2.2 Power Supply

An external supply voltage of +24 Volt DC is required. The non-electrically-isolated voltages of ± 5
Volt and -15 Volt are created internally. As long as the power supply is not in order, a watchdog of
±5V and -15 Volt supply voltage sets the Controller "Reset" signal high. In order a fault in the
device not to block the 24 Volt input voltage, a replaceable fast fuse of 2,5A is inserted at the input.

2.3 ARCnet- and Micro-controller

The combination of the micro-controller 80C196 and ARCnet-controller COM 20020 controls the
whole function of the network nodes. The micro-controller accesses the software saved in EPROM
via its ports. The software on one hand, controls the Interface to the display, on the other hand, the
data transfer to the bus-controller. This in turn controls the complete traffic on the Fieldbus. For the
bus-protocol, it should be referred to the software specification which is not discussed in this paper.
Memory
The 16-bit micro-controller 80C196 provides a maximum memory range of 64 kBytes of program
code as well as 64 kBytes RAM. The RAM memory is in addition to the controller memory, used
for the I/O interface and node addresses. The corresponding memory partitioning is shown in the
following diagram:

Node Address
Each node in the network must have a unique address. The address is selected by means of a
DIP-switch S301 in range 1..63 and can be chosen on-will as long as it is unique within the
network. It should be noted that the nodes are processed in the order of their addresses.

HIEE 420308 E
-7- AF C094 AE, 01/02

2.4 Line Driver

The line driver Hybrid HYC 9088 converts the digital signals of the serial output of the ARCnet-
controller into electrically-isolated and DC-free "dipulses" which are then transferred to the bus.
Besides, it also receives dipulse signals sent by other nodes and converts them into mC-
compatible digital signals. It is also able to drive a coaxial cable (RG 62). The link from one device
to another is carried out using a BNC-T through which the device can be mechanically separated
from the bus without disturbing the rest of it. On both ends, the bus cable must be terminated by a
93 Ohm surge impedance. The bus driver is electrically compatible with the standard ARCnet
systems. The bus partitioning which avoids the data collision is implemented in the software
protocol.

2.5 Monitoring
The following hardware supervisory circuits are included in the device. The power supply
supervision or watchdog alarm is indicated by clearing of LED's, display and background
illumination.
Power Supply Monitoring
This supervises the failure of ±5 Volt and -15 Volt power supply as well as undervoltage and at the
same time, by power-up creates a power-up signal through which the bus driver and controller are
set to stillstand (hold).
Watchdog
The device contains a watchdog which supervises the correct program sequence and in case of a
malfunction switchs off the controller, the LED's, the display and the background illumination via an
interrupt routine. Finally the bus driver is blocked so that the network detects the fault. This error is
saved and can be only reset either by switching OFF/ON the power supply or by pressing of any
function key on the keyboard.
Besides, there is a time-out (ARCnet-condition) which forces a bus initialization, if the node doesn't
receive the token for longer than 840ms. The bus initialization takes ca. 2s. Furthermore, if a
device is defected, the network detects it automatically, but the rest of the bus traffic is not
disturbed. The same applies when the device is put back into operation in which it automatically
returns into the logical ring.

2.6 Display
The display includes 8 lines, each containing 40 characters (240x64). Either 8 analog signals or 4
with bar display of 0...120% can be displayed simultaneously. Each signal is assigned to a channel
number. A maximum of 64 pre-defined analog signals can be displayed. During start up the signals
of the channel numbers 1...8 are transferred, saved in the control panel and at the same time
displayed as 8 analog signals or 4 with bar display depending on programming.
Display structure per line:
• channel number 1...64
• signal name (defined by programming)
• four digit value with sign and decimal point (decimal point position defined by programming)
• Physical unit (defined by programming)
If a plant error occurs the error message is automatically displayed including an error number and
description text. The first occurred error appears on the first line and following errors in ascending
order of their error numbers. The alarm-LED blinks at the same time. After pressing the
confirmation key the alarm LED changes from blinking to steady light. The alarm-LED goes off if
there is no error present and the original message is displayed.
Structure of the error message:
• error number 1...80 (device version 1)
error number 1...152 (device version 2)
• error description text (defined by programming)

2.6.1 Operation Mode

2.6.1.1 Analog Signal Display
By pressing this key, 8 analog signals with their channel numbers appear on the display
and the yellow LED is active. Further analog signals can be displayed with the scroll-
key.

2.6.1.2 Bar Display

By pressing this key, 4 analog signals with their channel numbers and corresponding
bars appear on the display. At the same time, the yellow LED is active. Further analog
signals can be displayed with the scroll-key.

2.6.1.3 Error Messages

By pressing this key, up to 8 error messages appear on the display if any errors are
present (red LED is active). The first occurred error always appears on the first line and
following errors in ascending order of their error numbers. Further error messages can
be displayed with the scroll-key. By the first error message, the control panel
automatically switches to error message display.

By pressing this key, an error message can be confirmed and the red LED changes to
steady light or if there is no error it goes off. By occurrence of a new error it starts
blinking again.

2.6.1.4 Node Adress Display

By simultaneously pressing both keys, the node addresses of all active devices
on the fieldbus appears on the display.

2.6.2 Operation
2.6.2.1 Cursor-Key
By pressing the cursor key, the lines 1...8 as well as 1..4 are selected on the display.
# The current line is indicated with inverse channel number. By the last line it jumps to the
first line. The cursor key is only active in the analog and bar display.

HIEE 420308 E
- 10 - AF C094 AE, 01/02

2.6.2.2 Scroll-Key
By pressing the scroll key, in analog signals as well as bar displays, the inverse
chann el number with its value changes.
By pressing in the error message, all error numbers with their messages
between lines 2 to 8 move to the previous or next line. The first line with
the first error remains unchanged.

2.6.2.3 Page-Key
By pressing the page key, the channel numbers and error numbers are shifted
10 and 6 positions respectively. Otherwise this key has the same function as
the scroll key.

2.6.2.4 Printer-Key
By pressing the printer key, the analog signals of lines 1...8 are sent to the printer via
the serial interface RS-232. If error messages are present, they are also sent to the
printer. The yellow LED is only active during data transfer and printer ready mode. It
starts blinking if the printer buffer is momentarily full. The printer function can be also
activated through PSR application program.

2.6.3 Process Control

The control panel includes 16 function keys F1...F16 with yellow LEDs. The status of the keys is
passed to the PSR application program via the Fieldbus. A short key press is saved for 150 ms.
The LEDs are switched on or off via the Fieldbus by the PSR application program.
The LEDs are equipped with a lamp test.
