End of Year Test: Speaking

Part 1 (2 minutes)

First of all I would like to know something about you.

Select one or more questions form the following as appropriate.

• Where do you usually go with your friends? Why?

• What sort of work would you like to do in the future? Why?

• Where do you think you will be in five years’ time?

• Have you bought something recently?

• Do you save any money? Why/Why not?

• If you could go on holiday, which country would you choose? Why?

• Who has had the greatest influence on your life? Why?

• Tell me about an achievement you are most proud of?

Part 2 (4 minutes)

In this part of the test, I’m going to give each of you three pictures. I’d like you to talk about two of
them on your own for about a minute, and also to answer a question briefly about your partner’s
pictures.

(Candidate A), it’s your turn first. Here are your pictures. They show important events in people’s
lives.

Place Part 2 card in front of Candidate A.

I’d like you to compare two of the pictures and say how the people might have prepared for
these events and how they might be feeling.

Now, talk to each other about why people choose to spend their money on these things.

• Some people say they feel a compulsion to go shopping when they are in need of an
emotional lift or a pat on the back. How would you respond to that?

• How do you think people can be helped towards a more conscious spending?
