1. Karla caves
Eleven Kilometres away from Lonavala, are a beautiful complex of ancient Buddhist
Indian rock-cut caves at Karli called Karla caves. These are also referred as Karli Caves,
Karle Caves or Karla Cells. There are many things that you get to see and do in karla

point of attraction of lonavala tourism and hosts several tourists from every part of the
country. Here are some facts and interesting features of karla caves. From different
sources like carbon dating and rock inscriptions it is affirmed these are the oldest of the
cave shrines and it is believed that they developed over a considerable period of time,
from the second century BC to around the 10th century A.D.! Their affiliations can be

2. Ajanta Ellora caves
The Ajanta Caves are rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the second
sanctuary century BCE to about four hundred and eighty CE in Aurangabad district of
Maharashtra state of India. The Ajanta Caves houses some of the ancient monasteries
of India. It also comprises worship-halls of different Buddhist traditions. You will also
see some paintings that depict the past lives and rebirths of the Buddha. There are some
rock-cut sculptures of Buddhist deities in the caves.
3. Bhimbetka Caves
The caves are said to be a shelter home for pandavas during their exile. The caves are
situated inside Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh. Also the caves are
declared as on the few world heritage sites in India. Beautiful paintings can be seen on
the wall of the caves depicting animals, dancing figures and many more.
4. Badami caves of Karnataka
These are the complex of hindu and jain cave temples. The temple is located in Badami,
a town in the Bagalkot district in the northern part of Karnataka, India. It is a
quintessential example of architecture. There are four caves in which every cave has
different carvings and distinct subjects.
5. Elephanta caves
It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cave is dedicated to the lord Shiva. The cave
is a mix of Hindu and Buddhist style. The name of the cave is given by the Portuguese
who discovered the statue of an elephant in the cave.
