The PalmSim.ini file controls many of the settings in the Palm OS
Cobalt 6.1 Simulator, including ones that will let you start PalmSim
in a preferred configuration. This file can be edited in any text
editor, including Notepad.
Hitting Ctrl-Shift-Alt-T will add a Terminal icon to the status bar.
This will let you access the Binder Shell, a command-line prompt that
gives access to the internals of Palm OS Cobalt. Type "help" in the
terminal window to learn more about the Binder Shell, and tap on the
Terminal icon again to hide the shell window.
Hitting Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L toggles between landscape and portait
orientations. On screen resolutions which don't support landscape
orientation, this can make the status bar appear oddly.
This version of the Simulator supports skins, using the same format as
the skins used with the Palm OS Emulator. A sample skin is provided
for a generic 320x480 device. To set a skin, use the
Settings/Display/Skin/Load... menu item.
If you have PRC or PDB files you want installed into memory every time
the simulator starts, create an AutoLoad folder in the directory that
has the PalmSim.exe file, and put your files there.
If you want to change the ROM image used by the Simulator, you can
1) Edit the PalmSim.ini file to change the ROM= line to point to a new
file.
2) Edit the PalmSim.ini file to remove the ROM= line, then you'll be
able to pick a new ROM when you restart the Simulator.
3) Hold the Shift key while starting the Simulator, then pick a new
ROM image when prompted.
4) Drag the ROM file to the PalmSim.exe icon to start it with a new
ROM image.
When using the EFIGS ROM, if you want to set a preferred locale so you
don't have to pick a language each time you start PalmSim, you can
edit the PalmSim.ini file, adding the line
PreferredLocale=<locale>
where <locale> is one of
"enUS" - US English
"frFR" - French
"itIT" - Italian
"esES" - Spanish
"deDE" - German
To bypass the time and date setting screen, you can add the line
AppCreator=lnch
to the PalmSim.ini file. This will cause it to start the launcher by
default. You can change the four-letter code to specify another
program if needed.
