Summary
In this video, Angela Miller came up with a brief explanation of what Group
Investigation Model is and how it works by pointing out the democratic procedures. This
model is propounded by John Dewey and Herbert Thelen. This helps students to work in
groups. In the video, it is shown how to use group investigation model in teaching. The
topic of the teaching is Your Journalistic Rights. There are 6 phases of group
investigation model according to this model. The first phase is encountering puzzling
situation that the teacher comes up with interesting questions that will grasp students’
interests and attentions. Second phase is exploring reactions to situation by asking them
questions on they feel about the. The third phase is formulating study task and organize
for study that the teacher gives instruction on what to look for and how the group will
work. The fourth phase is independent and group study. During this phase, the students
find resources and discuss for the answer. Analyze progress and process is the fifth phase.
This time, the teacher asked questions on what they have learned and the student present
what they found. The final phase is recycling activity that they go back to the original
questions asked in the first and discuss on what they found from their investigation.
