Problem Statement:
Lives had been lost because of the flood. The flood may occur anytime during the four seasons
and in any area around the world. The impacts of flood disasters which we experienced
encouraged us to find the best solution for the natural hazard.

A detection and notification system for flood is hence proposed as a measure to minimize the
risk of damages caused by flood to lives and property. This system will alert the people through
mobile application about the flood so that they can be able to save their life and properties.

Motivation:
• In the past few days, people from the area of Sangli, Kolhapur, etc. faced the flood
disaster. It was really a bad experience for all the citizens in Sangli, Kolhapur, etc.

• Flood is an unavoidable natural disaster in Maharashtra, India, causing heavy flow of

traffic and can also cause severe damage to properties and lives.

Objective:
• To study the Existing Flood Detection and Alarming systems.

• To generate dataset in correspondence to the pre-trained model.

• To do custom training on the dataset generated.

• To detect early flood and alert people living around the flood zone.

• To show the places which are dangerous and which are safe from the flood with the
help of the map.
Literature Study:
Some applications built related to our work:

• Flood Detection using Sensor Network and Notification via SMS and Public Network

• Cloud computing-based flood detection and management system using WSANs

Existing Application:
• Flood detection and management system using sensors.

Innovation:
• Using a machine learning approach.
• Android application for alert purposes.

Methodology:

Step 1:
Collecting the previous few year’s data regarding the flood parameters such as rainfall, water
level, temperature, humidity, etc.

Step 2:
Training on the dataset collected using logistic regression algorithm.

Step 3:
Testing the machine learning model by providing the current values of flood parameters.
Step 4:
Using a machine learning model, if threshold values are matched then an alert message will send
to people living around the flood zone through mobile application.

When an alert message comes on mobile phones at that time the android application gets
activated and it shows an alert on application. During this, the mobile gets vibrated and ring alert
sounds. So that common people also get to know the alert. Through the mobile
application, dangerous and safe places will be shown with the help of map.
