HOW TO APPLY FOR 2020 BSC, MSC AND PHD CHINESE GOVERNMENT
SCHOLARSHIP (CSC)- UNIVERSITY PROGRAMME BY DMAINMAN NIGERIA

IMPORTANT NOTES:

 The scholarship deadline depends on the university. Some university deadline is

February while some is March or April.
 You can apply to maximum of 3 universities for the(CSC)- UNIVERSITY
PROGRAMME. You will need to create different email address to log in for each application.
However, when filling the online form, you can enter one email address for all of your
application.
 If you applied to 3 schools and are successful in them, you will need to accept one and
reject the remaining 2 schools. Hence, you can apply to only one school if you wish.
 Some universities will in addition require you to also apply on their university page. So
check your university requirement.
 Some universities require you to pay for application fees. So check your university
requirement.
 Some universities will require you not to post documents and to only apply on their
online page. So check your university requirements.
 In addition to this Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), you can also apply five other
different Chinese scholarship opportunity categories and they are i. Chinese State/Provincial
Government scholarships, ii. Chinese Belt and Silk Road initiative scholarship, iii. The
ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents, iv. University/ School Presidential Scholarship and
v. Marine Scholarship of China

STEPS ON APPLYING FOR THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP (CSC)

1. Use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox browser to go to the website

below: http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/login. Click on ‘’English’’ to view in
English Language

2. Click on ‘’New user’’ to create your login details. Then go to the email address
you entered to activate the account. Afterwards Sign in and Apply

3. Click on ‘’Application online’’

4. Go to Program Category and choose Type B. Then type in your university

agency Number. Agency numbers of Chinese universities can be seen here:

e.g In the picture below, the agency number China University of Petroleum
(Beijing) is 11414. Then click on save to proceed.

1. Then go to the next tabs and fill. Click on the collapse button to expand

2. Under Language Proficiency and Study Plan

Write ‘None’ under Chinese Proficiency and ‘Not Applicable’ in the field Level of
Obtained HSK Certificate.

Then under English Proficiency and Obtained English Proficiency

Certificate

Choose program Language as English.

In China, start of session starts September and ends July. For a two year Masters
program, write September 1st 2020 to July 15th, 2022. So a three year PhD program
will be from September 1st 2020 to July 15th, 2023

3. Upload the documents below and then click on submit

4. Download the completed application form by clicking ‘’Print the Application

Form’’ and print two hard copies.

5. You can make changes to your application by clicking ‘’Withdraw and Edit the
Application’’ on the top of the page. Make sure to submit it again by clicking
‘’Submit’’ after finishing all the changes. Otherwise, the retrieved application
will become invalid and your new application will not be received either.

10: Finally, print the application forms in duplicate alongside other documents stated
below and send the full package of application documents (IN TWO SETS) to your
University International Students Office address by post.
Note that some schools don’t require you to post your documents. follow the guidelines of

your proposed school. If it is required to post as directed by your proposed school, to save
cost, use NIPOST Registered mail postage service. Ensure you collect your tracking number. If
you stay near Ikeja in Lagos, go to NAHCO AVIANCE NIPOST BRANCH at Muritala
International Airport Lagos to post it for fast delivery.

However, any NIPOST office in Nigeria is okay so far they offer registered mail postage
service. I and many friends actually used this service and won this scholarship. You
should post early so your documents can reach there on time. It is advisable to use the
NIPOST registered mail postage service so you can have the money to post to many
schools you applied for.

Courier is very expensive hence not recommending it. DHL charges about 15 to 20k.
While NIPOST registered mail is just 1 to 2k. Don’t waste your money but apply and
post early to many schools in time to increase your chances.

Generally, the documents to post are depending on your school guideline:

1. Printed Application Form of Chinese Government Scholarship

2. Some universities will in addition require you to also apply on their university page. You will also need
to print the university application form and submit. So check your proposed university guideline
3. Certified highest degree i.e Photocopy your certificate and take it to any court in
Nigeria to certify. e.g It costs N200 per page in Lagos State High Court, Ikeja
4. Certified highest academic transcripts. i.e Photocopy your certificate and take it
to any court in Nigeria to certify. e.g It costs N200 per page in Lagos State High Court, Ikeja
5. 2 Passport Photographs. Write your full name at the back
6. Photocopy of International passport
7. Study/Research plan: This should be a minimum of 200 words for the undergraduate
program applicants and 800 words for postgraduate program applicants
8. 2 Academic Reference letters. Having a professor recommendation will help.
9. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of the applicants’
own works. Applicants for the fine arts programs must submit a CD of the applicants’ own
works (including two sketches, two color paintings and two other works)

10. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.
11.Photocopy of endorsed medical form not original. At this stage, you don’t really need to do all the
medical tests as it expires within six months before its validity so your money won’t waste. Some past
successful scholars did not even do any medical tests at this stage. However, they filled all the form. The
form should be stamped and acknowledged by doctor near the affixed photograph and on the last
signatory page.
When you get the scholarship, you must do all the medical tests and bring the evidence with you to
China. You must bring your XRAY film, medical report, new endorsed medical form and test
results to China. You also need this new endorsed medical form for your Chinese visa. If not, you

12. If you intend to study in English, you should score at least IELTS: 6.5, or TOEFL: 90 or
WAEC/NECO: C6. Note that you can also upload your WAEC/NECO and a Letter of English
Proficiency from University or Secondary school as one PDF file in lieu of IELTS/TOEFL
13. Abstract of Masters thesis (For PhD)
14. Publications- Front page only (not compulsory but include it if you have)
15. Acceptance letter from supervisor (not compulsory but include it if you have)
16. Awards (not compulsory but include it if you have)

Note that in addition to this Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), you can also apply five other
