Lesson Plan for Stress? What Stress?

School Counselor: Presenter: Ana Rangel (intern)


Target Audience: 9th graders

Learning Objective(s)/Competency
Students will: Cadets will reflect and recognize how their mind reacts to stress.
Students will: Cadets will identify two stressors and develop a plan to reduce stress.
Materials:
Laptop, projector, “Getting Rid of Stress” Handout, Pre/Post test, assigning pair sheet, white
paper, color pencils/markers

Procedure: Describe how you will:
Introduce: Ana will welcome students and introduce herself. She will remind them
of her role ate SEA. Ana will proceed to explain the reason for covering
stress management (Results of need assessment).
Communicate The objectives will be reviewed as they are projected on the screen.
Lesson Objective:
Teach Content: Through a whole class discussion students will define what stress is.
Students will draw how their mind reacts when stressed vs when
relaxed. Lastly, students will brainstorm as a class different healthy and
unhealthy approach to dealing with stress.
Practice Content: Students will collaborate in pairs to work through a scenario and
determine how to reduce stress. Students will engage in a class
discussion on the solutions they came up with for the scenario. Students
will individually identify a minimum of two stressors in their life and
steps to reduce those stressors.
Summarize: Students will share out load approaches they came up with to reduce
stress. Students will volunteer to share out key take away from the
lesson.
Close: Students will need to complete the post-test as their exit ticket. Students
will be reminded who the counseling team consists of and availability
hours.

Students will be able to better approach stressful situation, which in return can have a positive
impact on academics. Reducing stressors can open up space for students to be more focused
with their academics and have a higher academic performance.
