 32:24 have safer chemicals with and eliminate 32:28 more hazardous chemicals but be sure 32:30 you're doing that so you don't have 32:31 other unintended impacts engineering 32:37 controls administrative controls and 32:39 last resort to be the protect personal 32:42 protective equipment 32:44 at future webinars we'll get into more 32:46 summits and examples of this as well 32:50 management of changes were important 32:52 whether that's management of change for 32:54 new products new processes or services 32:56 or even bringing in new materials to be 33:00 sure that you're not introducing 33:01 something that could have an 33:03 occupational health and safety risk to 33:06 the employees whether it be a mechanical 33:09 risk or guardian risk Inouye's risk 33:12 chemical risk so there's all kinds of 33:14 things that you can flem ability risk 33:16 there's lots of different ways that you 33:18 can introduce things we need to be sure 33:21 that it's thought through ahead of time 33:23 and that you have processes in place to 33:26 be sure that you are doing what you say 33:30 you're going to do to protect employee 33:31 health and safety on the procurement 33:34 again they talked quite a bit about 33:36 ensuring that your organization has a 33:39 process in place to ensure that you're 33:42 procuring products that are as safe and 33:44 healthy as possible that you follow 33:45 those whether it again be the raw 33:48 materials or equipment or products or 33:50 hazardous materials or substances and 33:52 then also if you're ordering equipment 33:54 you need to be sure that it's specified 33:57 to protect occupational health and 33:59 safety that like comes in April 34:01 specifications when its installed its 34:04 functions that's supposed to be and that 34:08 if there's any kind of special training 34:09 that the employees are aware of that and 34:11 been trained all of that has been worked 34:14 out before it's been put in operation so 34:15 those are the kinds of things that 34:17 you're looking after when procurement 34:18 again on contractors in particular is 34:22 important for contractors who are 34:23 working on-site that you have identified 34:26 those types of things that you have 34:27 expectations laid out for occupational 34:30 health and safety requirements 34:31 associated with contractors and that 34:34 it's documented and that you ensuring 34:36 that they're following that as well 34:38 because as you know contractors can have 34:40 the adverse impact on your workers in 34:42 the health place and vice versa so 34:45 that's what this is all about but I 34:48 probably will be having I will be having 34:50 a future some webinar about creative 34:55 tools that others have used to put in 34:56 place but again clearly 34:59 specifications or pre-qualifications of 35:01 your contractors to ensure that you're 35:04 doing some pre-screening and then during 35:06 the award and then also actually we are 35:09 performing the service so there's a lot 35:10 of things you can do associated with 35:12 that clause nine talks about performance 35:15 evaluation there was performance 35:16 evaluation in eighteen thousand one it 35:20 shows you where the clauses were in the 35:21 section four but again in an 35:24 international standard it is in section 35:26 nine and it talks again that the 35:28 performance evaluation needs to be 35:30 risk-based it talks about you need to be 35:31 sure what methods you're going to be 35:33 using when you're going to be doing the 35:36 monitoring how who etc how you're going 35:39 to do the analysis what criteria are you 35:41 going to be a bench Viking yourself 35:43 against to show whether you have been 35:46 successful in approving or not and in 35:48 communicating that to the interested 35:49 parties be they internal or external 35:51 interested parties again the performance 35:56 evaluation gets into more detail again 35:59 on the right-hand side here this is 36:01 talks about what's again in the standard 36:05 and again it there is emphasis on the 36:07 legal and other requirements and other 36:09 requirements again could be things that 36:11 your organization is committing to and 36:13 then it talks about who what when where 36:14 how why it's going to be organized and 36:16 monitored and then the annex again talks 36:19 and gives some really good example 36:21 excellent examples on how you might 36:23 approach it so again take a look at it 36:25 it's very interesting reading really I 36:29 think it is Klaus Knight again continues 36:32 on the performance evaluation and the 36:36 evaluation of compliance with legal and 36:38 other requirements and so there will be 36:41 requirement you know a part of your 36:42 standard internal audit should be 36:45 looking at this and this will be an 36:46 emphasis for the transition or migration 36:48 audit as well clause ten the last Clause 36:53 talks about the improvement and this is 36:55 where continual improvement comes in we 36:58 have been told by our oversight body 37:00 because we also do get audited is that 37:02 an emphasis on all of these standards 37:03 will be to show that there is ongoing 37:06 continued improvement that the 37:07 organization's are showing that and so 37:10 there is 37:11 there will be emphasis on that the annex 37:15 again talks about some examples as far 37:17 as what you might be able to show as 37:20 examples of ongoing continual 37:24 improvement for the opportunities 37:27 whether it be new technologies 37:29 suggestions that you've gotten from 37:31 interested parties whether they be 37:32 employees or other interested parties 37:34 how you've incorporated you knowledge 37:36 and understanding of health and safety 37:39 related issues as you know there's often 37:41 new information that comes out on in 37:42 chemicals or new things with that with 37:45 respect to on hazards how you've what 37:48 you've done to improve that to avoid and 37:50 follow your hierarchy of control to 37:53 protect your employees capabilities in 37:55 et cetera so again just to summarize we 38:02 will be migrating with migration process 38:05 has officially begun 38:09 ISO 45,000 1 2018 occupational health 38:13 and safety we'll be replacing OSF 18001 38:16 2007 18001 will be considered withdrawn 38:20 at the end of the 3-year migration 38:21 period and that date will be March 11th 38:28 2021 and that if you are currently 38:31 certified to an occupational health and 38:34 safety 18001 you need to maintain that 38:37 certification until you have migrated 38:39 successfully to the new 45,000 one 38:41 standard I urge you to get a copy of the 38:46 standard as soon as possible and be sure 38:48 because it is copyrighted that you get 38:50 enough so that the right the people who 38:52 need to have a copy of it in your 38:53 organization have it so you'll probably 38:55 need to get more than one copy 38:57 associated with that you can get it from 39:00 our webpage from us or from M ISO itself 39:04 we encourage you to do a gap analysis 39:07 you can do it on your own or you can 39:08 contact us and we can do a gap analysis 39:11 for you again develop what your 39:14 implementation plan is based on where 39:15 your gaps are and be sure that you have 39:18 to find what your competency is and 39:20 training requirements are associated 39:22 with 45,000 39:23 and to be sure that you've involved 39:25 interested parties and met the intent of 39:29 the standard and then when you are ready 39:33 for doing an internal you have 39:36 everything in place everybody trained 39:37 you've done your internal audit you've 39:39 done your management review review 39:41 you'll be ready for your migration and 39:42 we will continue to talk to you about 39:44 that as we go forward again here's the 39:47 the two key dates again it was published 39:50 March 12 2018 we expect to have our 39:53 certification from a nab very soon so if 39:57 you're ready we will put you on the list 40:00 of photos to get our approval we can get 40:02 you scheduled we are requiring that the 40:06 migration audits be completed by January 40:08 11th 2021 that will give you time to in 40:12 case there's any outstanding like major 40:14 non-compliance those are minor 40:15 non-compliance issues we have those all 40:17 resolved before your certification 40:19 expires on March 11 2021 if you're in 8 40:23 & 8 2001 40:24 if you miss that date which we're sure 40:27 we will help you to support use that so 40:29 that you don't you will need have to 40:31 need to start over with stage 1 and 40:32 stage 2 but our goal will be that nobody 40:34 that doesn't happen to anybody so we 40:38 have had several webinars to date giving 40:42 you an update as we've gone through the 40:44 different drafts of international 40:46 standards today we talked about the 40:48 published standard and what has changed 40:50 and we will be having future webinars to 40:54 help you understand some of option tools 40:58 we have that will help you through the 40:59 migration in any text we can provide you 41:03 for smooth the migration and for 41:05 scheduling and answering questions so we 41:08 do have a poll question here and if you 41:10 could take the time to answer this poll 41:14 that would be great 41:20 you 41:34 great so it looks like most of you are 41:36 planning on migrating to the 45,000 won 41:39 some of you will be integrating with 41:42 9014 and possibly with some other 41:44 standard so that's that's great and so 41:46 again we will be on having some focus 41:49 quite a bit of focus on one of us in a 41:51 future webinar on integration two 41:53 because we know that's going to be one 41:54 of the key benefits in particular with 41:57 the new layout of a standard with the 42:00 ten clauses you can see then we will 42:04 continually be updating our web page and 42:06 we will send you notifications if you 42:08 are clients about any new information as 42:11 we post it on our web page but if you go 42:13 to NSF - is our that's the quickest way 42:17 to get there and then click on 42:18 environmental health and safety and then 42:20 we will have 45,000 when a new 42:22 information and again will be updated 42:24 and on a pretty regular basis over the 42:25 next couple of months and we already 42:27 have some good information there now but 42:29 this is so you know so what we covered 42:32 today we talked about the benefits of 42:33 occupational health and safety ISO 42:35 45,000 one some of the differences 42:38 between the 18,000 and the 45,000 one 42:41 highlighted some of the change that 42:43 emphasis and challenges and changes and 42:46 then also the timing to get to the new 42:49 standard and what you can do to to plan 42:51 to get there so at this point in time if 42:54 there's any questions I'll be happy to 42:56 answer them Katie you're my joy 43:25 directly and ask her any questions that 43:26 you have about the standard we are 43:30 updating our frequently asked questions 43:33 so we'll have that up there as well and 43:36 again we feel that we're really well 43:38 prepared to help our clients and our 43:41 auditors and everybody with a 43:43 transparence know the transition because 43:45 we've been three years in transition 43:47 that our standard so we've gotten all 43:50 the kinks worked out and so you were 43:51 able to take all those lessons learned 43:53 and have an even more fabulous product 43:57 to help you to be
