products are very similar, you will gain only limited knowledge and inspiration for your own project, because most
products will lead to the same conclusions. It is likely that your inspiration will not only come from products that are
similar to what you have in mind. Quite different products may have features that inspire you as well.
● Review the high level example and the rubric (below) to ensure you have enough detail.
● Choose and j ustify which project plan will be the foundation for your project. You will incorporate elements from other

PMI analysis | Plus, Minus, Interesting

The command term a nalyze is defined as:

“Break down in order to bring out the essential elements or structure.”

In this task this means conducting a PMI analysis for the products you identified in your inspiration board.

Tips for analysis:
● Evidence that you looked closely at the site of the pin
● Identified properties of the products (size, shape, style, functional effectiveness, appropriate for fabric,
appropriate for your skill level, appropriateness for client)
● Bullet points but full sentences
● Explain why it is a strength/challenge/interesting point

Analyze strengths (plus) of the products. In your analysis clearly identify and explain specific features that
⊕  make the product successful.

● A great thing about the upcycled stuffed animals are that they are made out of reusable fabric and
felts. This makes it great for the environment. So instead of throwing old t shirts and socks you can
make them into easy stuffed toys. The instructions for most of them are really simple.
● Another thing that benefits me is the type of material. A lot of the stuffed animals used cotten and
flets. This is something that is accessible at school. The school also provides stuffing.
● Some of the benefits to the stuffed animals are the sturdy fabric. The cotton shirt I am using is fairly
sturdy so I'm all good on the fabric side.

Analyze weaknesses (minus) of the products. In your analysis clearly identify and explain specific features
⊖  that make the product less successful.

● Some of the upcycled stuffed animals require very specific measurements and fabrics, this could be
a possible challenge at school, my main cloth is from a cotton t shirt, but I can also make do.
● Another disadvantage is the skill level. Since I'm a beginner most of the sewing options are limited.
This would mean I would have to pick a simple sewing pattern.

Outline all take-aways (interesting) you have gained for your project by analysing the products.
ℹ  Take-aways are Ideas that are worth remembering for later in the project.

● An interesting thing about some of this upcycled stuffed animal, is that some have small
accessories like a scarf or a bone maybe even a blanket. I think these could be some great add- ons
for some of the stuffed animals.
● Another interesting thing about some stuffed animals could also be used for more practical
purposes like making them into pencil cases or adding pockets to them so you can put other things
in them.

Choose and justify a project plan

Select one of the products from your inspiration board and justify the choice for this product to design in the next
stage of the design cycle.

Your justification must address the following elements:

Why did you choose this product over the others in your inspiration board? Explain how it is appropriate for:
● your client
● the fabric you chose
● your skill level

Since I am making this for myself, I may add some simple colorful patterns or just cut out the colorful piece of my
cotton t shirt. I am also limited by my skill level. I’m not very advanced when it come to sewing, so I am definitely a
beginner.
