Objectives:

1. To learn the use of Passive voice.

Estrategia de trabajo:

 Es IMPORTANTE leer la explicación teórica de los temas ya que para esta semana
empezaremos nuevo tópico grammatical y es un tema que requiere demasiada atención.
 Luego de leer la explicación teórica, desarrollar los ejercicios en inglés en su cuaderno o
carpeta de Aprende en Casa, enumerar hojas, escribir su nombre en la parte superior de
cada hoja, tomar foto legible SOLAMENTE DE LOS EJERCICIOS y enviar.
 En este taller, deberán TRADUCIR todas las oraciones. Quien no traduzca, obtendrá nota
valorativa equivalente a la mitad.

1. Passive Voice

Marco Teórico:

 La voz pasiva es una estructura gramatical que se utiliza cuando no se quiere enfatizar quién
o qué realiza la acción, sino que se enfatiza quién o qué la recibe.

A wife carrying competition is held in Finland.

En Finlandia se celebra una competición llevando a la esposa a cuestas.

The treasure was hidden on a island.

El tesoro fue escondido en una isla.

 En general, cuando hablamos es más común utilizar oraciones activas. Una

oración activa es aquella en la que el sujeto es el que realiza la acción. No obstante,

 también podemos utilizar oraciones pasivas. En una oración pasiva el sujeto de la frase no
es quién realiza la acción sino quién la recibe.

ORACIÓN ACTIVA:
Händel composed Messiah in 1741.
Händel compuso el Mesías en 1741.
En este ejemplo el sujeto (Händel) realiza la acción (componer), por lo tanto, es una oración activa.

ORACIÓN PASIVA:
Messiah was composed in 1741 by Händel.
El Mesías fue compuesto en 1741 por Händel.
En este ejemplo el sujeto de esta frase (el Mesías) no es el que realiza la acción sino el resultado.
Por lo tanto, es una oración pasiva.

El sujeto de una oración pasiva es el complemento directo o indirecto de una oración activa.

¿Cómo se construye una oración pasiva?

La oración pasiva se construye utilizando el verbo to be en el tiempo verbal correspondiente y
el verbo principal en participio pasado; es decir, o bien añadiendo la partícula –ed al verbo si
este es regular, o bien mirando el participio pasado en la lista de verbos irregulares si el verbo es
irregular.

Es IMPORTANTE tener en cuenta que, en la voz pasiva, la parte de la oración que cambia es el
verbo to be y todos los verbos principales van en participio.

Recuerden que para conjugar un verbo en participio se debe tener en cuenta si el verbo es irregular,
y se pasa a la tercera columna. Por ejemplo: go- went- GONE *** sleep- slept- SLEPT.

Cuando el verbo no aparece en la lista de verbos irregulares, se denominan verbos regulares,

entonces se le agrega –ED a la forma base del verbo. Ej.: watch- watchED **** study- studIED

En las oraciones transcritas de la voz activa a la voz pasiva, aquella categoría que solía ser el sujeto
en la oración activa, se convierte en OBJETO DIRECTO en la oración pasiva, que son los
siguientes:
