1. Why might the study of philosophy be particularly important to education?
Teachers are mentors and play an active role inculcating independent thinking in students. As teacher we must have a teaching philosophy. Learners always look up to their teacher and therefore, it becomes necessary for you to have thoughts to inspire them.
Specific reasons why you should study Philosophy of Education
1. Helps to translate the path of Teaching Philosophy has been defined as a
Learning map, which provides directions to move ahead. 2. Affects the society Teachers are termed as the future makers of the community. They can leave profound impact on students and help them make independent decisions in the future. 3. To be in their shoes By learning philosophy, a teacher would be able to view and analyze from the perspective of their students, and would also be able to know how students perceive their actions. 4. To avoid being judgmental Also teaches a teacher the personality of each student. As educators, we are required to teach creativity, autonomy, and curiosity to all students without compromising their intellectual level. 5. To teach the concept of unification Philosophy also teaches about unifying each pupil and the teacher as one body to ensure harmony, through this, teachers can understand how to deal with students and unite them as one. 6. The Verdict Through philosophy, you can ensure that your student not only retains his academic knowledge from all his completed grades but also develop a sense of humane values and ethics
2. Which branches of Philosophy would you want to emphasize in classroom. Why?
Metaphysics – study of what is real Epistemology- study of knowledge Axiology- study of nature of value and valuation Maybe I choose all of the three branches of philosophy such as Metaphysics, Epistemology and Axiology because according to what I have read, these three branches of philosophy cater all the positive aspects of reality that each individual must lean and must possess. I want to emphasize Metaphysics in my classroom in order for the students to learn the nature of everything around them that is present in the reality and how they exist and what are their benefits for the humanity and for them to develop their higher order thinking skills. I will also want to emphasize Epistemology in my classroom because I want my learners to know how they will learn something that they want to learn. What are those things to consider in learning something; I want them to know what knowledge is all about for them to discriminate the two situations; are they really acquiring knowledge? Or just gathering data or information? I also emphasize Axiology in my classroom because I want my learners to know how to give value everything that God has made for us.
