Assignment7

(a) Major project risks should be identified and assessed to establish their probability and
consequences for the project. For risks which are probable and potentially serious, plans to
avoid, manage or deal with that risk when it arises should be made. Discuss the risks, the
probability of the risk arising and the effects of these risks.

Risk Type Possible Risk

Technology The database used in the system cannot process as many

transactions per second as expected.
Software components which should be reused contain
defects which limit their functionality.

People It is impossible to recruit staff with the skills required. Key

staffs are ill and unavailable at critical times.
Required training for staff is not available.

Organizational The organization is restructured so that different

management are responsible for the project.
Organizational financial problems force reductions in the
project budget.

Tools The code generated by CASE tools is inefficient.

CASE tools cannot be integrated.

Requirements Changes to requirements which require major design

rework are proposed.
Customers fail to understand the impact of requirements
changes.

Estimation The time required to develop the software is

underestimated.
The rate of defect repair is underestimated.
The size of the software is underestimated.

Both the probability and the assessment of the effects of a risk may change as more
information about the risk becomes available and as risk management plans are implemented.
Once the risks have been analyzed and ranked, you should assess which are most
significant. Judgment must depend on a combination of the probability of the risk arising and the
effects of that risk.
