We are come form PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia, Bekasi Plant. Will to Explain about our TQM
Activity
With Theme is Diameter Measurement System Development for Unique Bias Tire
Before let introduce my self, my name is Inggil Triharjuno from QA
And my friend is Muhammad Hamzah From Final Inspection,
And Our Safety declaration is Always do yubisashi kosho at an intersection.

I’ve divided our presentation into fifth parts. Let’s we get started.

In Indonesia, Bridgestone Tire has two plants. Bekasi plant and Karawang plant. And we are
come from Bekasi Plant

(Slide 4) H
Bekasi Plant was founded in 1975, many various product that we produced and the main
production is Bias Tire.

(Slide 5) H
Common Bias was produced since 1975, usually use for trucks and buses. While, Unique Bias
was produced since 2007, usually use for Unique Vehicle too, like a tractor and mining trucks.

As you can see, there is a deformation from Green Tire to a Tire that difference is high compared
with PSR and Common Bias.
Related Construction Unique bias tire has less plies, and wider GT. Related Deformation & PCI
process Unique Bias Tire is higher up to 70%

Related VOC from External and Internal, we got a lot of complaints related to Tire Dimensions.
And mostly related tire height not same. And the effect is if Tire diameter over there will be
contact to body and if tire installed not same, the vehicle became uneven.

Why Final Inspection can’t detect different tire height? In the inspection process, only the visual
and appearance are checked. No dimension Check. . We have also checked the Global Standard,
and there is no standard for tire height. So, we need to develop new system.

Based on QMS, Final Inspection Section has implemented Individual Roll, it’s time to CFT to
take its role as an organization to improve process and enhance the system

How CFT get a spec? We have confirmed to the Tire Eval, they have Inflate specs, but not spec
UN-inflate. So we are conduct measurement comparison with Inflate and UN-inflate
measurement, there is gap cause no inflate and side wall band factor. And we determine spec

First, we only check by visual when booking of the tire, if any different height inspector confirm
with the ruler, if the difference is too high from 10mm, that tire is Out Spec. this measurement
only when inspector in doubt, not 100% check, if flat easy to detect, but if uneven its difficult

The next method we check in line inspection after appearance inspection, with the ruler
confirmation, but this method is not effective because during the inspection process tires that
come are different in size, the operator must often set the height of ruler to take measurements.

The next method is measure with the wicket. If tire touch wicket, that tire is OK, but if tire pass
the wicket, that tire is Out Spec. finally, we found the easy method. But we still have problem,
this method can’t detect diameter over

We Conduct the meeting, because the wicket that we use is can only catch on Diameter Minus.
So, we are improving the wicket by adding an iron to check OD Over. It is Effective? Hamzah
please let Us Know.

Let’s check the video about how to use the wicket after improving. First, take the tire that want
to check. Second, take the wicket as same with the tire. Third, roll the tire into the wicket for
check OD minus OK or not. Fourth, roll again the tire into extra iron for check OD Over. What
do you see after see the video?

As we can see. Related Quality: there is many variations size and wickets, High RPN Potential
for wrong use the wickets.

Safety, There is potentials finger pinched and foot hit by the wicket, And Related Environment:
many wickets make a seedy in working area. So the Working area and handling tire is not safe
and comfortable.

See on terms of delivery, operator feel so tired because must to change many of the wickets and
do a check 2 times with a same tire

From the phenomenon we have found, there is no fixed method to check tire Height. So, our
focus theme is “Diameter Measurement System Development for Unique Bias Tire”

Well, we do a meeting with CFT Team to determine what we want to do. And the result is we are
agreeing to install Tire Diameter Machine

(Slide 21) I
Then we determine the target of our activities, starting from Safety, Work area, quality, cost,
delivery, and also about Target trial mc & schedule determine by CFT Team.

We conduct a study related to the detection method used, with the above criteria, there are three
sensor options to be used, and the best sensor is light curtain sensor, so we agree to kaizen the
detection system from the wicket to the sensor detection.

Finally we install the tire detection mc. which can detect the diameter of over or minus. If the
result is OK, light turns green. If NG light turn red. And the measurement results can appear on
the monitor. And to ensure the results we make calibration and standardization tools. Then what
is the implementation

Fine, I'll try to explain, for the calibration control we have done it , the results displayed also
correspond to the iron height, meaning the calibration is OK. Related to the use of the MC, the
result mc can detect, but operators find it difficult to find the index number size because many
size variations.

We analyze that there are 300 sizes in 6 pages on the monitor. So we made improvements by
printing out the index number size and placing it in the machine area. Can you seen by
comparison. Previously, it needs 34 sec to find the index number size. After just 20 sec, But the
results we wanted were still not satisfying.

We were holding a meeting with the CFT team. How to be able to find the size quickly, can
prevent incorrect processing because of seeing the wrong size number index, and. The result of
the meeting is adding a menu to find the size just by typing in the size code.

Here is an illustration from the menu to find the size just by typing the size code. The result is
the time needed to find the size decreases dramatically, becoming faster and easier.

Can be seen in comparison to the process of checking the tire height. Previously we needed a
long time when checking with the goal. Now the time needed is faster after a high-diameter tire
machine is used. Inggil please let us know about the evaluation result.

OK I will Explain, Related Safety and Environment there is potential finger pinched, foot hit by
the wicket and many wicket in the working Area. With Fix MC, There is no potential Safety &
Environment Issue

Related Quality, before check method with visual there is high RPN and quality level is C, and
after improve with mc QA level became B1, And RPN Down, We can reduce risk of abnormal
tire diameter send to Customer, and as we can see after improvement voice of customer became
ZD

Next related Cost we can save the cost because there is no Claim
And Related Delivery, work Became Smooth and easy before need time 87 sec. and after just 67
sec

And the following is a resume evaluation target in safety, environment, quality, cost, and
delivery according to the target and began to be used in August 2018. All Target Activity items
can be achieved.

OK That good Achievement, The following is the kaizen standardization that we have done, sir;
we have also made a visual standard and have done socialization to all members.
