Virtual Concert Information

“Concert” videos are due next Friday, May 8th.

Dear Parents,

Since we won’t be able to stand on stage together to sing this year, I want to try to put together a “virtual concert”. You may
have seen some of these videos circulating the internet, and they can be so inspiring. Here is the piece our middle school is
working on, performed by all the music teachers from a school district in Georgia, and another piece performed by
elementary schoolers like our children. While I know these videos appear to be done live on Zoom, they are not. They take a
lot of video editing, which will only work if the students follow this one extremely important rule:

Students MUST be singing along with my practice track with headphones or earbuds on/in one or both ears. If they
are not listening to the track as they sing, the pitch and rhythm will not be aligned and the video will not be usable.

Here are some other notes about this process. Please read through completely before recording:

- If you have trouble accessing or opening the practice track, please let me know and I can send you the file directly.

- This “concert” video might involve multiple devices and support from you as the parents. It is relatively simple to
listen to music on a computer while you are filming yourself by using multiple browser tabs or programs, but if you
are using an iPad or phone to film, you might need to play the music to your child’s headphones from a second
device.

- Please avoid playing the music track live in the room while you are recording. I will be adding the backing track into
the video later on. Using headphones will produce a much clearer final product.

- The song does NOT need to be memorized. Please allow students to read the words from a paper or screen if
necessary

- Encourage your child to practice singing the song along with the track in the days leading up to filming

- Feel free to dress up a little! If you’re like me, you’ve been in sweatpants and jeans for weeks. It might be fun to
have an excuse to put on our concert shirts and dresses and do our hair :) No dress code, but please no pajamas.

- You may submit this video however it is convenient - through Flipgrid, by email, shared from drive etc. If you have
problems sharing the file, let me know and I will help.

- Consider your surroundings when you film. Consider what is behind the student, the lighting, and the acoustics. Try
to avoid background noise from TVs, family and pets when possible (I know it’s not always possible!)

- Encourage your child to smile and have fun in the video!

- Your child should sing the words highlighted in yellow. Parts that are greyed out are either solos or for a different
grade level.

- All students should submit one video with no solos. Please contact me for solo information.

- If your child submits a video which does not follow one or more guidelines or has other issues, your child’s grade will
not be affected, but I may not be able to include the video in the final project.

Parents, thank you in advance for your help with this project. I know it is a little extra work for everyone, but I am very much
hoping it will be worth it for the students to get to have a performance of sorts. If any part of this process is not possible for
your family, please let me know and I will help and accommodate however I can.

Yours,
Mrs. Tice
