Introduction

The sacred scriptures of the world contain the keys to our salvation at
a time when the world is obviously on a collision course with disaster. Yet
few have mastered an understanding of the symbolic passages of scripture
so that, with often good intentions, our scholars and leaders are incapable
of providing us with right guidance for they are unable to, themselves, read
the wisdom of the masters of antiquity.
This was not without design. The word “sacred” actually means
”secret.” The Arabic word for sacred Is “haram.” The word also means
prohibited. The scriptures were never intended to be used by the ignorant
masses of people. They were secret power tools intended to be utilized by
those who earned the right to the awesome powers they promise.
Most of the scriptures were never intended to be written down. Even
the Quran, the scripture of Islam, was passed orally.The very word, “Quran”
, means “two recitatations” . The scriptures were written allegorically,
symbolically and metaphorically to deliberately hide the wisdom from “the
profane” With the discovery of old texts, such as the Dead Sea scrolIs, we
see the great pains to which initiates went to hide their wisdom once it had
been reduced to writing.
But the masters didn't stop there. In protecting their wisdom from
falling into improper hands, they deliberateIy placed “bugs” in the system
so that the system would “crash” if the experimenter was not properly
instructed. Such instruction could only be provided by a trained and
prepared sage or master who would impart the delicate instructions orally
and, often, after giving the student a vow of silence.
Add to that the fact that when the unlearned in high
metaphysical wisdom began to translate the scriptures from Ianguages with
which they were horribly unfamiliar, much knowledge was lost,
misinterpreted, mistranslated and left out.

Several groups such as the Freemasons, Rosicrucians, Golden

Dawn, Knights Templars and many others sought to piece together via
experimentation the power tools of the ancients. To a large extent, they
have succeeded. Yet they are still groping in twilight, seeking keys that
have not been imparted to them.
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad began his instruction of the deaf,
dumb and blind mentalIy slain at the point where most secret societies end
: Man is God. Like all master teachers, his teachings are largely veiled in
symbolism. He once said , “Im down here in the mud and nobody can see
me.” Because he had to simplify complex scientific wisdom for people who
had scant background for it, his true wisdom was often obscured.
The scripture of the Nation of Islam is the Lost -Found Lessons and
the Problem Book written by Master Fard Muhammad. These lessons
require a knowledge of the ancient arts to decipher and they demand
discipline and moral to place into practical use.
The Hebrews lost the Torah and reconstructed a doctrine that they
call the Torah and produced a manmade text called the Talmud. The
Christians lost the Injil of Jesus and pieced together books they call “The
Gospel.” The Muslims rearranged the Quran, possibly lost portions of it
when most of the Hafizs (guardians of the Quran who memorized it
verbatim) were killed.
Since the making of the Bukhari and Muslim Hadiths, they have
actually given preference to man-made Hadith sayings and stories while
giving vociferous lip service to the Quran. The pattern continues
throughout history.
For too many followers of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad , The
lessons are lying in drawers collecting dust. Snatches of them are quoted
during lectures or in debates.
While such brief quotes give power to the discussion and get reactions out
of the people to whom they are addressed even those totalIy unfamiliar
with the Lessons--

we rarely stop to reflect upon why the wording (that sometimes seems
awkward on the surface) should
convey such energy.
This series of pamphlets is aimed at exploring and
deciphering major points of interest in the lessons of Master Fard
Muhammad and the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. I do not take each word
Iiterally nor do I say that each Lesson is 100% correct — As Master Fard
Muhammad once wrote,” These questions are
answered very nearly correct by Elijah Muhammad, one of the Lost-Found
In the WiIderness of North America.”Even the Messenger himself is
reported to have said that were he to answer the questions today, he’d
answer them entirely differently.
No scripture is intended to relieve students of the need to think,
study, do research and arrive at truth for themselves. No prophet,
messenger, scientist, sage or teacher can do the work for us . Each of us
must carry his own burdens. The teachers can only give us direction and
point out signs for us, but if we are to reach enlightenment, then the journey
is primarily upon us.
Master Fard Muhammad gave us a problem book so that we would
be able to solve problems, using his methodology. This interpretation is of
Lost-Found Lesson No. 1, Question and answer # 7. It should be read in
conjunction with the pamphlet entitled Word is Bond.
I also touch upon the pertinent parts of Lost-Found No. I, Question and
Answer #5
Since the objective of writing these interpretations is to encourage the
renewed study and work with the lessons , I deliberately do not explain
every minute passage and point. With the keys provided, the diligent
student should be able to arrive at understanding on his or her own. In
accomplishing that , the knowledge will not be mine or anyone else’s, but
the reader’s own.

It is now plain to see that ordinary knowledge is insufficient for our

needs in these final days. As Stevie Wonder once put it , “The world is tired
of pacifiers, we want the truth and nothing else.”

Why does the devil keep our people illiterate?
ANS - So that he can use them for a tool and also a slave.
He keeps them blind to themselves so that he can master them.
Illiterate means ignorant.

The “Dead Gods” Ausar and Jesus

The purpose of initiation is to grow out of bondage to our passions,
blinding emotions and ignorance of reality into self-mastery and
enlightenment. The ultimate object is to realize the divine being that resides
within each man and woman but, in most of us, is symbolically “slain” and
must be “resurrected.”
Every soul will taste of death. And you will be paid your reward
fully only on the Resurrection day. Then whoever is removed far from
the Fire and is made to enter the Garden, he indeed attains the object.

In man’s embryonic developmental stage, she conceives of the divine
as an entity separate from herself.
Initiation begins the process of introducing the student, step-by-step, to the
Divine presence within until, ultimately, she grasps the fact that her true self
is not her complex of emotions, appetites, prejudices,conditioned reflexes
and attitudes. Rather ,her true self is her divine consciousness.
That which opposes It’s resurrection is the devil, whether that devil
expresses its designs internally or externally.
Identification with the lower expressions of humanity slays the divine
in us by separating us from our true selves. Buried , the Divine is relegated
to performing the vegetative functions of our bodies when, if resurrected, it

could rule our personal worId and relationships and bestow upon us all the
blessings of life if we will.
In the New Testament mythology, the slain God is symbolized as
Jesus Christ dying on the cross of materialism (the body, the earth).The
Christians adopted this imagery from ancient Egyptian spiritual science
which pictured the slain God Ausar (Osiris) as enclosed within a tree. An
“old rugged cross” is simply a tree that’s been cut and reshaped.
The Christ figure is later taken down from the cross and hidden in an
underground tomb with a stone placed at the mouth.
These events never happened, they are metaphors for the slaying,
occultation and resurrection of the God faculty within.
They say, We killed Jesus Christ, the son of Mary, the
Messenger of Allah. But they killed him not, nor did they crucify him,
but he was made to appear to them as such and certainly those who
differ therein are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge about it,
but only follow a conjecture, and of a surety, they killed him not.
--Quran 4: 157
The dead God is always inside our bodies (the earth) although it is ,
as it were , comatose. It's a vegetable (buried in a tree or hanging on a
cross) and needs to be reawakened or revived.
In the Egyptian metaphor, Ausar is resuscitated by his wife, Auset (
Isis) who transformed herself into a swallow and beat her wings to activate
the winds. This symbolizes the importance of breathing science
(pranayama) in the resurrection process.1
It is very rsignificant that the first person Jesus
encountered, upon his mythical emergence from the tomb, was Mary
Magdalene, the figure who fulfilled the role of Auset-as-wife to the God in
the Christian myth system. 2

The way to God realization is buried in symbolism, entombed in

allegory and the initiate must roll away the stone before God can come to
the surface of his life.
The connection of Auset and Mary Magdalene with the respective
resurrections indicates that the male is unable to succeed in bringing God
to Iife without the active and wise assistance of the female. This principle
is touched upon in the Lost -Found Lesson entitled, “What is the meaning
of M. G. T. and G. C.C.”
There is a powerful spiritual science contained in the statement that the
woman’s duty is “to take care of her husband” that is connected with her
assistance in bringing him into divine Iife.

Holy Cities
Many spiritual systems have their alleged holy cities which are
supposed to be, in some way, special.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God
out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the
tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall
be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
-- Revelation 21: 2-3

These holy cities are signs of states of consciousness that the initiate
reaches. For the most part, they represent the subconscious, but there are
many regions of the subconscious.
The ancient Egyptians referred to the highest regions as Sekhet
Hetep. Hetep means peace.
The Muslims refer to the holy city as Mecca and the Israelites refer to it as
Jerusalem. There are as many holy cities as there are religious systems.

5 . Why did we take Jerusalem from the devil? How long ago?
ANS.- Because one of our righteous brothers, who was a
prophet by the name of Jesus was buried there. He used his name to
shield his dirty religion which is called Christianity, also to deceive the
people so they will believe in him. Jesus’s teaching was not Christianity, it
was Freedom, Justice and Equality. Jerusalem is in Palestine, Asia
minor.Jerusalem is a name given by Jews, which means founded in peace
and it was first built by the original man who was called Jesus, also Salem
and Ariel.
took the city from the deviIs about seven hundred fifty years ago.
Ausar, in the Ausarian Egyptian system, resides in the Sekhet Aaru.
The “Jeru” in Jerusalem is etymologically related to “Aaru.” Salem (salaam)
means peace. That state of consciousness is the divine peace, so
Jerusalem symbolizes a high state of consciousness that is outside the
conditional situations we associate with peace and lack of peace.
The Revelation verse above shows that Jerusalem is not really a physical
city, but something that’s in heaven and “comes down” from heaven into
the minds of the developed initiates. God, then, dwells with (or in) men. The
Lesson above stating that Jesus was buried in Jerusalem is another way of
stating the same thing the Egyptians taught, i. e, that Ausar was in the
Sekhet Hetepu or Sekhet Aaru, dead to this world , but ruling the
“underworld” (i.e., the subconscious).
This also symbolizes that Jesus (i.e., “God”) is buried in symbolism
and hidden to all except groups , Masons, Rosicrucians and others.
However, the key to the whole lesson is the last sentence :
“We took the city from the devils about seven hundred fifty
years ago.”
The “750 years” actually represents the state of trance that is
achieved as 7.5 breaths per minute. By breathing at 7.5 breaths per
minute, the initiate enters the state of trance, here symbolized as
Jerusalem, and is able to take Jerusalem from the devil as Heru, son of

Ausar, was able to take Egypt ( “the Two Lands ,” i.e., left brain and right
brain hemispheres ) away from the tyrant Set.
How does Satan control Jerusalem ( the subconscious)? By
manipulating our subconscious reflexes and tastes via subliminaI seduction
and other pavlovian methods. We are manipulated and controlled as tools
and slaves via music, art, television, Ianguage, and various sorts of
“tricknology” (psychology).

The initiate, in becoming aware of his subconscious processes, takes

responsibility for the condition of his spirit and thus is able to seize his
personal Jerusalem away from the devil.
Jesus, or the God principle, is buried in that subconscious and when
it is liberated, the Christ can rule from heaven the affairs on the earth.

Indivisible Duality

Just as water, the element of Iife is comprised of two

indivisible molecules (hydrogen and oxygen), so are human beings
composed of two polarities that are incapable of separation.
These dualities are referred to as God/ Man, Mind/ Body, Male/
Female, NoumenaI/ Phenomenal, Subjective/ Objective, etc. Within the
body, this duality is reflected in our dual brain hemispheres, arteries/veins,
two Iungs, two Iips, left and right heart ventricles, testosterone/ estrogen
hormones, etc.
Sages often refer to this principle, in man, as the Higher Self and the
Lower Self or as the civilized man versus the savage or as God versus the
devil. Just as the Divine is within man, mythical devil (Satan).
Yet , while the polarities are interdependent for their manifestation ,
their relationship is not intended to be equal.
Men are a degree over them (women) and Allah is mighty , wise.

Water, for example, is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. The
message here is that the relationship between the higher and lower selves
should be weighted in favor of the higher self.
Men are the rulers over women​.
--Quran 4:34
The divine in us (symbolized here as “men”) is supposed to rule over
the emotional, receptive and imitative parts of our personality (symbolized
as “women”).
This is the preferred relationship whether, by gender, we are male or
female.

Yakub’s Grafted Devil

The devil is named Satan, “the adversary.” he is the “arch deceiver”
who tempts man and leads her astray from the right path.
The ancient Egyptians symbolized this doer of evil as Set, the
murderer of Ausar. Semitic languages placed a tanwin behind Set and
came up with Set-an or now Satan.3
Master Fard Muhammad named the diabolic adversary in man
“Yakub’s grafted devil.”
Before addressing Mr. Yakub and his eight ounce brain, let's make a
cursory exploration of the human brain.
The human brain is comprised of three brains in one.
1. Reptilian (Brain stem or R-complex).
2. Mammalian (Midbrain or Limbic).
3. Cerebrum.
The Reptilian brain is the oldest and most primitive part of the brain.
Its influence upon human behavior and thinking is the most powerful. Body

language , response to music and animal-like facial expressions and

gestures and initiated from the Reptilian brain.
This brain is the symbolic serpent who tempted Eve (the
subconscious) and, when out of control, becomes an awesome dragon who
wages war in heaven (the mind) by battling Michael (the will).
This serpent whispers to Eve or, as the Quran puts it,
“whispers into the hearts of men from the Jinn.”4
Our subconscious minds are sensitive to the infIuences of the
Reptilian brain, so the ancient writers wrote, metaphorically that it
whispered to Eve. Because it's the oldest part of the brain, the scientists of
scripture called it “that old serpent” (Revelation 12: 9) “which deceiveth the
whole world.”
The mammalian brain grew over the R-complex ike a limbus. This
brain is the seat of our emotions, drives for sex, fighting and animalistic
instincts and appetites. It’s “the beast” of scripture.5
The cerebral cortex is divided into two hemispheres, the left and the
right. The Ieft hemisphere processes data through verbal language, verbal
thinking and aural perception.
Within the left brain are two speech centers, the Brocca and the
Wernicke. The Egyptians symbolized these speech centers as the dogs
Anpu (Anubis) and Apuat. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad indicated the
canine like function of these centers by reference
to the dogs that befriended Yakub’s made man during his stay (for 2,000
years; 2 = the two speech centers) in Europe’s caves.
In movies Iike Omen 666 the devil was born from a dog. In the
Quran, Joseph is thrown into a well and then claimed (by his brothers) to
have been eaten by a wolf.
Dogs are symbols for left-brain verbal intellect because dogs are
responsive to speech, i.e., verbal commands although they are incapable
of fully understanding the words to which they respond. Dogs are very

intelligent animals with highly developed hearing abilities. They guide

hunters in pursuit of game as the intelligence is meant to guide man to the
most efficient accomplishment of her or his objectives.
But there is an inherent deficiency in the left brain hemisphere. It
breaks wholes into parts and distorts reality by processing data
sequentially. It differentiates things based upon their external differences. It
is therefore the basis of racial segregation , gender discrimination and the
illusion of linear time. The segregative faculty of the left brain is the root of
all the evils which plague the individual and the world.
The wicked , according to the Quran, are given their book in the left
hand while the righteous are given theirs in the right hand. This refers to
the left and right hemispheres of the brain , not to physical books and
physical hands.
The left brain is the seat of our beliefs. Whatever a person believes
tends to become actualized. We constantly form our personal worlds based
upon what we believe about ourselves and others. We are the actual
makers and owners of the planet, individually and ​en masse​ ,via our
beliefs.
The power of a belief or an idea to become realized causes people to
mistake their beliefs for the truth.
The ancient Black Dravidians of India referred to this principle as maya
(illusion). The Arabic word for the same thing is ​butl​ (falsehood).
The right hemisphere of the cerebral cortex is integrative in nature. It
unites pieces into wholes and processes data via visual or graphic intellect.
It is the seat of the subconscious,superconscious and collective
unconscious states. It is the seat of our spirituality , artistic abilities ,
dreams , trance states and divine powers.
In the Kabbalah Tree of Life, the left hemisphere is contained in the
Tree’s 8th sphere (Sebek, the dog-headed man) while the right hemisphere
is a faculty of the 7th sphere (Het-Heru).6

Because it’s an 8th sphere function, Mr. Yakub was said to have an 8
ounce brain. Since the left brain distorts by dividing and separating wholes
into parts, it rewrites or grafts reality. People under the dominance of the
8th sphere or left brain are called “Yakub’s grafted devils.”
Yakub (Jacob) means “reformer.” It re-forms or distorts our
perception of energy, matter and events. Like the Genesis Jacob , it’s slick
and deceptive. When it’s transformed or purified of it’s deceptive activities ,
its renamed Israel , a synthesis of Ishwara (Dravidian), R(Egyptian) and El
(Canaanite).
The left brain receives its data from the body, the lower subconscious
and the material world. It’s logical and concrete, so it cannot even conceive
of spiritual truths.
Because it’s separative by nature, It cannot see the connections between,
say putting animal hormones in food, and animalistic behavior of people
who eat that food.
The ancient black people of Sumer (Sumerians, Baby Ionians,
Cushites, Canaanites) referred to the two dogs or verbal intellectual
faculties as the two angels, Haaruwt and Maaruwt.
And they follow what the devils fabricated against the kingdom of
Solomon.7 And Solomon blasphemed not, but the deviIs blasphemed,
teaching men sorcery and what was sent down to the two angels in
Babylon, Haaruvt and Haaruvt. Nor do they teach anyone, until they say,
We are only a test, so blaspheme not. But they learn from these two the
means to sow discord between a man and his wife. And they cannot hurt
anyone with it except with Allah’s permission. And certainly they know that

he who buys it has no share of the happiness of the hereafter. And surely
evil is the price for which they have sold their souls, did they but know!
-- Quran 2:102

The discord between “a man and his wife” refers to the antagonistic
relationship between the left and right brain hemispheres or between man’s
logical, reasoning processes and his spiritual/ artistic/ metaphysical
processes.
“We are only for a test.” This means that, properly used, left brain
syllogistic knowledge is to test spiritual principles, not to define them.
“So do not blaspheme.” The blasphemy (kafara , to cover or supress )
refers to the left brain activity of covering reality and suppressing the
resurrection of the God within.
“The buyers of it will have no share in the happiness of the hereafter.”
Those who buy Yakub’s version of truth-- hook, line and sinker--will never
elevate their consciousness to the higher spiritual realms.

8, 7.5 & 6 Ounce Brains

The computer industry is based upon the B bit byte.

In classical astrology, there were eight planets (including Earth). Mastery of
the influences of those eight planets makes one “the Supreme Ruler of the
universe.”
By Yakub having an eight ounce brain is meant that he mastered the
material science of the laws of the eight globes of the laws of the eight
globes.

In Metu Neter Vol.Il ​Ra Un Nefer Amen writes, “The priests of Khun
did make a very important contribution to the understanding of the
subjective realm8 in their doctrine of the eight essential attributes of the
subjective realm.”
These eight essential attributes of the state of God/ Existence beyond
the manifested world was discussed by Sir Ernest Wallis Budge in his ​Book
of the Dead​. Budge writes, “A very ancient tradition in Egypt asserted that
Nu was the head of a divine company, which consisted of four gods and
four goddesses. These were:

Nu Nut

Hehu Hehut
Kekui Kekuit
Kerh Kerhet

“The gods Of these pairs were depicted in human form, with the heads of
frogs, and goddesses in the forms of women, with serpents heads. Nu was
the primeval water itself, Hehu personified its vast and endless extent,
Kekui the darkness which brooded over the water, and Kerh its inert and
motionless character.”9

The subjective realm is the name Amen gives to the state of Gods being prior to its manifestation of a
phenomenal universe. It corresponds to Elijah Muhammad’s Theology of Time doctrine of the state of
existence when nothing existed by dark matter. The Subjective realm, in Egyptian theology, is the state of

The goddesses all have their names ended with the letter “t” which is
similar to the tamarbutu “h” or “t” which, in Arabic, feminizes names.10
The “sky” symbolized the realm beyond creation that we usually refer
to as “heaven.”
Budge writes, “Another view represented the sky in the form of a
gigantic cow, her body forming the sky, and her four legs the pillars of the
same. Her legs were held in position by eight gods, two to each leg, and
her body was kept in its place by a god who held it up with his upraised
arms. This cow gave birth to the sun, which was then Iikened to a calf, and
the deceased when reborn in the sky was compared to a sucking calf.”
Compare the Kamitic (ancient Egyptian) concept with the following
Quranic passage:
He created you from a single being, then made its mate from her.
And he sent down for you eight from the cattle in pairs. He creates
you in the wombs of your mother’s creation after creation-- in triple
darkness. That is Allah, your Lord. To him is the kingdom. There is no
God but he. How are you then turned away?
-Al-Quran 39:6
It is obvious that the Egyptian concept of the sky as a great cow was
transferred to the Islamic system, though how understood is open to
question. The “eight from the cattle in pairs” refers to the above mentioned
eight attributes which pictured as “gods” and “goddesses.”
Mr. Yakub’s eight ounce brain symbolizes that he, as the God of his
portion of the 25,000 year cycle, had attained the full powers and
consciousness of the principles and attributes of the realm outside of
creation as we know it, that he had reached God consciousness and was
himself a “God in Person.”
As these eight are the essential attributes which comprise the nature
of Existence in its purest form, the 8 pattern expresses itself throughout
creation down to the computer industry, the Chinese I Ching oracle and the
brain developmental stages.

Within the 8th sphere of the Tree of Life, according to the Canaanite
Kabbalah system, are 72 Mercurial spirits called the Shemhamphoras. In
occult work “Shemhamphoras” is a word of power that’s announced to gain
entry into the astral planes.
72= (9x8) . There are 72 degrees between each point of the star of
the Flag of Islam, which star actually symbolizes the planet Mercury.
The Black man, according to the Honorable
has a 7.5 ounce brain while the white man has “a six ounce grafted brain.”

Trance consciousness sets in at a breathing rate of 7.5 breaths per

minute . This opens the possibility of accessing all knowledge and wisdom
when the initiate learns how to properly function in the state of trance.
In the undeveloped, trance is more or less a negative experience into
which he is thrown unintentionally. But in the initiate, entry into trance is like
the “open o sesame” to the realms of light, joy, power, prosperity and divine
wisdom.

Briefly, the state of consciousness a person experiences is

dependent upon the rate and depth of her breathing. Rapid breathing
externalizes consciousness and slow breathing internalizes it. Shallow
breathing causes one to enter a state we call sleep while deep breathing
awakens a person.
Meditation is accomplished by breathing slowly (thus bringing
internalization of consciousness) but deeply (thus awakening one). The
result is “the waking trance” in which the person is asleep to the outer world
but awake to the inner world.
According to Ra Un Nefer Amen,7.5 breaths per minute is the rate for
performing japa (protracted repetition of mantras).11
“6 breaths / min.,” writes Amen , “will place us in the Dwapara Yuga
stage which is excellent for learning material facts.”12

As the 6 breaths per minute rate of breathing facilitates learning

material facts, science, energy properties such as electricity , etc.the
children of Mr. Yakub are said to have “six ounce brains.”

Moon People

In a very old writing, quoted in E.U. Essien-Udom’s ​Black

Nationalism ​the Honorable Elijah Muhammad stated that we once were
called “Moon people.” In other writings , the messenger has stated that our
people once Iived on the part of the earth that was separated and formed
the Moon.
Much of the theology of the Nation of Islam pertains to the
deportation of the Moon “66 trillion years ago. “The very Flag of Islam
prominently displays a symbol of the crescent moon.
The spheres of the Tree of Life are associated with a
The 9th sphere, Auget or Yesod, is associated with the
Planet Moon.
In spiritual and mundane astrology, Africans are said to be ruled by
the sign of Cancer. The planetary ruler of Cancer is the Moon.
As the primary mode of learning for African people ( including
African-Americans) is via trance, Black people are said to be “Moon
people.”

Trance should not be mistaken to be a state that only

permits dreams, vision and hallucinations. Trance states , properly
manipulated, can render scientific knowledge, medical guidance,
interpretations of scriptures, solutions to relationship problems, and a whole
host of wisdom and information up to and including arriving “Face to Face
with God.”
When the rate of breathing is brought down to 7.5 breaths per minute,
the meditator reaches the sphere of consciousness that’s linked with the
Moon and thus becomes, metaphorically, a “Moon Man”(smile).
The “mystic number” of Auset is 7. This number is considered divine
in many spiritual systems.
As the Auset plane is a requirement for any spiritual advancement
whatsoever, seven is a divine number.
Because Gabriel is the archangel of the 9th sphere, “he brings down
the revelations to thy heart ,” when information is imparted via trance
states.

In Kamitic spiritual culture, in the story of Heru’s battles

against Set, when Auset freed Set from punishment after Heru had
defeated him, Heru got angry and decapitated her, replacing her head with
that of a cow.
As mentioned above, one of the mental pictures of the
heavenly realm, among the Egyptians, was a cow. The meaning is that the
initiate, son of Ausar, first enters at the stage of Auset. However, in his
battles to become the true inheritor of his father’s kingdom, he moves from
the level known as Auset (or Mary in New Testament theology) and
ascends his consciousness alI the way to the level of full development (the
“deity”Amen) which is here symbolized as a cow, i.e. , the cow “sky
goddess.”

X : More than a movie

During 1930-34, when Master Fard Muhammad personally led the

Detroit-based Nation of Islam, the Saviour gave his followers Arabic holy
names. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad was reluctant to give out names,
preferring that his followers receive their
names from Allah.
When I was 17, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad wrote me a letter in
which he told me , Nobody can name you, brother, but Allah. I give out
names, but I know what I am doing. There is no equal to the names I give
except the names of Egypt.
At the time, I had a Swahili name, Kuweka Mwandishi, and I strongly
resisted having to go back to using a slave name, even with an “X” placed
before the slave surname.
Like all mosque members, I knew that the X represented the
unknown quality of the person’s nature as well as the fact that, due to
slavery, our sir names were unknown. It also was said to symbolize that we
were ex-slaves, ex-drug users, etc.
Why did the Honorable Elijah Muhammad replace our slave names
with a letter?
There are, of course, definite psychological effects from relinquishing
one’s name. It helps to break one’s identification with her past and opens
the way for her to assume a new identify. If properly managed,
name-changing can facilitate a new psychological birth.
If mishandled, the student can become a candidate for serious brain
washing.
Many scriptural figures underwent changes of name. Abram became
Abraham; Jacob became Israel ; Ahmad became Muhammad. More
recently, Elijah Pool was renamed Elijah Karriem and later Elijah
Muhammad .

Timothy Drew was renamed Prophet Noble Drew Ali.

At the time the Honorable Elijah Muhammad assumed leadership of
the Nation of Islam, many of his converts were illiterate. By giving them an
“X” to sign as their name, he liberated them of the shame and humiIiation
they experienced whenever they had to sign an “x” to a document because
they couldn't write their names.
At the same time, by connecting “x” with algebra, he
instilled a curiosity about mathematics in his early followers. These same
illiterate followers would become so inspired and thirsty for learning that
they would not only go on to learn to read and write, but would send their
children and grandchildren to some of the world’s finest universities and
would even help build a private educational system13 that became the best
primary
and secondary education system in the Black community.
The “x” is a kind of cross and evokes images of the Christian symbol.
It thus denotes a person who has “died to the world,” or as the ​Egyptian
Book of Becoming Awake
puts it, the person becomes the deceased, the Ausar.
The first thing a person joining the Nation of Islam must do is write a
letter that states:
“Dear Saviour Allah, Our deliverer, Who came in the Person of Master Fard
Muhammad. I believe in the religion of Muhammad. I desire a name from
Thee.”
This letter had to be punctuated perfectly, written legibly and
according to the best rules of the king’s English.
The requirement of perfection forced illiterate converts to learn at
least rudimentary English as well as instilling in them the need to do their
best instead of just getting by.
But why the emphasis on letters?

The Ummi (illiterate) Prophet

Those who follow the Messenger—Prophet, the Ummi, whom they find
mentioned in the Torah and the injil . He enjoins them good and
forbids them evil, and makes lawful to them the good things and
prohibits for them impure things, and removes from them their
burdens and the shackles which gere on them. So those who believe
in him and honour him and help him, and follow the Iight
which has been sent down with him - these are the successful.
-Al-Quran 7: 157

The word that’s usualIy translated illiterate is “ummi”

It comes from the word”um: which means mother. An
“Ummi,” then is one who reaches the consciousness derived from the
mother. Who is the mother? In the Egyptian system, it is the Mother
Goddess Nut at the top and the mother Goddess Auset (Isis) at the bottom
of the Tree of life.
The 9th sphere of the Tree of Life is called Yesod in the Canaanite
tradition. It means foundation. Yesod corresponds to the state of
mediumistic trance (7.5 breaths per minute) that is the foundation of all
learning.
Prophet Muhammad regularly entered trance states during which he
would receive revelation from the Archangel Gabriel.
“Ummi prophet” symbolizes that Muhammad received inspiration while in
the trance state, i.e., he entered the state of consciousness that we’d
symbolically today call “the Mother Plane.”
In the modern world, an educated, learned and erudite person is
sometimes called a “man of letters.” Many Phds don't really know very
much beyond rote memorization and repetition of what others have already
written and spoken. We can easily determine that the term “man of letters”
symbolizes something beyond having a Ph.D degree.

The word “illiterate” is derived from the Latin litteratus

“marked with letters.” It is derived from litterae, “letters.” “illiterate” comes
from Latin illiteratus from in (not) + litteratus.
An illiterate , then is a person who is ignorant of or not marked by
letters.

Twenty-two Hundred Miles

Lost -Found Lesson No. I, Answer # 4 states, “We ran the devils over
the Arabian Desert. We took from them everything except the language
and made him walk every step of the way; it was twenty-two hundred miles.
The Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters. One of these letters forms each
subchapter of chapter 119 of the Book of Psalms. The 22 chapters of
Revelation also correspond with the 22 Hebrew letters.
The Lesson teaches that everything except the language (left—brain
syllogistic logic) was taken from Yakub’s devils and that they had to walk
every step (degree) of 22 hundred miles.
These 22 hundred miles refers to sound power units available via the
Hebrew Ianguage.
The sound power units may be combined to form mantras (words of
power) to affect the inner and outer environment.
The Arabic sound unit system consists of 35 Letters (29 consonantal
and 6 vowel sounds) while the Dravidian (Sanskrit) system consists of the
full 50 letters.
The letters (kalimaat) are combined to form mantras (ayats) that are
repeated (dhikr) in a state of trance (i.e.,
“in the Garden”). The spirit (ruwh) or mind (nafs) of the person is thereby
“marked by letters” and she then has powers corresponding with the letters
or mantras.

The devil or logical processes of the left brain cannot see the benefit
of mantras or divine letters, so he works to keep our people illiterate, i.e.,
unmarked by letters.
During meditation, at first the mind balks at repeated mental chanting
of mantras. It's rather hard for Musa to civilize this left-brain devil.
Eventually , though , the circular chanting “ties Satan down” and it submits
to enter into the trance state.

Tool & Slave

The devil (left brain verbal intellect) wants the whole being to serve its low
interests. It thus uses our people as instruments (tools) of its objectives. It
enslaves us to our
emotions, Iusts and appetites. It will even use other ignorant women and
men to help carry out its objectives.
In ​Muhammad Speaks​ newspaper, the Messenger of Allah gave a drawing
of such “tool” women and gave them the name “the shyless and the
disgrace.”
Have you seen him who takes his low desires for his god? Wilt thou
be a guard over him?
-Al-Quran 25:43
The devil can thus master us.
The word “ignore” comes from “ig” [no] + nur [light].
The ignorant one is the person who is without light, i.e.,
not enlightened. The word for criminal or sinner, in Arabic, is ​zaalim​. It
comes from a root which means “darkness.” Thus , we see that the criminal
is inherently ignorant of the true light and the way to transform the criminal
is to bring him or her into the light.
The ignorant is one who is not enlightened. Enlightenment is not the
average education or information.

Enlightenment is a state of God-realization in which the initiate attains to

certain knowledge and experience that she is God and that the self that she
is is the same self that resides in all life. That oneness (tawhid) is the basis
upon which law abidance and morality naturally springs forth. The
Egyptians referred to this kind of God-directed morality as the goddess
Maat.
Self, in Arabic, is nafs. “Themselves” is ​anfusuhim​. But ​nafs​ also
means “mind” “soul” or “psyche.” The lesson says that the devil “keeps
them blind to themselves,” i.e, blind to their souls or spirits. Thus blinded ,
they are enslaved and denied the divine light.
When the student slays his inner devils and resurrects the God within
and masters the correct use of the sound units of power , she becomes a
living God who can make rain, hail, snow and earthquakes and Iiberate
himself via the Truth.

Dhikr: The Activation of Ayats (Mantras)

The Iife force that the initiate is to activate or raise is
called Kundalini by the Dravidians, libido by psychoanalysts, Ra by the
Egyptians, the Christ by Christians and salaat by the Muslims.
In salaat, the names of Allah are repeated over and over
until the musallim (praying one) enters a state of trance.
Islam calls it dhikr, though it is not practiced correctly in most masaajid
(mosques).
The mantras (ayats) are combinations of the letters(kalimaat). By
repeating them in a state of trance, the attributes and powers of the
particular mantra become ingrained on the musallim’s spirit (ruwh). He thus
becomes “marked by letters.”
In ​The Serpent Power​, Sir Arthur Avalon writes: “The mere utterance
, however , of “ram” or any other Mantra is nothing but a movement of the
lips. When , however , the mantra is “awakened” (prabuddha) - that is ,
when there is a mantra-caitanya (Mantra—consciousness)- then the
Sadhaka (initiate can make the mantra work.”

Avalon goes on, “Each man is Siva, and can attain his
power to the degree of his ability to consciously realize himself as such.
For various purposes the Devatas (angels) are invoked.
Mantra and Devata are one and the same.
A Mantra-Devata is Sabda and Artha, the former being the name, and the
latter the Devata whose name it is.
By practice (Japa) with the mantra the presence of the Devata is invoked.
Japa or repetition of Mantra is compared to the action of a man shaking a
sleeper to wake him
The two Iips are Siva and Sakti. Their movement is the
coition (Maithuna) of the two. Sabda which issues therefrom is in the nature
of Seed or Bindu.
The Devata thus produced is, as it were, the “son” of the Sadhaka. It is not
the Supreme Devata (for it is actionless) who appears, but in all cases an
emanation
produed by the Sadhaka for his benefit only.
The power (angel or deva) produced by chanting the mantra wakes
up the faculty that had been lying dormant inside the initiate. It becomes
the “son” of the initiate.
We now are approaching an understanding of what the lessons mean when
they teach that “there is no god but the son of man.”
The mantra (sound or “name” of the deity) and the force,faculty or
angel are “one and the same.”
The work with the mantra transforms the initiate into the nature of the
deity itself. This is the meaning behind the chapters of transformation in the
Egyptian Pert em Hru (so called Book of the Dead). It also sheds some
light on the Quranic verses which state that certain people were
“transformed into apes and pigs.”
The “mystic letters” that head several chapters of the Quran are
wonderful mantras with which to begin work.

In qad’ah (the long sitting posture) the musallim can chant these letters to
initiate the process of marking his spirit with letters, i.e., evolving out of the
state of spiritual illiteracy.
He or she will thus begin the process of gaining liberation from
bondage to the devil and will begin to become a master.
