Learning And Leaving Independently Leads to a Success

The student life is the golden period of our life. It is the period that all the social people learn
different things and gives knowledge about the present world. Going to school in a faraway place
presents some challenges. If you go far enough, you'll probably be essentially by yourself, with no
family or old friends around to soften the experience of starting a new chapter of your life. This can be
a somewhat scary experience, but it's ultimately a very important one. The courage and skill it takes to
pick up and start your life over somewhere new and different will serve you well later in life, when good
job opportunities might not exist right on your doorstep.

Suitcased students will have a fresh start. They will experience being in a new community
among unfamiliar faces wich allows them to act according to their own will rather than other people's
expectations of them. They’ll be able to meet new set of friends and expose themselves to new ideas
and experiences that they might not feel comfortable doing if held back by old relationships. There's
definitely a regional cultural difference from place to place. For example, I grew up in Tuguegarao, and
the conservative, the traditional aspect of northern society doesn't really do it for me. Going to school
in La Union will expose me to a new set of cultural norms. This exposure to new ideas and different
people is a really important part of becoming a well-rounded and open-minded student. They also
want to have new surroundings and friends whom they can share their interests with. Although its hard
to be apart from their family, suitcased students value education well. It could be their way to have and
make their dreams come true.

According to Davison (2019), there are also cons in going to urban schools far from home.
Some might get homesickness. Not everyone is cut out for traveling or being away from home for a
long period of time, and that’s perfectly fine. There seems to be pressure on young people today to
travel the world and see everything possible, but some people simply don’t like to travel and would
rather stay where they are comfortable. If you are going off to college and find that you have anxiety
about leaving your parents or hometown, then attending a school close to home may be a better
option for you. It is also difficult to adjust. People react differently to new environments; some love the
change in scenery and routine while others may feel lost, confused and generally uncomfortable. A
common reason people have difficulty adjusting is that they feel like they don’t belong and find it
challenging to meet new people. Some schools may be easier to adjust to than others depending on
the resources they provide and the size of the school itself. Lastly, is when there are emergency
situations. Whether it be an illness, accident or crisis, it is certainly nice to be close to home when
these things occur either to you or someone you’re close with Especially if you or a family member has
a medical condition, being far away from home can cause uneasiness or anxiety.

Being a suitcased student is not easy – they will be away from their families. They are exposed
in thickly populated area, prone to airborne viruses and sicknesses. Additional expenses is also
considered – cost of living, house rental and transporation. Mostly where influenced by parents and
peers. Choice of student because they are after the quality education that they learn – especially to
schools with modernized laboratories and equipments. Living away from home will make them more
independent as they couldn’t rely on their family to look after them, do their washing, cooking, cleaning
etc. Students in urban schools are exposed to a variety of teaching and learning materials. The
“businesswire” (2017) assumes that students who study in urban areas typically gain greater overall
access to education, receive a higher quality education, and outperform their rural counterparts. This
urban advantage varies across countries, but is present in both the developed and developing world. A
student's socio-economic background partially contributes towards the difference in performance but a
number of advantages such as better access to materials and human resources widen the gap.

The following observations were noted to suitcased students and since we see them everyday.
We saw their hardships and struggles and it is just proper to interact and socialize with them so we
understand their situation. Respect them and befriend them because they are no different from any
students like us. We should appreciate them in any ways because at their young ages and as
students, they were already trained to live by themselves, not too much dependent on their parents
and siblings. They are examples of a true and strong Filipino youth.
