Don’t Let an Old Flame Die

1. Is job enrichment appropriate solution to this situation? Explain your answer.

- Yes, job enrichment would be the most appropriate step to take for Brenda, in the
stated situation we can see her that she is very competent and is ready to take upon
challenges, and still does her job properly even when pressured. But Brenda is
recently feeling bored, stressed and unenthusiastic about her job, and this is a large
problem for excellent employees, like how authors can go into slump, Brenda is
about to enter that stage and may become incompetent and may lose her focus and
sharpness in her work. So the answer would be to regain her motivation back by
giving her more opportunities, like higher level task and duties where she can show
off her skills and at the same time hone or nurture it and learn new things.

2. Identify how you would redesign Brenda’s job to enrich it. Write both a description
and a mission statement for Brenda’s new job

- By taking the job enrichment approach, Brenda will be promoted to a higher

position, meaning aside from moving to a new job her job description will also be
changed.

Duties:

- Full supervisory responsibility for the other CSA Trainer, Chris.

- Preparing and monitoring the budget for CSA Training
- Designing and implementing additional CSA training program as needed.
- Leading the CSA Advisory Committee
- Providing back-up CSA training as needed
- Managing the CSA training and improve as indicated

Mission: Giving Brenda the authority to manage the CSA training function to
provide quality training on a timely basis to all branch offices.
3. Identify how you would implement or go about completing this process. Think
about how you would deal with the following: Brenda, Brenda’s co-workers, other
departmental staff. Branch operations personnel, and the personnel department (for
job evaluation) create and implementation plan.

Brenda – First Bill should invite Brenda for a meeting, then discuss her the
approach he will be using and what benefits she can gain by having a job
enrichment. Bill should also explain to her properly why this approach would work
and how her duties and responsibilities will be changed and how he would enlist her
in the transition.

Brenda’s Co-workers – The one who would be affected the most will be the newly
hired CSA trainer Chris, Brenda should explain to him what the plan will be and
how the workflows would be changed along with reporting relationships. Brenda
should also consider this as an opportunity to ask if Chris have other problems or
concern regarding the transition.

Other Departmental staff - Since Brenda will be having a new job she should
inform or explain to her colleagues and staff what the changes will be and what are
the expected result from the decision.

Branch Operations Personnel – Bill should schedule a meeting with the key
managers and explain to them what will be his whole plan and what the respective
changes would be. Also taking this meeting as an opportunity to discuss the current
and recurring problems and develop effective solutions. Bill should also mention
how he will also guide and assist Brenda in handling or managing this issues once
the changes are made and implemented.

The Personnel Department – Bill should go and notify the Personnel department
that Brenda will be promoted to a higher position which means changing her job
design and description, and along with it is executing higher levels of tasks and
responsibilities that also requires a higher skill set. Meaning Brenda’s salary would
also be adjusted, which that is equivalent to the job she will be taking.
Implementation:
1. Present the offer to Brenda and enlist her agreement
2. Notify the Personnel Department for transfer, and develop the new job design
and description
3. Notify the employees, specially Chris and Brenda’s staff
4. Begin teaching Brenda the tasks and duties she will be having before she gets
transferred
5. Meeting with the Branch Operations and explaining the changes to be executed
6. Finish the transition process, and Bill should still continue to teach and support
Brenda after the transfer.
