rotate the anode of rotating anode X-ray tubes of 1.5 MHU, 1.0 MHU, 750 kHU, 600kHU, and 400 kHU,
etc. made by Shimadzu (Circlex) and other manufacturers. Install and adjust the Starter following the
steps described in this manual.
When installing the Starter, follow the steps in Section 2 "Installation and Connection" and Section 3
"Performance Check and Installation Adjustments". Section 4 "Detailed Adjustments" describes the
adjustments that were made in the factory. Section 6 “Settings for P324DK and P364DK Tube”
describes setting P type X-ray tube. It is not necessary to adjust the items described in Section 4,
excepting when some troubles have occurred or readjustments are needed after circuit boards or parts
have been exchanged.
In addition, NEXSH board is used instead of CPU board for SA-60 which is shipped after July 2008.
For SA-60 with NEXSC board, please refer to Section Appendix B “Performance Checking and
Installation Adjustments (for NEXSC)” instead of Section 3 “Performance Checking and Installation

reducing the rotating noise, long-lasting bearings, and preventing layer short of stator
coils. Confirm the output voltage of SA-60 by following the instruction below.
With the terminal TB1 on POWER RELAY board in SA-60, measure the output voltage
between X and Y which connects to the corresponding tube. Make sure to use probe of
100:1 and oscilloscope when measuring. (Do not use digital tester because it cannot
measure the value correctly)
Also, for time range, select an appropriate value such as to display all the waveforms of
high-speed rotation on startup. Wave forms will be like the figure below, so read the
voltage of flat part of an arrow.

Connect Digital Multi Tester to Ji connector pin between 1 and 4 on INVERTER
SA-60 board to measure the Charge Voltage after 3 seconds when High Speed
Rotation begins.

Ji1 4pin

Ji1 1pin

Adjust the startup voltage by following the procedure (1) and (2) below to set the
measurement value as follows.
Power supply frequency 50Hz area 490-510V

Power supply frequency 60Hz area 480-500V

*Note1) As [Power supply frequency] equals to [Frequency when fluoroscopy] for

SA-60, high-speed rotation on startup in fluoroscopy snapshot mode
becomes quicker in 60Hz area so the optimal startup voltage is different.
Also, make sure to adjust that the braking voltage should be 220V +/-
5%.

(1) Changing Wire Connection of T1 Output Tap

With standard settings, "1HS" is connected to the "465" tap. If the voltage is out of the

specified range shown above, however, change the wire connection to "500" or "520".
This change enables the voltage adjustment between +12% and +8%.
(2) Changing Wire Connection to T1 Connection Terminal
If startup voltage cannot be set in the specified range in procedure (1), change one
terminal from which should have been input to connect L1.
(For example: When power supply voltage is 208V, connect to P220 though it should
have connected to P208. By doing this, it can reduce about 5% of the output.)
M516-E306 3-11
In addition, this connection change affects breaking voltage so do not change connection
terminal over two stages.
*Note2) The oscilloscope for measuring voltage should be revised within a year.
In addition, confirm if the measurement value is corrected with +15V
terminal on the board just in case before using the oscilloscope.

3.10.2 Confirmation of output voltage (output voltage between X and Y of high-speed rotation on
startup) to VARIAN 1.5MHU tube

This section describes cautions for configuration of parameters for the combination of
VARIAN 1.5MHU Tube G-1582BI and G-1593BI, and Starter SA-60.
Confirm the output voltage between X and Y as section 3.7.1. Adjust the startup voltage

as following the procedure (1) and (2) below to set the measurement value as follows.
Power supply frequency 50Hz area 500-530V
Power supply frequency 60Hz area 480-510V

*Note 1) As [Power supply frequency] equals to [Frequency when fluoroscopy] for

SA-60, high-speed rotation on startup in fluoroscopy snapshot mode

becomes quicker in 60Hz area so the optimal startup voltage is different.
Also, make sure to adjust that the breaking voltage should be 275V +/-

5%.

(1) Changing Wire Connection of T1 Output Tap (In case of that VARIAN tube is the first
tube)
With standard settings, "1HS" is connected to the "465" tap. If the voltage is out of the
specified range shown above, however, change the wire connection to "520" or "500".
This change enables the adjustment between +12% and +8%.
(2) Changing Wire Connection of T1 Input Tap "L1" Terminal
If startup voltage cannot be set in the specified range in procedure (1), change one
terminal from which should have been input to connect L1. (For example: When power
supply voltage is 208V, connect to P220 though it should have connected to P208. By

doing this, it can reduce about 5% of the output.)

In addition, this connection change affects breaking voltage, so do not change
connection terminal over two stages.
(3) Changing "1BS" Terminal Wire Connection of T1 Output Tap (In case of that VARIAN
tube is the first tube)
M516-E306 3-12
"1BS" is connected to "220" tap for standard setting, but change the wire connection to
"240" or "200". This change enables the voltage adjustment between -10% and +9%.

*Note 2) The oscilloscope for measuring voltage should be revised within a year.
In addition, confirm if the measurement value is corrected with +15V
terminal on the board just in case before using the oscilloscope.
*Note 3) Any changes made to terminal L1 connections on the T1 input tap affect
the output voltages of all the X-ray tubes (between X and Y during startup
by high-speed rotation). Check the output voltages of all the X-ray tubes
being used.

M516-E306 3-13
3.10.3 Confirmation of output voltage applied to VARIAN 600 kHU tube (between X and Y
during startup by high-speed rotation)

This note applies to setting conditions for systems that combine VARIAN 600 kHu G-292
and G-297 tubes and SA-60 starter.
Check the output voltage between X and Y, as described in section 3.10.1.
Adjust the startup voltage by following steps (1) and (2) below so that the measurement
value is within the following range.
Power supply frequency 50 Hz area: 490 to 530 V
Power supply frequency 60 Hz area: 480 to 530 V
*Note 1) For the SA-60, [Power supply frequency] is equal to [Frequency when fluoroscopy].
This means that high-speed rotation during startup in fluoroscopy snapshot mode is
quicker in 60 Hz areas than in 50 Hz areas, so the optimal startup voltage is
different.
(1) Changing Wire Connection of T1 Output Tap "1HS" Terminal (when VARIAN tube is the
first tube)
With standard settings, "1HS2" is connected to the "465" tap. If the voltage is out of the
specified range shown above, however, change the wire connection to "385". This
change enables making voltage adjustments down to -17%.
(2) Changing Wire Connection of T1 Input Tap "L1" Terminal

If startup voltage is not within the specified range, even after the measures described in (1)
above, change the input connection to terminal L1 by one from what it should be.
(Example: For a power supply voltage of 208 V, change the connection from P208 to P220.

This makes it possible to decrease output an additional 5% or so.)

However, changing the connection will affect braking voltage. Therefore, do not change
the connection by more than two levels.
*Note 2) Measure voltage using an oscilloscope that has been calibrated within the last year.
To make sure oscilloscope measurement values are correct, measure the +15 V
terminal on the circuit board before using the oscilloscope.
*Note 3) Any changes made to terminal L1 connections on the T1 input tap affect the output
voltages of all the X-ray tubes (between X and Y during startup by high-speed
rotation). Check the output voltages of all the X-ray tubes being used.

Appendix B. Performance Checking and Installation Adjustments (For NEXSC Board)

DANGER

Electric charges are still remaining in the electrolytic capacitors of the power supply circuit for five
minutes after power off. During this time do not touch the circuit as there is danger of electric
shock.

Note also the capacitor is charged during turned on.

CAUTION

1 Change the tap connections of the following transformer in accordance with the local power
voltage.
Refer to Section 2.6 of this Installation Manual.

2 Before changing the connections at <T1> and <T2>, turn off power. The power-off can be
confirmed by turning off of LED1 on MOTHER-SA60 board.

NOTE

In the factory, the starter is not set or adjusted in combination with X-ray tubes used in hospitals.
When installing the starter, specifically set and adjust the starter to combine it with the X-ray
tubes actually used in the hospital as described above.

B.1 Checking the power supply voltage

(1) Close the knife switch or circuit breaker of the power supply facility.
(2) After closing the circuit breaker in SA-60, turn on power for the X-ray controller. Then, LED L1 on
MOTHER-SA60 will come on.
(3) Connect a tester or voltmeter that can measure AC 100V between Pin 3 (L0) and Pin 5 (L100) of
connector J1 on MOTHER-SA60.
(4) Check that the tester or voltmeter reads 105V±5V about 2 seconds after power has been turned
on.
(5) If the voltmeter registration is not within the range of 105V ± 5V, check the connections
described in Section 2.6.

M516-E306 B-1
B.2 Initial setting entries for the starter
Information on each X-ray tube is stored in EEPROM of NEXSC board through initial setting
entries.
Store the initial setting items needed for the operating conditions of the apparatus.

B.2.1 Initial setting items

The following items must be initially set according to the operating conditions of the apparatus.
The execution order of the mode A, B, C, and D will be described in SectionB.2.3.
A. Absolutely required settings General Mode

1. X-ray tube anode code: designating an X-ray tube anode code for each X-ray tube No.
・For X-ray tubes made by Shimadzu, designate an X-ray tube anode code for each X-ray tube
No. referring to the X-ray tube type code table in Table 3.2.2.
・For X-ray tube type designation code No 26, No.30 are Q(QUICK) stator, in that case the
X-ray tube anode code is 7, please set carefully.

・For X-ray tubes made by other manufacturers, designate the code referring to Table 3.2.3 if
the code is listed in the Table. If the code is not listed in the Table, designate the code d or
E.

2. Choosing 'for Q (QUICK) stator' or 'for R (REGULAR) stator'

0 [OFF] : for R (REGULAR) stator
1 [ON] : for Q (QUICK) stator
Choose correct one and confirm it.

B. When using other manufacturer's X-ray tubes that are not listed in the Table:
Nonstandard Tube Mode (d, E mode)

1. Other manufacturer's X-ray tube anode code: designating an X-ray tube anode code [d, E]
