What an Editor is and what they do:


The job of a video editor is to use the footage made in the
production phase to create the final of a film in the presentable form
by arranging and trimming video shots to create the full film. Video
editing is needed to create and present all films and TV shows. In
recent years video editing has gotten easier and easier and continues
to follow this trend and now anyone can edit their own videos of
professional quality from their own computer sometimes even for
free.

Editors tasks consist of many tasks, on one day an editor could be


focusing on selecting shots, cutting them and arranging them in
order with transitions between them, another day an editor could be
adding filter and improving colour balance to suit the mood of the
film. Editors may also edit sound, by syncing it up with shots, or
changing things like. Dynamics and pitch to suit the mood of the film.

What is Expected Before Entering this Position:


An editor requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree to enter the
editing workforce, preferably a degree in Media or film production,
with a master’s degree making employment more likely. There are
many programmes for children and adults alike to add to their
portfolio as an editor to give themselves a higher chance of
employment.

What Income is Expected at this Position:


An entry level director with little experience may make from
£25,000-£30,000 per year, with experienced editors making an
average of £50,000 a senior editor making upwards of £70,000 per
annum.
