First read the entire nonfiction passage “Operation Rescue Possum” below (it is 2 pages).
After reading, move to the ‘Think’ section and respond to the 5 multiple choice questions. Pay
close attention to questions #2 and #4 because they both have 2 parts (A and B). Use what you
learned from the passage to help when answering. If your scholar gets stuck or needs help
with comprehension and understanding, go back into the passage and help them reread.
Sometimes just going back and rereading the passage can help us understand what is
happening in the story. Be sure to use context clues and key details. After answering all 5 of
the ‘Think’ questions, you can move on to the ‘Write’ section. On the lines below, write down
the key details from the passage that explain how the possum was finally rescued. This can
be written in bullet points like a list of details or written in complete sentences.
If you can’t print, it is ok. Read the nonfiction passage directly from this lesson plan. Write
down the answers to each question on a blank sheet of paper. Be sure to label the paper and
number it for each question and identify both parts on the questions with an A and B.

Task 2 Ducks
Read the nonfiction passage below about “Ducks” two times all the way through.
Before writing down answers for the first two questions, be sure to go back into the
text and underline the key detail used to help answer. All answers need to be written
in complete sentences with capital letters, a complete thought and a period. Do not
just answer with 2 or 3 words. Number 3 is asking your scholar to write a question
that they can ask about the passage. If your scholar is having any problems coming
up with a question…. Remind them about ‘thick’ and ‘thin’ questions and the 5 W’s
and a H question words that can be used to start a structured question (Who, What,
When, Where, Why and How). The question may or may not be able to be answered
with the information given in the text. It could be a question or scholar has about
Ducks in general.
If you complete this task on separate paper, be sure to label each of the 3 questions
and leave enough space to write the answers completely.

My question to you is: Why do you think that it is important to use a calendar?
The question can be answered in the blank space below or on a seperate sheet of
