During World War 2, the Japanese took the Philippines from the control of the United States.
This occurred somewhere in the range of 1941 and 1945, when the United States had the
option to reclaim ownership of the country. After regaining possession, the United States
surrendered its control, satisfying its guarantee of allowing full Independence to the Philippines.
Since the Japanese were there for such a brief period, they didn't leave a lot of that permanently
adopted into the Filipino culture. Be that as it may, they certainly changed the way things done
during their time in the Philippines. Things changed during the Japanese rule over the
Philippines, they enforced a strict curfew are still presently seen today, they introduced the
Japanese currency, the Baranggays, neighborhood government system were cut in half. They
also implemented government was implemented during those time. Today, the most notable
Japanese influence on Filipino culture has been in technology – such as karaoke, videoke,
cameras, etc.
In any case, based on my exploration, Japanese left no perpetual imprint on the Filipino
lifestyle, when the Japanese left, Filipinos returned to life essentially the manner in which it was
before they had even come, it would be years after the fact before the Japanese would begin to
influence Filipino culture. Today their impact in the Philippines is very common. But it wasn’t so
back then.
