MAINTENANCE WORKS OF S&T ASSETS DURING LOCK DOWN

SIGNALLING: Reliable Performance of Signaling & Telecom Assets is not

only required for Punctuality of trains but is also directly related to Safe
running of Trains. Therefore, maintenance of signaling gears was focus area for
reliable and safe train operation.

1. To ensure safe train operation full maintenance schedule was followed

for point maintenance. At 687 stations points were maintained as per
laid down maintenance schedule. The obstruction test to ensure safe
operation of point machines were conducted on around 12000 point
machines. Precautions were taken during maintenance and social
distancing norms were ensured.
2. Joint Point & Crossing inspections with Engg. deptt. were conducted at
246 Stations. The deficiencies noted are being attended.
3. All Signals and Track circuits of mainline were maintained as per
Schedule. However, other signals and track circuits were maintained on
relaxed maintenance Schedule.
4. All Block Instruments were attended as per maintenance schedule to
ensure safe working.
5. Maintenance of Power Supply System and Batteries were done at 581
stations. 390 IPS(Integrated Power Supply System) and 21450 Batteries
were tested and maintained during this period.
6. During this period, 835 Lifting barriers gates were attended and
maintained. Along with this total 465 Sliding Boom Barriers were also
tested and maintained.

In addition to above regular maintenance, the activities which require

blocks and disconnections so difficult to get done during normal traffic
condition were taken up during this duration. The details are below:

1. In this period Cable meggering at stations to ensure proper health of

cables were taken up. It has been completed at 119 stations.
2. System integrity test of PI/EI/RRI was also taken up during this period
and this important safety activity was completed at 82 stations during
the lockdown period.
3. Summer precautions for S&T gears to were issued from HQ. Summer
precautions have been completed at 265 stations. This includes Proper
 checking and adjustment of Power supply System, DG Sets, Batteries,
Track circuit parameters, Point and crossings, Lightening & Surge
protection and proper upkeep of Relay room.
4. Earth faults appearing in the ELD were attended and rectified at 89
stations.

KNOWLEDGE UPDATION: During this lockdown to keep the knowledge of

staff updated and keep them engage many on-line initiative were adopted.

1. A YouTube channel of S&T Training school, Ghaziabad was launched.

Around 80 videos on various topics of S&T were prepared in-house by
the staff and uploaded. This initiative was highly appreciated by staff and
subscription of channel has reached to 1.54K in this period.
2. 29 on-line classes were organized on various topics of S&T maintenance.
Each lecture was followed by Q&A session and assignment. 11 more
such on line lectures are planned in this week.
3. The OEMs of Signaling equipments were also roped in and online
presentation/Lectures were organized. Online lectures on SSDAC by M/s
GGTRONICS, Earthing & Lightning protection by M/s JMD and UFSBI
by M/s Deltron have been conducted. Many more are plannedin this
week. These were attended by Officers and staff of all Divisions, Project
and Construction Organisation.

TELECOMMUNICATION

Activities arising out of COVID-19:

1. In view of the outbreak of COVID-19, Nodal control Room for Indian

Railway started by providing necessary facilities of Voice /Data i.e
Railway Phone and Railnet/internet connection at Baroda House, New
Delhi.
2. Face to Face Enquiry system provided in Hospitals of Ambala division,
Moradabad Division, Lucknow division & NRCH New Delhi to ensure
better interaction & social distancing.
3. Video consultancy services provided in Divisional Hospital Delhi,
Moradabad, Firozpur, Lucknow & Ambala during March’20. This will
help Railway officials and their families to take medical consultancy
through whatsapp video call.
 4. For awareness Audio clip regarding precautions to be taken to spread
Covid-19 has been in-corporated in all stations announcement systems
and are being played regularly.
5. Arrangements for connection of CRB Video conference, GM Video
conference with DRMs & PHODs and other local V.C like DRM to
Branch officers, PHODs to other zonal PHODs& Divisional officers from
home through WebEx, Zoom & Google hangout applications have been
made.
6. Communication facility of Rly phones with Railnet facility provided at
Quarantine center Shakurbasti and in Quarantine center
RPSF/Dayabasti of Delhi Division.
7. Railnet/Internet facility provided through Wi-Fi in 24 Rooms of
Quarantine center Diesel Shed/Tuglakabad of Delhi division.
8. 300 nos JIO Wi-Fi dongle procured for COVID-19 Quarantine Rail-
coaches (DLI-100, LKO-100, MB-50 UMB-30 & FZR-20).
9. Programmed two channels in UMB-LDH & UMB-SRE section to provide
Rly or BSNL telephone for emergency.
10. Additional OFC Channels have been created for provision of Railway
phones at JUDW and YJUD.
11. Channel programmed through NMS to provide Rly telephone
connectivity at CTW, SEQ, PUL & LHM station. Channel also
programmed for data logger & tested at LHM station.

Regular Maintenance Activities:

1. Periodical Maintenance of telecom gears done at all stations except KLK-

SML sections & PTK-JDNX section as no freight train is being done in
these sections.
2. 6 Quad cable re-jointing done at 12 Emergency Sockets on UMB & FZR
division.
3. Earthing of Armour & Sheath of 4/6 Quad cable done in BAT-CHN,GSP-
DNM & GSP-DXW section to avoid UFSBI and SSDAC failures.
4. Repair &Testing of defective STM-1 Fibcom 6325 of SMU station in
control office and replaced defective card.
5. Magneto telephone repaired 15 nos. in UMB & MB div. Push button
telephone repaired 16 nos. in UMB & MB division.
6. WSE and its power supply repaired at 04 stns of UMB division.
 7. Independent Gate communication has been provided at 52 LC gates of
MB division.
8. 6 Quad cable jointing schedule has been updated in excel sheet from
BSPN to DLPC section of UMB division. 6 Quad cable testing details with
date of testing and parameters have been documented in FZR division.
9. UTS & FOIS connectivity diagram has been updated over FZR division.

Staff Protection :

1. Personal Protection Kits i.e. Masks, Gloves, sanitizer & soaps arranged
and distributed among all working staff in all five divisions and HQ staff.
Total 4780 masks, 1753 Sanitizers, 2350 hand gloves and 1210 liquid
soaps have been distributed.
2. Regular sanitization work of offices being done, being a regular activity
as
per new office Protocol.
