Lesson Plan for What’s my Rep? (lesson title)

Students will: Understand the impact of actions on an individual’s reputation

Students will: Understand the effect a reputation has on relationships with others

- Character trait anchor chart
- Character trait puzzle pieces
- Gallon bags
- Reputation goal sheet

Procedure: Describe how you will:
Introduce: Hang the Character Trait anchor chart (from the previous lessons) and
review the meaning of reputation and the effects character traits have
on reputation.
Communicate Today we will learn about our reputations and how they can affect us
Lesson Objective: and the people around us.
Go over student objectives. Have a student share the objective in their
own words.
Teach Content: 1. Show video clip of Dispicable Me and discuss Gru’s actions and
how they helped to build the way the world saw him; evil. Then
discuss how Gru is actually a kind person and people didn’t know
until he chose behaviors that supported it.
2. “Today you are going to work in your groups to better
understand reputations that others may perceive based on
actions.” Show students an example puzzle: reputation, character
traits, and example.
Practice Content: 1. Split students into groups, pass out puzzle bags and allow groups
to work together to build their reputation puzzles.
2. Pass out the Reputation Goal sheet. Have them decide on three
character traits that will help them attain the reputation they
want in middle school.

Summarize: Allow time for student share-out of their decided character traits.

Close: Go over student objective and allow students to self-assess their


understanding of new content using a thumb up, sideways or down.

 Discipline (describe): Teachers have noticed patterns of behaviors and attitudes changing in
5th grade students towards the end of the school year. This lesson will support teaching
students that the way they behave may affect the relationships they have with their peers.
This lesson will support students in the way the present themselves at school.
