Non-academic Achievement Scholarships for Current Students 2019/20


Information Sheet
1. Overview

Non-academic Achievement Scholarships give recognition to students who have demonstrated achievements or talent in non-academic areas and
provide support for students to broaden their exposure to multicultural environment. The following non-academic achievement Scholarships are now
open for application from All Current Undergraduate Students in 2019/20:

• Roderick Yuen Shui Chung Memorial Scholarship


• Community Leadership and Engagement (COLE) Scholarship
• Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Scholarship
• Sports Scholarships
• Arts Scholarship
• Dream Chaser Scholarships

2. Requirements and Selection Criteria

- Applicants should be Full-time Undergraduates in any year of study with “ACTIVE” student status;
- Applicants shall not be on academic probation at the University; and meet the specific requirements for each scholarship as follows:

Sports Scholarships - Should have potential for further development and devotion to make continual personal development in sports, and for
contributing to the sports community in HKUST.
- Demonstration of achievements with proven record in one or more of the following fields (including but not limited to):
• Visual Arts • Design • Music • Creative Writing
• Theatre • Photography • Dancing • Film & New Media
Any Discipline - Students should have fulfilled at least one of the following criteria to be considered for the Scholarship,

- Students should show proven financial needs, AND fall into one of the following categories:
a) being the first university student amongst 3 generations of the families (i.e. his/her grandparents and parents have not had
any chance to get any university education);
Dream Chaser Scholarships b) from a single-parent family or parentless or homeless;
c) being of ethnic minority (non-Chinese) with the right of abode and holding a valid HK Identity Card;
d) being a new immigrant (not a student visa holder) to Hong Kong and has stayed in Hong Kong for less than 7 years; or
e) facing extreme difficulty in any particular situation that warrants extra care and support to meet his/her life challenges.

4. Application

4.1. Completed application form should be submitted online (Links as below) on or before 11:59pm (HKT), 27 March 2020 (Friday). Late or
incomplete applications will not be considered. Please refer to the supporting documents checklist as below and make sure ALL supporting
documents uploaded to the online application form are saved in PDF. If students wish to apply for more than one non-academic achievement
scholarships, students should make separate application for each of the scholarships.

For Sports Scholarship, applicants are required to submit a recommendation <Download HERE> completed by the coach of your sports team or any referee who has the best and continued understanding of
your athletic performance. The recommendation should be submitted together with the application form on or before the application deadline. If you need any advice, please approach the Sports Development
Team of Dean of Students' Office (DSTO).

4.2. Recommendation letter(s) can be returned directly to Scholarships & Financial Aid Office via internal mail (for HKUST referees), by mail (for
referees outside HKUST) to Rm 4592, Lift 29-30, Annex Building, HKUST or by e-mail at sfao.sc@ust.hk on or before 11:59pm (HKT), 27
March 2020 (Friday).

5. Selection Process

5.1. Scholarships and Financial Aid Office will request applicants to submit further supporting documents for information or attend a selection interview,
if deemed necessary.

5.2. Results will be announced by e-mail by end of May 2020.
