Where the Past Faces the Future

The PuLi Hotel and Spa is the first luxury hotel of its kind in Shanghai.
A new Urban Resort Concept that blends the immediacy and
convenience of being in Shanghai’s most central location with the
quiet, emotional indulgences of a peaceful, luxurious resort. It’s like
being away from it all and right in the heart of it, all at once.

This distinctive duality is something you will encounter and enjoy

throughout your stay. Simple and authentic touches of historic and
cultural reference sit side by side with new benchmarks in innovation,
leading edge technology and design that pervade throughout its
contemporary urban spaces.

The quality of the hotel’s facilities is only matched by its service

delivery. One that is handcrafted, genuine and complete and one that
allows you to relive the traditions of Shanghai’s famed hospitality.

The result is a uniquely new experience right in the very heart of one
of China’s most dazzling cities.

We hope you enjoy your stay.

Look Closer
At The PuLi, beauty is more than just skin deep.

Within our hotel you will find many items of design and decoration that
have unique stories to tell. All have been carefully selected because
of their historic and cultural value, and are placed throughout for
you to explore.

Some of these many beautiful pieces are featured in this very book to
give you a sense of the duality of past and present at The PuLi.

Look out for them in your rooms and throughout the property.

Brass Incense Burner

Within the living room area of your suite,
you may see this brass incense burner,
which has openwork featuring a stylised
“shou”, meaning longevity. They were
often used by the scholars to cultivate the
mood for the writing of calligraphy, making
poetry and painting.
Handcrafted Luxury
26 floors house 209 tastefully appointed rooms and 20 suites.

Whichever you choose as your residence during your stay with us,
you’ll discover the same sense of luxury, comfort and attention to
detail that embraces the hotel’s unique duality of combining
contemporary, handcrafted luxury with carefully selected items
and furnishings of historic reference.

Each room offers state of the art technology, 24-hour in-room dining,
concierge services, laundry and valet services. For full details of
facilities and amenities see our room descriptions at www.thepuli.com.

Timber Foo Dogs

A symbol of energy and value, timber foo
dogs whose origins date back as early
as Han Dynasty are often found as a pair.
They were commonly used to ward off evil
spirits and act as protectors of buildings.
You will find them safeguarding you across
the hotel and select guest rooms.
An Urban Retreat
The hotel’s 3rd floor accommodates The PuLi’s spa and wellness
offering and it is here that you can step even further away from the
bustle of the city that is on your doorstep.

The PuLi spa and wellness area exudes the same sense of luxury
that pervades the entire hotel and entices you inside its home for a
complete, sensorial experience of indulgence and pampering.

A superbly equipped state of the art gymnasium, sauna, steam

rooms, jacuzzi pools and the hotel’s Spa, operated by award-winning
Anantara Spa Group, is available to all hotel residents.

True to the hotel’s commitment to maintaining a sense of place in its

product, the spa’s treatment range retains a strong sense of culture
and context to the destination.

Five treatment suites, fully equipped with steam and shower rooms
are available for individuals or couples. Stretch aching limbs in our
lap infinity pool with views over JingAn Park.

Stoneware Headrest
Styled after Song dynasty Cizhou wares,
this headrest belongs to an era long before
the arrival of fluffy pillows. The hard pillow
supports the natural curvature of the neck
and was appreciated for their cooling effects
during hot summers as it allowed air to
circulate freely. Look for it in your washroom.
Taste, A Sensorial Experience
Jing’An, the hotel’s resolutely epicurean signature restaurant boasts
impressive views across JingAn park and an equally impressive
culinary offering.

Menus are built on tastes and designed using a partly modular

concept, allowing diners the unique opportunity of tailoring their
experience by selecting ingredients to create custom dishes from
the freshest produce available.

Explore new tastes and textures time and time again.

The 32-metre Long Bar offers you one of Shanghai’s “longest”

wine and champagne selections by the glass, sophisticated pre and
post dinner cocktails and refreshments throughout the day. The
atmosphere of the space and its outdoor terrace transforms in
character and mood through the day.

Porcelain Plate
Being an imperial emblem, the dragon with
five claws was a symbol of power which
started during Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).
The five-clawed dragon was depicted on
the Emperor’s belongings, from his robes
to his daily utensils, like this blue and white
porcelain plate.
The Club
The Club takes the exceptional service offering of The PuLi to
another level. One in which our club guests can seek a well-deserved
and exclusive retreat from the excitement of Shanghai.

The Club floors, located between 20th and 26th floors, offer all-day
refreshments, complimentary mini-bars, meeting facilities, 24-hour
butler service, laundry and pressing services, as well as sweeping,
spectacular views across the city’s famous skyline.

Here you can plan a busy day ahead, conduct an important meeting
in the privacy of the club’s meeting facilities or simply unwind next to
The Club Lounge’s peaceful fireplace that’s adorned with hundreds
of the interesting object you see opposite.

Bronze Mirror
Modelled after mirrors of Han Dynasty, this
might look like a shield, but it was an object
of vanity in the days before the glass mirror
existed, and also viewed as an object of
good fortune. You will see them on display
above the fireplace at The Club Lounge.
Inside and Outside
In its heydays it was known as the “Paris of the East”.

Today it is regarded as the economic capital of China and as a

melting pot where Eastern traditions meet Western modernity.
Arriving in Shanghai, you will immediately be overwhelmed by
the hustle and bustle of a thriving city: its colours, its people, its
futuristic skyscrapers.

Look a little closer though and you’ll discover that Shanghai’s

history is well preserved. It’s a city where old and new co-exist,
where tradition meets innovation, much like The PuLi.

This colourful city showcases everything from world-class music

performances and events, to the country’s most vibrant art scene,
to some of the finest shopping in the region.

Take a stroll down the picturesque Bund, see the greener side of
Shanghai at Yu Garden, or take in the awe-inspiring views from the
glass walkway at one of Shanghai’s tallest buildings, the Shanghai
World Financial Centre.
