Topic/Title of lesson: Dental Hygiene

CENTRAL FOCUS February is dental health month. Due to this we will be focusing on spelling and reading with the subject of dental health and
(CF) hygiene.
EU/EQ What is in the sensory box?
LEARNING Students will be able to recreate spelling words related to dental health.
OBJECTIVES
ASSESSMENT Formative Assessment - the recreation of words in shaving cream
STRATEGY

What resources and technology do you need to teach the lesson: What materials, technology will students need?
Shaving cream, toothbrushes, paper teeth, mouth poster, iPad, sensory Toothbrushes, shaving cream
box, Tooth Trouble by Jane Clarke and Cecilia Johansson, whiteboard,
dry erase markers.

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES

LAUNCH/ 1. Brush Your Teeth Song
Beginning (10 mins) 2. While the song is playing the students will be passing around the sensory box with multiple toothbrushes
inside.
a. After the song, we will guess what is inside the sensory box and take a look at the toothbrush to
discuss what was inside the sensory box.
LEARNING 1. Read Tooth Trouble and answer questions throughout the story
ACTIVITIES/ a. Do you think he will go to the dentist?

2. Spelling in shaving cream. Students have the option of using toothbrushes to write with.
a. Example words: Floss, Tooth, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Dentist.
CLOSURE/ 1. Complete the mouth chart with how many teeth you have lost and put it on the chart.
