Lesson Plan in English

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. Define Idiomatic Expressions


b. Analyze the different idiomatic expressions
c. Reflect on a folktale given
d. Create a Story Sequence Chart

II. Subject Matter


A. Topic: Idiomatic Expressions
B. Reference: English for Cultural References 8 pages 6-9

III. Learning Tasks:


A. Daily Activities

“Good morning class,” “Good morning, ma’am”

“Let us pray first.” (One student will lead the prayer)

“So how’s your day?” “It’s good ma’am”

B. Motivation

The class will form three groups; each will be given sets of idiomatic expressions and they will
match the meaning on the folder given to them.

They will come up with the following:


1. Apple of my eye- one’s favorite person
2. Bite the dust- to die
3. Rub each other’s elbow/noses- to meet or be with someone socially
4. Wolf in sheep’s clothing- a person in disguise
5. Apple pie order- arranged very neat or perfect

Analysis

Look up- search for in a book or reference

in her dance, “Look up! Shake shake shake)
“Do you know her and her dance?”

picture and dance/sing her famous song)

“So, what do you think is the reason why Ryzza “Because she is finding/searching something up

Abstraction

Take it easy- be calm
Hit the books- review or study
Catch some rays- sunbathe
Speaking of the devil- someone that you are
talking about comes

“Do you class get it?” “Yes, ma’am.”

“So now, we will proceed on our Literary (Students will read the title: Even the flies and
Selection. It is actually an African Folktale.” Spiders)
(The teacher will show the title)

“Now, I want to ask you students, who among you (Students will respond by raising their hands.)

Generalization

“So now, I want you to answer these questions.” (Students volunteer to give their answers)

1. What tragic incident happened to the
family of the prince?
2. How did the fly and the spider help the
prince survive his close encounter with
death?
3. What lesson in life did the prince learn at
the end?

Application

Explain- “There is a purpose for everything (Students volunteer to give their answers)
God made..even the flies and the spiders.” Be
able to cite real-life situations to support your
answer.

Evaluation

“So now, I want you to create a Story Sequence (The students will answer the activity)
about the folktale”
(The teacher shows a sample of a Story Sequence
guide)

Assignment

For our assignment, I want you to read our next (Students will give various insights)
selection, “Telephone Conversation” by Wole
Soyinka page 24 on English for Cultural
References 8
