INDUSTRIAL PROCESS AND PLANT INSPECTION

 It was an unforgettable experience to remember in my life, that on

December 12-14, 2019 I was able to visit three major factories where I know

in the future will be my second home. As for me being a Mechanical

Engineering student, this plant tour helped me a lot on how to personally

visualize what I am studying for five years.

First, we visited Enertech Systems Industries INC in Bulacan.

Enertech is an ASME Certified plant. They have established they’re

reputation as the Phillipine’s “BIOLER TECHNOLOGY PEOPLE “. Enertech

Boiler System has proven its dominance in Philippine market as they were

able to create more than 3000 boiler units installed all over our country as

well as international like Asia, Papua New Guinea, Middle East and

Australia. I could still remember what the speaker had told us, that even

their boilers had already meet their life span, it could still work perfectly.

That is how good their products are. They toured us all inside their factory

and I’m very happy that I was able to finally see an example of a boiler in the

making.

Our next destination is the Baguio Sewage Treatment Plant located in

North Sanitary Camp, Baguio City. A grant aid project of the Japanese

(JICA). This factory composes of grit chambers, primary sedimentation tank,

oxidation ditch, finals sedimentation tanks, sludge thickness, sludge

digestion tank, sludge drying beds, disinfection tanks etc. Here how it

works, the treatment of domestic waste water employs the activated sludge

process designed for an incoming daily mean at 8,600 . It was designed

based on influent biochemical oxygen demand service area covers central

business district barangays. 65 barangays out of 129 barangays in the city.

When it comes to waste water treatment process there are five ways. First is

preliminary Treatment, the waste water flows through sewer pipes. A coarse

and fine screen removes large particles to prevent clogged pipes. Primary

treatment, organic and inorganic particles, oil, grease are removed in the

primary sedimentation tank. The settled particles proceed to the sludge

thickener. It is expected that at least 30 %of the biological oxygen demand

and 40% of suspended solids will be removed. Secondary treatment, this

process uses microbes to treat organic materials. The treatment plant

adopted the activated sludge process, a suspended growth secondary

treatment process that primary removes dissolved organic solids.

 Sludge treatment, sludge enters the sludge thickener to reduce the

sludge volume to be handled and remove the water to increase the solid

content. The sludge is disposed to either the sludge drying bed or sludge

dewatering press. Disinfection, the last step in the treatment process, it in-

activates or destroys pathogenic organisms and prevent the spread of water

borne or water related diseases. Calcium Hypochlorite in powder form is

added in the plant’s effluent coming from the secondary clarifiers then

discharged into the Sagudin-Balili River of Baguio City.

Last but not the least is in Pampanga, Angele Power Incorporated

Calibu Diesel Power Plant. The starting construction of this power plant was

at April 1993 and its starting capacity is 30 MW. Calibu Power Plant, is built

on a compound and the power plant itself, keeps a green place since they

plant trees around the compound to avoid noise pollution because the

operation is more than 30db than the normal. And the power plant is

located at near subdivisions which really need a noise limiting for the

residences not to disturb.

The Calibu Power plant is known for its electric producing. Since there are

only less than 40 workers of the plant, it is only a small power plant but it is

operating well. The safety of the workers is good since the used of PPE is much

observed and they care for the safety of their workers.

The instructor was so good, witty and so funny that he even discussed

to us all about their Calibu Plant and mention to us “WESM” which means

WHOLESALE ELECTRICITY SPOT MARKET. They toured us inside and

they even showed to us their control room. We had also so much fun with

our side trips especially when we are in Baguio City. T’was such a fantastic

experience and a happy memory to remember with my life.
