Q1. (a) What are the functions of cement in concrete mix? Describe the raw
materials used in the manufacture of Portland cement.

(b) Define the workability of fresh concrete. Explain with sketches the
type of workability tests that can be conducted in the laboratory.

(c) Discuss with illustration one destructive and one nondestructive test of
hardened concrete.

admixtures used in concrete.

(b) What is sieve analysis? Discuss how gap graded and continuous
aggregates affect workability and strength of concrete.

concrete structure built near seaside and elaborate the steps to be taken
to ensure the quality of hardened concrete is achieved.
