Cleaning the Reservoir
Use hot soapy water to clean the reservoir and rinse thoroughly with hot water.
CAUTION: Never use boiling water. Fill only with liquid between 0ºC
(32ºF) and 80ºC (176ºF).
For tough cleaning jobs: Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to 3/4 cup of water and
shake for 30 seconds. Add 1/4 cup of lemon juice and shake for 30 seconds and
vent by loosening the cap away from the face. Repeat shaking and venting 3
times. Expel as much air as possible, tighten the cap and allow the bag to soak
for 20 minutes. Rinse 3 times with hot water.
CAUTION: When adding lemon juice to baking soda, effervescence
(carbonation) occurs and will cause pressure to build in a capped
reservoir.

Maintaining the Zipper Track

Keep the zipper track clear of sand and grit; if the track becomes dirty, rinse
before using. Periodically lubricate with petroleum jelly for optimal performance
and to extend the life of the zipper track.
Cleaning the Bite Valve
The Bite Valve provides maximum flow at roughly half compression. The valve
consists of two separate parts and can be easily disassembled for cleaning to
prevent the growth of microorganisms.
To remove the bite valve from drinking
tube: roll the sleeve portion of valve body
(where tube goes in) back toward the
mouthpiece. Pull the valve body off the
tube end. To disassemble the bite valve for
cleaning: Roll back the valve body to
expose the yellow diaphragm. Remove the
diaphragm. Clean with mild detergent or
isopropyl alcohol and rinse. To reassem-
ble, moisten the ribbed blue core, align the
oval shapes of the diaphragm and core,
then press the diaphragm back onto the
core.
To reattach, moisten the tube end and
insert to a point approximately 3/8” (1cm)
past where sleeve meets the thicker part
of the valve body.

If the bite valve becomes loose, remove

the valve, snip off the tube end and then
reattach the bite valve.

Care & Maintenance of the EOD 9 Suit EOD 9 Suit Components
CAUTION: Do not dry clean or use strong cleansers, bleach, or B
chlorine solutions of any kind on the EOD 9 Suit. These cleaning A
methods will damage the moisture-repellent treatment on the outer
cover.

Routine Inspection
Perform on-going inspections of the seams, hook and loop closures and snaps
to ensure that the suit is in good condition. A number of conditions associated
with normal use produce moisture (i.e. perspiration) inside the suit. Thoroughly
air-dry the suit before storage. If the suit is damaged in any way, contact Med-
Eng Systems Inc. directly, or through an authorized agent/distributor, for advice
on repairs. Check protective inserts to ensure that they are flat (not bunched), C
and properly positioned.

Cleaning (Lightly Soiled) F

If the suit is lightly soiled, it is not necessary to remove the protective inserts and
place the suit in a washing machine. Instead, use a brush to remove surface dirt, E
wipe the suit with a damp cloth and then hang to dry.

Laundering (Heavily Soiled)

H
1. Before laundering a suit, remove ALL protective inserts, the patchcord and
the Back Protector.

WARNING: Failure to remove the protective inserts before laundering may

damage the suit and result in diminished protection. Never place the pro-
tective inserts in a washer, dryer or dry cleaning machine. D

2. Once the protective inserts have been removed, ensure that all snaps, zip-
pers and hook and loop closures are completely re-fastened.

General Information Routing the Remote Cable and Patchcord
The EOD 9 Suit provides superior, balanced protection against the four conven-
tional threats associated with an explosion or blast event: overpressure, frag-
mentation, impact and heat. The suit allows the technician to maintain excellent
mobility, flexibility, and field of view. It is compatible with various accessories,
including: Wireless Configuration
• body cooling system
• hardwire communication systems
• wireless communication systems
• chemical-biological protective undergarments and equipment
When dressing for either a training session or an actual intervention, always use
an EOD helmet and visor to complete the EOD 9 ensemble.
A build-up of body-generated heat inside the suit can cause heat stress and
dehydration. Intake fluids before suiting up and during rest periods, to combat
this potential problem.
The following procedures outline the most effective and efficient method of
dressing. Follow these step-by-step directions to ensure that the suit is put on
properly. Deviation from these instructions can result in unnecessary time delays
and improper dressing in emergency situations.
NOTE: The EOD 9 Suit uses hook and loop closures for rapid dressing
and undressing. Secure the closures by patting the hook and loop down
firmly with your hand to create a strong bonding effect. Make sure that the Patchcord

maximum surface area of the hook and loop is matched. hook and loop anchors

Use the guidelines in the following table to ensure that the EOD 9 Suit fits
properly.

Hardwire Configuration

If the EOD 9 Suit is used in a CBRN situation, the following additional measures must
be taken:
Use a suitable respiration system (Canister/Blower arrangement, SCBA or rebreather).
Wear an appropriate Chemical Protective Undergarment (CPU) under the EOD 9 Suit.
Wear proper rubber gloves and boots designed for chemical-biological operations.
Wear a Body Cooling System.
Refer to the respective user manuals for proper use of all items listed above.
If exposure to a chemical-biological substance occurs, always follow proper decontam-
ination procedures when undressing.

1 2 3 Removing the Protective Inserts
Caution: Remove inserts in a manner as to avoid tearing of the water
resistant pouch.

1. Open the hook and loop closures on the inside of the suit which hold the
inserts.
2. Reach inside the pouch and separate the insert from the hook and loop
anchor patches, usually located at the corners of the insert.
3. Remove the insert from the pouch.
Note: Once a protective insert is removed from the suit, re-fasten the
hook and loop closure to reduce contamination of the hook patch during
washing and prevent premature wear on the outer surface of the suit.

The trousers contain protective inserts in the following areas:

1. Make sure the trouser zippers are unfastened. Slide the arms into the suspenders,
fasten the waistband and adjust the suspenders, if necessary. The waistband should
bear most of the weight of the trousers.
2. Fasten the zippers as far as the slider spring stops. Refer to detail. Fastening the zip-
pers past the slider spring stop will cause the zippers to release. Fasten the
snaps.
3. Tighten the leg straps.

4 5 6

To remove the Back Protector:

1. Unfasten the hook and loop on the suspenders.

2. Pass the straps back through the D-rings on the trouser waistband.

3. Pull the straps out through the lower openings in the channels.
4. Lift the Back Protector and attach the IGP to the hook and loop on the rear of the
trousers.
5. Pass the IGP between the technician’s legs and attach it to the hook and loop on the
front trouser waistband.
6. Attach the lower side hook and loop adjustment straps so that they have room to
expand when the technician crouches or bends.

2. Lay the IGP flat on top of the jacket.

7. The technician should bend at the knees several times, to ensure maximum
comfort and a proper fit of the trousers and IGP.
8. Adjust the back protector so that the top reaches the nape of the technician's
neck. A small triangle (D) should form between the back protector and the
