I am writing to you today on behalf of myself and the owners of 30 other small boutique fitness
centers in St. Louis County. We employ hundreds of people in our region who want to get back
to work and have thousands of loyal members who are not only eager to return to our facilities
to improve their physical health, but also to protect their mental health. We ask that you
evaluate the processes and controls we plan to have in place and designate a distinct class of
business which can be managed separately from big box gyms. Instructor-led facilities like ours
allow a very high degree of control over the gym environment. Our instructors have the ability to
directly manage and control the environment in which we operate to ensure proper controls are
in place.
I am the owner of three boutique fitness facilities (Burn Boot Camp O’Fallon, Manchester, and
South County) and we successfully re-opened our O’Fallon location on May 4th. We have
proven to control and sustain a safe environment and we have a local working model of how
boutique fitness can be managed deliberately and safely. The standard operating procedures
(SOPs) we and several of the other owners have adopted are vetted through our national
franchise headquarters and are being deployed nationwide. These SOPs include the following:
It is our firm belief that our facilities will be one of the safest environments for St. Louis County
residents, and that boutique fitness facilities deserve the right to be open alongside other
industries. We also believe that your constituents want us open now as evidenced by the
thousands of signatures on our petition which were accumulated in just a few days. Our
communities need the services we provide for well-being. Their physical, emotional and mental
strength is deteriorating every day we are closed. Our goal is to create healthy and happy
individuals; the decision to exclude boutique gyms from Phase 1 has taken this away from
people - your people.
There is nothing more important in the middle of a pandemic than a strong immune system and
good mental health. We are certain that we can do it safely and we respectfully request that you
create a more granular definition of “gyms” and allow our instructor-led facilities to reopen as
soon as possible.
We appreciate your consideration and will be in touch with your office to schedule a day and
time that is convenient for you to discuss.
Best regards,
