HALL® MicroFree® System

INTRODUCTION
CONMED is excited to launch the new era of HALL Power innovation, the MicroFree
Cordless Small Bone Power System, our first battery-powered pencil grip design. Built
upon 55 years of dependable power and engineering expertise, the HALL MicroFree
System provides reliable power and enhanced ergonomics combined with the freedom of
a cordless device.

“Dramatic improvement over the corded models in its ease of use, making the case go
faster.”

“The most impressive thing about the MicroFree was the reaction from the nurses.
Rather than set up cords, bring in equipment boxes, modules; it’s a simple, small device
that’s self-contained...reduced the work of the OR staff dramatically and once they used
it, they didn’t want to let it go!”

Power Unit (L3500SB)

Power and Reliability from an established brand – HALL. The

MicroFree Power Unit utilizes NEW high-temperature,
insulated lithium technology providing long-lasting power;
and is compatible with all HALL MicroFree handpieces. The
Power Unit contains a single lithium cell wrapped with
Insulfrax® which has a high heat resistance providing
sufficient power (current) without obstruction.

The glass connector of the MicroFree Power Unit

provides a hermetically sealed barrier to prevent
moisture intrusion, encasing pre-sealed pins which
connect internal and external components. Contact pins
on the Power Unit are inactive when not in use, designed
to make them less susceptible to electrolysis and
corrosion.

The Power Unit is charged using the L3000 charger and

L3500 adaptor (pictured below). NOTE: the software on the
L3000 charge must be A34-400-033. If not, please return to
the Service Department so that the charger may be updated.
To display the software, disconnect the charger from the
outlet and reconnect it. The software number is displayed
when the charger is booting up.

The power unit takes a maximum of 30 minutes to charge with an average charge time of 12
minutes.

Small, ergonomic, pistol- The MicroFree Mini-Driver

grip handpiece specifically features a titanium collet
designed for precision- that allows for one-handed
focused small bone operation to facilitate
procedures. simple and quick
instrument changes.

Although similar in design to the HALL 50, the MicroFree Mini-

Driver is smaller and 13% lighter than the large bone two-trigger
modular drill, but still has the same power and features,
maintaining compatibility with the various pinning, reaming, cutting
and drilling attachments.

TRI-SEAL™ Technology
MicroFree Mini-Driver incorporates three powerful barriers to fluid ingress. Sealing the
handpieces reduces operation and service costs.
1. Hermetically sealed controller houses the electronics of the
handpiece meaning that this controller is air and water tight.
2. Epoxy potting of exposed boards and wires provides
protection at the interface of the controller and the motor. If
moisture were to permeate the handpiece, the epoxy coating
is designed to protect the boards and wires from potential
corrosion.
3. Fully sealed handpiece housing reduces the potential for
moisture intrusion. With only three possible entry points for
moisture, each is protected with dynamic seals and gaskets to
prevent moisture intrusion. Before any handpiece leaves the
manufacturing floor or the service and repair desk, it is
pressure tested to ensure there are no leaks.

FEATURES & BENEFITS
Optimized Sterile Processing
HALL MicroFree Power Units are UL-approved and fully autoclavable meaning that the entire
system can be placed in the same tray as the handpieces and attachments for sterile processing,
eliminating the need for individual wrapping. MicroFree Handpieces have ingress protection
ratings of IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9, providing resistance to moisture intrusion in the presence of
water jets and submersion. MicroFree Handpieces feature a custom motor with minimal
electronics and an encapsulated design to prevent against moisture intrusion. The HALL
MicroFree System IPX rates higher than other current small bone powered instruments on the
market. Arthrex 300 Power System has an ingress rating of IPX0.1

Weight vs. Balance

With balance, the weight distribution influences the force required to manipulate the device. The
center of gravity remains fixed, and since there is no cord, the concern that the handpiece will be
pulled in different directions is eliminated giving the surgeon full control
of the handpiece in one hand. Cords become tethered and as surgeons
have pointed out can pull the device in different directions making it
difficult to position. Some may argue that the design looks large and
heavy. But, it is the well-balanced ergonomics of the MicroFree that
ultimately provides the surgical precision desired.2

“When using a corded device the cord can become entangled and this can pull on the device
causing real problems.”

Single System Platform

Customers can standardize their sets with a single HALL Power Unit that fits all MicroFree
Handpieces. This helps to reduce initial purchasing cost, reduce service and repair cost, and
maximize ease of use.
