ON-LINE VISUAL INSPECTION PROCEDURES AND CHECKLIST
FOR SYNCHRONOUS MOTORS
Scope This procedure defines the requirements and methods for performing on-line
(energized) visual inspections for Induction Motors as follows:
E061J = Motors: < 1000V Synchronous
E061K = Motors: 1000V< V <6900V Synchronous (brushless type)
E061L = Motors: 1000V < V < 6900V Synchronous (brush type)
E061M = Motors: > 6900V Synchronous (brushless type)
E061N = Motors: > 6900V Synchronous brush type
Safety Safety is an integral part of all jobs. As such, all applicable Corporate and site-
specific safety and loss prevention practices and procedures shall be rigidly
applied in the execution of the work described in this standard. It is the
responsibility of the lead person administering this Practice to assure that such
safety related Practices/procedures are identified and followed by all involved.
Because of inherent dangers in any high voltage work, special care must be
taken to safeguard personnel in the inspection of this equipment. Use of
personal protective equipment is mandatory when performing these job tasks.
Visual Inspection Perform the following visual inspections on the motors per the interval described
(VISIN1) Checklist by the Condition Based Electrical PPM web site.

Item Inspection Results
Visual inspection of the motor start/stop station. Look for:
Excessive corrosion
Proper tagging/identification.
4 Good condition of Start/stop pushbuttons, Motor
Control Switches (MCS), Motor Safety Switches
(MSS) and locking possibilities (if applicable).
Signs of mechanical damage.
Visual inspection of lubrication system for motors with sleeve bearings.
Look for:
5
Proper oil level
Oil leakage
For larger motors with auxiliary cooling systems, insect the cooling
system for
6
Leaks, good clean air exchange vents, temperature,
flow and pressure indicator, etc.
Work orders (REP) issued to correct any deficiencies noted. Using work
7
order system the (REP) history is kept in GEMTS automatically
