CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

A. Purpose of the Research

The purpose of this research is how to teach reading through the

Communicative Language Teaching Method that occurs in learning reading

process. The research instructs the students to find more information from

many sources then they practicing reading orally about the information what

they get , so they can understand what they read, and add their vocabularies

and writing ability.

B. Setting of the Research

Setting of the research will take place in ………….. City, the time at

semester II, and will be do at three cycles.

a. The Place of the Research

The place of research of teaching reading through Communicative

Language Teaching Method is at eighth grade of SMP

b. The time of the Research

This research will be do at first semester year of study 2010/2011,

from December until February 2011. The source time of the research from

school academic of calendar, because the classroom action research need

some cycles to make more effective in lesson process in a class.

C. Method of the Research

In this research, the researcher will use class action research. The

main function of action research is to facilitate the reflective cycle, and in this

way provide an effective method for improving professional action. This

research will do on three cycle to find improving students’ reading skill

through English daily news activity.

Before the research begin, the researcher make some instruments to

use for the action research; lesson plans; basic of the competent; the material

of the lesson (worksheet, observation plan, and evaluation plan).

D. Subject of the Research

The subject of the research is the students of eight grade of SMP

……………………. It consist 25 students each class, but the researcher only

choose one class for the research because the limitation of the time for the

research.

E. Steps of the Research

In the following section, the researcher explains about procedure of

teaching, reading through English daily news activity. The research process

are dividing into three cycles in every cycle the researcher will give the

different material and media. In every cycle, have four steps.

Reading becomes the preliminary activity before give them some

practices then made calculation of result from both test. The researcher will

give the text to read and comprehend for the students. It will be showed how

far the students reading ability and others components of the language that

they had. Here the participatory (collaborative) observation includes the

English teacher (the researcher), the students grade eighth, and the process of

English lessons at classroom.

Through the cycle I, cycle II, cycle III, and the next cycle if necessary

in accordance with the targets that would like to accomplish.

Cycle 1:

1. Planning, was the preparations for the implementation of classroom

action research, the following:

a. Researchers analyzing the curriculum know the basic

competence that will teach to students.

b. Create a lesson plan.

c. Creating instructional media

d. Describe alternative problem solving

e. Creating a student worksheets

f. Make instruments to be used in cycle

g. Develop learning evaluation

2. Action, namely the description of actions to undertaken in accordance

with the procedures for action to implemented.

3. Observations, data recording procedures regarding the process and

product implementation of planned actions.

4. Reflection, a description of the procedures and impacts analysis of the

process improvement actions are implement.

Cycle 2

1. Planning, researchers create lesson plans based on a reflection on the

first cycle.

2. Action, Researchers conducting lessons based on learning plans reflect

the results of the first cycle.

3. Observation Researchers and collaborators examine the learning

activities.

4. Reflections, researchers to reflect on the implementation of the second

cycle and prepare planning for the second cycle.

Cycle 3

1. Planning, researchers create lesson plans based on a reflection on the

second cycle.

2. Action, Researchers conducting lessons based on learning plans reflect

the results of the second cycle.

3. Observation Researchers and collaborators examine the learning

activities.

4. Researchers reflect on the implementation of the third cycle, analyze,

and make conclusions on the implementation of learning by taking

action (treatment) specific.

F. Source of Data

1. Students, to get data about student learning outcomes and activists in the

development of teaching and learning process.

2. Teachers, to see how successfully the implementation of learning reading

skills.

3. Colleague and collaborator, is intended as a source of data to see the

implementation of a comprehensive classroom action research, both for

students and teachers

G. Technique of Data Analysis

1. Test, used to get data from student learning outcomes.

2. Observations, is used to collect data on the activities of students in the

learning process through reading the Communicative Language

Teaching Method.

3. Interview, to get data about the level of learning reading through the

successful implementation of Communicative Language Teaching

Method.

4. Discussions between teachers and collaborators to reflect the results of

the cycle
