1) Two stopwatch
5) One dropper
Chemicals:
i. 10 cm3 of KI and 10 cm3 of H2SO4 were measured into a small beaker, followed by 10
cm3 of Na2S2O3 and 3 drops of starch solution were added into the beaker.
ii. 10 cm3 of H2O2 was measured into another beaker. H 2O2 was quickly poured into the
first beaker that contain a combine solution of KI, H 2SO4, Na2S2O3 and starch. The
mixture was shaken and the stopwatch started immediately. The stopwatch was
stopped as soon as the blue-black colour appeared. The time was recorded for the
appearance of the blue-black colour.
iii. Step (i) and (ii) were repeated three times by diluting the KI each time. 2 cm 3 of water
was added for the first time, 4 cm3 of water was added for the second time, and 6 cm 3
of water was added for the third time into each first beaker.
i. 3 cm3 of KMnO4 and 3 cm3 of H2SO4 was measured into a test tube.
ii. 3 cm3 of oxalic acid was measured into another test tube and the oxalic acid was
added quickly into the first test tube. The mixture was shaken and immediately the
stopwatch was started. The time taken for the dark purple colour of KMnO 4 to
disappear was recorded.
iii. Step (i) and (ii) were repeated but this time at the temperature of 40°C, 50°C, and
60°C. The test tubes was immersed in hot water bath until the solutions are at the
required temperature. Then, the solution was mixed and time was recorded.
iv. Step (i) and (ii) were repeated but this time 3 drops of MnSO 4 were added to the test
tube.
