Today, you will be watching a documentary called, “Pompeii: The Last Day”. This is a dramatized BBC
documentary about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, and the destruction of the city of Pompeii.

2. Choose 5 of your “significant objects” from above, and write at least five inferences about the
objects: what does the object tell us about the society?
For example, graffiti: Unlike today, graffiti was not forbidden, and was practically everywhere –
even in private homes. It seems like graffiti was an acceptable form of self-expression and
advertisement. It shows that the Romans expressed themselves with art, and also idolized
gladiators like TV stars.
Or, gold coins: Some Romans were wealthy, and coins were used as a currency. It shows that
they used coins similar to the ways that they are used today.
