Task 1- Written Assignment

1.0 Introduction

The government has constantly acknowledged the important role of quality teachers
in nation building and in ensuring that the educational goals are met. This is because quality
teachers are essential in order to provide quality education to the children of the country.
Fortunately, the teaching profession has a wide range of career path to enable teachers to
expand their horizon. In Malaysia, there are three types of career path in the Education
Service Officer which are the ‘Laluan PdP’ , ‘Laluan Kepimpinan’ dan ‘ Laluan Kepakaran
Pendidikan’. For the purpose of this writing, I chose the Laluan PdP as my career route plan.

1.1 First stage (Grade 41, Executor)

In this first stage which is Grade 41, the role that I should have is the executor. As a
novice English Teacher, I should be able to understand and execute my roles and duty as
well as the responsibilities with guidance and supervision from an experienced teacher from
the school. Other than that, I am expected to be the learning facilitator for students through
planning and execution of teaching and learning of English that is able to attract attention
and interest to give the purpose of learning. In addition, my help in executing action research
with experienced English Teacher is needed in order to improve the process of English
Learning. Furthermore, during this stage I should be able to record data accurately to
monitor on my students’ performance as well as giving them feedbacks so they are able to
know what are they expected to do, thus, it will guide them to be an independent learner.
However, it may take a longer time for me to do my duties and responsibilities mentioned,
due to the fact that I am still adjusting and adapting myself as a new English Teacher.
Therefore, I should seek for guidance from experienced teachers to help me understand and
do my duties accurately.

For co-curriculum, I will help teachers in planning activities and materials needed.
Other than that, I should also execute the activity planned. I need to evaluate the students’
performance in the co-curriculum for records and analyse on the evaluation of the students
for improvements for the student’s performance.

Other than that, I also need to be involved in professional learning by attending

meetings related to academic performance/school achievement or official duty given by the
principal. It will help me to be more professional and improve my knowledge as a teacher.
Not only that, I also need to receive guidance to improve my teaching and learning process
by attending ‘Program Pembangunan Guru Baharu (PPGB) DG 41’.During this stage, I also
want to become the members of the English committee and involving myself as the

mentioned is still unfamiliar to most students compared to conventional teaching and
learning approaches. Students are faced with the problem of adapting to learning strategies
and time management to complete a task (Tawfik Trueman & Lorz, 2014). Therefore, as
Grade 44 teacher, I should be able to implement research and investigation on English
learning to identify the strength and weaknesses of the implementation of the learning
approaches mentioned to enable me to take actions. Furthermore, due to the diversity of
culture and religion among students, it is crucial for me to be able to apply an understanding
of religious and cultural diversity in English learning in addition to the needs of differentiated
learning in every student. Therefore, I am expected to choose and combine effective
methodology teaching and learning to identify students’ potential. In co-curriculum, I should
be able to design and implement activities integrated into the field of specialization with
guidance to support student mental, physical and social development.

In the professional development, in this stage I should be able to give guidance and

the activities from time to time. In addition, I should also be able to lead the school in
designing co-curriculum integrated into the field of specialization.

For professional development, I should be able to develop learning community and

able to give guidance service and mentoring for colleagues in school as well as in the state
level. In order for me to have an effective collaboration, I should hold a Professional
Learning Community (PLC) where the teachers work collaboratively and continuously
undergo inquiry and action research to identify the students’ performance, hence, able to
take action to improve the students’ performance holistically. Through PLC, it is in line with
the fourth shift in Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013-2025) to inculcate exemplary
excellence on the part of their fellow workers under the initiative of transforming the teaching
profession into a profession of choice. Moving on, I should be able to give specialize service

In addition, I need to analyse the result of the students’ assessments as well as to evaluate
the effectiveness of the activities in teaching and learning to improve students’ performance
and the activities.

In professional development, I am capable to plan Komuniti Pembelajaran

Professional throughout the year and prepare tactical plan in the state level. It is to inculcate
professional qualities in teachers and eventually international cooperation for teacher
