Gateway Online Class

H E L LO !

Session Eight 14th May

Hello again to the Gateway Gang!

In this document I have a written instructions to accompany the video I made for this
weeks class. I used household items for all projects so hopefully you will have some/all of
the materials at hand!

There are three options of tasks to complete this week. Once you have experimented
with each task, I would like you to try and combine the projects!

I hope you are all keeping well... I have missed you!

sun catchers
Materials needed for surface rubbings: Paper and oil. Optional paint.

Step 1 -  Cut small irregular shapes out of a sheet of paper.

Step 2 -  Using any oil, paint simple designes onto your paper.

Step 3 - Make sure to keep your designes simple as the oil will continue to spread. You can even incorporate some paint if you have it!

Step 4 - Allow to dry flat.

Step 5 -  Tape to a window in your house and enjoy as the sun streams through your picture.
flower mandalas
Materials needed : Paper, flowers from your garden/park, glue, bowl, scissors. Optional oil/paint.

Step 1 - Using a bowl as a template, cut a circle out of paper.

Step 2 - Take a stroll in your local park or in your garden, and pick some wild flowers and grass.

Step 3 - When you arrive home, cut theese flowers and grass into small sections.

Step 4 -  Organise your flowers in a geometric and symmetrical way.

Step 5 - Once you are happy with the pattern your have created, glue your individual pieces of flowers down to the page.

Step 6 - When the glue has dried, cut a very small slit in the center of the top of your mandala.

Step  7 - Thread a long piece of grass through this slit so that you can hang your mandala on your wall.

Step 8 - Keep and eye on your mandala and watch how it changes as your flowers dry out!
drawing with a grid
Materials needed : Paper, scissors, thread and leaf. Optional paints/ colouring pencils.

Step 1 -  Take an A4 sheet of paper and fold it in half. Cut along the fold line.

Step 2 -  Fold each of these pieces of paper and cut along this line too. Leaving you with 4 even rectangles.

Step 3 -  Take one of these pieces of paper and draw and rectangle in the centre. Cut this out so you are left with a "window".

Step 4 -  Measure the half way point on each side of the window.

Step 5 -  Using a piece of tread, or thin string, connect the half way points and tape down. This will leave you with a cross grid in the centre of your window.

Step 6 - Now your grid drawing tool is ready to use.

Step 7 - Take another piece of paper and lightly draw a line half way across both vertically and horizontally. These are your guide lines.

Step 8 - Hold your grid tool in front of your leaf. You can use the strings on the tool to match to the lines on your page. This is to help you to keep
everything in proportion.

Step 9 - Once you are happy with the shape, rub out your guide lines.

Step 10 - I encourage you to try and draw the same leaf from a variety of angles to make a series of drawings.

Step 11 - You can paint or colour these in, either representationally - depicting the colours you see, or abstractly - using blocks of bold colours.
THANK YOU!
