EDITORIAL
Dear Friends,
Welcome to today’s newsletter,
dedicated to the new releases of
our company for the month of May.
I hope that it provides you with a bit
of a distraction, towards something,
for us modellers, more pleasing and
closer to our hearts.
First off, I would like to come back
to our virtual contest, the Quaranti-
ne Bunny Cup. It enjoyed quite a bit
more success than we had anticipa-
ted, but it also proved to be more la-
bour intensive than expected, and it
indicated that time, in the middle of a
pandemic induced quarantine, runs
somehow differently from normal
time. We received an almost endle-
ss supply of comments and suggesti-
ons, the vast majority of which were
positive and helpful. In terms of ob-
jections, there were two that were
a recurring theme. The first con-
cerned the significance of photo-
graphic skills in the results, and
the author’s ability to manipu-
late Photoshop. This objection
is completely relevant, and has
a simple answer - yes, that’s true. If
this type of event is to continue, it
would be necessary to compete with
decent photography equipment ca-
pable of taking quality photographs.
Your chances of success will be dec-
reased by snapping a pic with your
cell on the kitchen counter, even if
you build a model that the mode-
lling gods would be impressed by.
I am fairly convinced that modifying
a model to any great extent in Pho-
toshop would be counterproductive
. I just don’t think that a poorly built
model can be changed to the point
where it would be made that much
better. But good photographic skills
will certainly be needed. The wi-
nners in such contests will be well
photographed well built models.
You can like it or complain about it,
but come up with something better,
because otherwise, that’s how it will
stay.
The other objection is a little tou-
gher to deal with. In the first contest,
we depended solely on the number
of ‘likes’ to determine the winners.
It appears that some of those who
entered intensively dedicated their

time to the accumulation of ‘likes’.
Originally, I assumed that this would
not be an issue. I figured that mo-
dellers would ask their buddies for
‘likes’, and that they would check
out the contest on the web, and
the contest would get more hits
that way. To top it off, they would-
n’t just be limited to liking their fri-
ends’ entry. They could lend their
support to other entries, as well.
It’s a good thought. Unfortunately,
it appears that we are on the naïve
side, in terms of users of Facebook.
The reality of this situation, turns
out, is more complicated than that.
We’re not talking only about tole-
rable requests for support here. We
looked into this, and we strongly
suspect that there was some barte-
ring going on in the quest for more
likes, and that some may have even
been paid for in some way. That
would be something that I cannot
put under the category of compe-
ting fairly. It smacks of doping, and
other unethical practices in high le-
vel sports. It’s also not something
that we will support, and for that re-
ason, the next such event, planned
for June, will be built on the basis of
a judging commission.
In April, the modelling world was
rocked by the demise of Wingnut
Wings. WNW is an intriguing tale
of huge investment, hope, and well
executed work. It also opened up
a new segment of the market. That
is something that few are able to
accomplish in any industry. Come
what may out of this whole thing,
Wingnut Wings models will not be
soon forgotten.
Let’s turn our attention to the new
releases for the month of May. We
are coming out with five new kits, the
most interesting of which appears to
be the Bf 108 in 1:32nd scale. This is
a ProfiPACK kit. As you are proba-
bly well aware, this is a kit who’s
development was undertaken by
another company, and was never
finalized before the moulds were
put up for sale. We bought those
moulds and are releasing the kit
under our own label. We also pur-
chased the boxart for this item. This
kit, under the original label and with
the original boxart, was introduced
and partially advertised before. We
are planning to release this kit as
per our established practices, mea-
ning that it will first be released as
a ProfiPACK kit, then as a Wee-
kend Edition kit, and finally as one,
or perhaps more, Limited Edition
special boxings. The first, being re-
leased this month, is the ProfiPACK
version. It follows the standard
norm established for the ProfiPACK
line, meaning it includes photoe-
tching, masks, and five decal op-
tions. The kit also includes a resin
wood propeller option. The reason
that this is rendered in resin is that
a wooden prop option was not part
of the plastic components, but is re-
levant to many marking options.
We have two ProfiPACK kits ready
for the month of May. The second
is a 1:72nd scale Fokker D.VII(Alb),
a license produced version built by
Albatros. Here, the rendition of the
kit also adheres to the established
norm, and includes photoetched
brass, masks, and a large decal she-
et. A section of the decals contains
the lozenge patterns, and these are
rendered with filters that accent the
structure under the fabric and a cer-
tain degradation of its colours. I am
convinced that this attribute, applied
to the decals and first used in Febru-
ary’s Du Doch Nicht!! kit, will be, at
the very least, a pleasant characte-

ristic of the decals. And speaking of
the Du Doch Nicht!! kit, the first pre-
ssing sold out very quickly, and the
second one was stocked this week.
Also stocked with it was the second
run of the ProfiPACK Bf 109G-10Erla.
The next kit to be released this
month is the Lysander. This is
a 1:48th scale Limited Edition kit,
and has its origins in the Gavia kit,
and has been released by Eduard
several times as both ProfiPACK and
Limited Edition models. The kit has
certain features that show the age
of the model, and these are com-
pensated for by inclusion of photo-
etched brass and resin details. The
relatively large decal sheet offers
markings for a mix of British and Fi-
nnish Lysanders from varying time
periods throughout its career. All of
the previous releases of this kit sold
out very quickly, and I have no rea-
son to believe that it will be any dif-
ferent with this kit.
We are releasing a Spitfire Mk.VIII
in the Weekend line, and both mar-
king options are dedicated to the
Royal Australian Air Force. These are
attractive schemes, a fact that you
can easily confirm for yourself el-
sewhere in this newsletter. The same
can be said for the final kit release
of the month, a 1:144th scale MiG-
-21bis in the now-bagged SUPER44
line. All of the marking options hail
from the 1:48th scale version of this
airplane, and, simply put, are damn
nice, too.
In order to fully take advantage of
our printing capacity, we are prepa-
ring another three classic type de-
cal sheets, each containing four or
five options. Two are dedicated to
the Spitfire Mk.VIII, and the third to
the P-38F from Tamiya. All of these,
being slated for June release, are in
1:48th scale.
As is usual, the majority of new
items being released are in the acce-
ssory department. These include de-
tail sets, masks, photoetched brass,
Brassins, and increasingly, decal she-
ets. Among the brass accessories,
I would like to draw your attention
to the two sets for the American
aircraft carrier USS Langley, de-
signed for the 1:350th scale Trum-
peter kit. The Langley is an ama-
zing ship owing to her historical
significance, and this will account
for the interest generated by her
in the modelling community. We
have two new sets in 1:35th, for the

T-72A (Trumpeter) and the R35
French Light Tank (Tamiya). For the
R35, we also have a mask set. In
1:72nd scale, we have sets for the
F-14A (Academy) and the Hurrica-
ne Mk.IIc (Arma Hobby), which are
kits that have recently been making
waves among modellers. Both also
have mask sets being produced for
them. Masks and ZOOM sets are
also being produced for the He 162
by Special Hobby. The ZOOM set is
being released on its own because
that little squirt doesn’t offer up
much of an opportunity to supply
anything else that would go beyond
a ZOOM etch. The same can be said
for the T-33 from Platz. We have
also prepared some mask sets for
two Skyhawks from the Polish firm
HOBBY2000. These are repackaged
Fujimi A-4M and OA-4M kits. Toge-
ther with the new MiG-21bis kit in
1:144th, we have designed a newly
conceptualised photoetched detail
set. In 1:48th scale, I would like to
point out the set for Airfix’s Tiger
Moth, as well as for their Hunters
Mk. F.4 and F.5. There is also a set
to go with our new release of the
Lysander, the same as for the Mo-
delsvit Bf 109C and Kinetic EA-6B.
All three of the latter mentioned kits
have ZOOM sets available for them.
We have one set in 1:32nd, and it is
designed to go with our newly re-
leased ProfiPACK Bf 108. It also has
a mask set being released for it in
the TF style, and this includes interi-
or and exterior canopy framing. May
has four new Big Eds coming out.
There three decal sheets, too. These
cover lozenge pattern fabric of diffe-
rent versions for the Fokker D.VII in
1:72nd scale.
In the Brassin line, we have a coc-
kpit set out for the MiG-21PF, and
a separately available SK seat for the
same kit in 1:72nd. Please note, the
seat is being labelled as ‚MiG-21PF
Ejection Seat‘, not as ‚SK Seat‘. The-
re are three new LooK sets, one for
the Tornado GR 1 (Revell/Eduard),
the P-51D-5 (Airfix) and the Bf 108 in
1:32nd, the kit being released by us
this month. Two new LookPlus sets
are out for our P-51s, versions D-5
and D-10. For the 1:32nd Bf 108, the-
re are also two new wheel sets, and
that resin propeller, representing
the wooden unit. As is usual, there
are also different weapons sets be-
ing released, in different scales. For
May, these are AIM-54C Phoenix mi-
ssiles and AIM-9Xs in 1:32nd, JP233
dispensers in 1:48th, and HVARs in
1:72nd. Once again, there are no
new Big Sins for the month, and the
reason for this is that the production
capacity of the Brassin department
is being stretched to the max.

Colour additions in red and yellow on the upper wing surfaces and the red band around the fuselage were temporary used during air combat maneuvering exercises on two pairs of aircraft.
The rest of the schemes is consistent with factory deliveries from 1975 when it was delivered to the 1st Fighter Regiment. After being upgraded to MiG-21MFN standard during 2000, it was one
of the last to serve at Caslav in 2005.

On July 1st, 1942 Erprobungskommando 19 was formed, who‘s task it was to evaluate the suitability of the Bf 109 and Fw 190 as a fighter-bomber under tropical conditions. The unit was mann-
ed by two instructor/pilots and six pilots that came from Erganzungsgruppe JG 27 and JG 53. This unit was disbanded after a few months and their assets were distributed among other units.
Aircraft of EKdo 19 carried the so-called desert scheme, composed of RLM78/79, and also carried a white fuselage band with a white ‚E‘ on the rudder.

VF-8, USS Intrepid (CV-11), Summer 1943

Second unit marked as VF-8 was established on June 1st, 1943 under the command
of LCdr. William M. Collins Jr. and was dispatched for the operational training
aboard USS Intrepid which was sailing in the Caribbean Sea at that time. Tri-color
camouflage, introduced as of January 5th, 1943, for the application on the aircraft
deployed to Pacific, composed of Non-specular Sea Blue, Semi-gloss Sea Blue,
Intermediate Blue and Non-specular White, was applied slightly differently than on
the other aircraft. National markings featuring the red outline were introduced as of
June 28th, 1943.
