Choir Competition

COMPETITION GUIDELINES & MECHANICS

1. ELIGIBILITY & MEMBERSHIP:

1.1 The competition is open to all existing choirs from any part of the Philippines.

1.2 The choir must have a minimum of twenty five (25) and a maximum of thirty (30)
members (mixed choir/SATB) with ages 15 to 40 years old.

1.3 Choir Conductors, choir members and accompanist can only participate in one choir.

2. COMPETITION FORMAT:
Each choir is required to sing three (3) pieces:
2.1 CHOICE PIECES
1 Religious Song
1 Choice piece of your own
(Only one of these first two pieces maybe accompanied)

2.2 CONTEST PIECE

PATRIOTIC: BAYAN KO
Composed by Constancio de Guzman arranged for choir by Lucio D. San Pedro, should be
sung A’capella.

Note: All songs should be arranged in mixed choir. Medleys are prohibited.

3. PERFORMANCE &MUSIC REQUIREMENTS:

3.1 Singing time for each choir is limited to 12 minutes inclusive of entrances and exits of
performers.

3.2 All songs shall be memorized. Choreography is optional.

3.3 Accompaniment, if any, is limited to piano, electric piano, guitar or other instrument
specified in the musical score.

3.4 Use of any recorded accompaniment is not allowed.

3.5 The choirs should submit three (3) copies of musical scores of each piece certified by
the conductor and with permission from the composer and/or arranger on the
competition day during the final briefing.
4. APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION

4.1 All participating choirs must submit the following:

a. Application Form (duly accomplished and signed) with list of choir members
signed by the conductor.

b. Choir short profile (Tagalog)

c. One copy colored picture (5”x7”) in costume

4.2 Deadlines for submission of all the requirements is on and not later than JANUARY 17,
2020 from 8:00am to 5:00pm only at the City of Malolos Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sports
Office (CMO-ACTS) or email at: fiestarepublica2016@yahoo.com /message attachment at
FB Account Fiesta Republica page.

4.3 Non-submission of any or all of the above requirements or any misrepresentation

maybe used as grounds for automatic disqualification.

5. DATE OF THE COMPETITION

The competition is on JANUARY 22, 2020, Wednesday, 2:00pm at the Malolos Sports &
Convention Center, City of Malolos, Bulacan.

5.1 All contestants must be within the venue premises by 9:00am for the final briefing.

5.2 Each choir will be given a chance to conduct a short sound check before the
competition.

5.3 All participating choir must wear appropriate costume or attire fitted for this
competition’s purpose.

5.4 Drawing of lots shall be made after the briefing to determine the sequence of the
performance.

5.5 All participating choirs are required to sing the Tutti number BAYAN KO as finale
number.

5.6 Entrance, Exit and Technical Rehearsals can be arranged through the competition
committee. No rehearsal shall be allowed one (1) hour before the competition proper.

5.7 AM snacks, Lunch, & PM Snacks will provide by the organizing committee on the
competition day.
6. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:

40% - CHORAL SOUND QUALITY & TECHNIQUE

(Over-all application of choral techniques such as attacks and releases,
intonation, vocal production homogeneity)

40% - FIDELITY TO THE PIECES

(How the choir followed the music scores with appropriate
interpretation such as singing the right notes, dynamics, tempo and
style)

20% - OVER-ALL IMPACT

(Over-all stage performance such as entrance and exit, discipline on
stage and performance level)

7. PANEL OF JUDGES:
7.1 The Judges will be composed of people of recognized repute in the music and artistic
world (including education and music criticism)

7.2 The judges’ decision will be final and irrevocable.

7.3 No contestant/s or any representative shall contact in any way or manner any of the
judges in connection with critiques or ratings.

8. PRIZES AT STAKE:
3rd Place - 10,000.00 plus Certificate
2nd Place - 20,000.00 plus Certificate
CHAMPION - 30,000.00 plus Trophy

Special Awards Best Conductor - Certificate

Best in Costume - Certificate

Note: Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
