The Mice
Mice live in our walls BUT1 do not trouble our kitchen. We are pleased BUT2 cannot understand why
they do not come into our kitchen where we have traps set, AS3 they come into the kitchens of our
neighbors. ALTHOUGH4 we are pleased, we are also upset, BECAUSE5 the mice behave AS
THOUGH6 there were something wrong with our kitchen. What makes this even more puzzling is that
our house is much less tidy THAN7 the houses of our neighbors. There is more food lying about in our
kitchen, more crumbs on the counters and filthy scraps of onion kicked against the base of the cabinets. In
fact, there is so much loose food in the kitchen I can only think the mice themselves are defeated by it. In
a tidy kitchen, it is a challenge for them to find enough food night after night to survive until spring. They
patiently hunt and nibble hour after hour UNTIL8 they are satisfied. In our kitchen, however, they are
faced with something so out of proportion to their experience that they cannot deal with it. They might
venture out a few steps, but soon the overwhelming sights AND9 smells drive them back into their holes,
uncomfortable AND10 embarrassed at not being able to scavenge AS11 they should.

ANSWER:
1. But – coordinating
2. But – coordinating
3. As – subordinating
4. Although – subordinating
5. Because – subordinating
6. As though – subordinating
7. Than – subordinating
8. Until – subordinating
9. And – coordinating
10. And – coordinating
11. As - subordinating

SHORT STORY:
You're Un-'bear'-able

Her name is Wilhelmina. She is only five years old. I really love Teddy Bears. They are so huggable and
cuddly. Everytime I saw a Teddy Bear, there is something that makes me attracted to it. I got one as a gift
from my uncle. My Teddy Bear is very cute it is round-shape and really soft. The color of my Teddy Bear
is pink, and its eyes is round and black in color.

I started to like Teddy Bears when my uncle bought me one on my 8th birthday, that day is really
unforgettable for me because it makes me appreciate the real beauty of a Teddy Bear.

I hug her when I'm studying, eating, sleeping and talking with my love ones on the phone. Besides that, I
bring her everywhere I go such as when i go to a family outing or vacation. I also take good care of her
like washing and combing her hair. I placed my Teddy Bear at the corner of my bed with my pillow so
that we sleep together.

However, her dad was always drunk and her mom was a drug addict. Her parents kept her locked in an
attic. Sadly, the only friend she have is her little teddy bear. It was old and worn out and had patches on
its head. She always talks to it when no one's around. She lays there and hugs it when she feels sad.

Until her parents unlocked the door . Thus, a world full of pain awaits for her. Bruises on her leg and a
scars on her face. She grabs her bear and softly cries. She loves her parents but, they cant turn it back, in
fact, they wanted her to die. While watching her parents quarreling, she finds a little comfort in leaning on
the corner of the house.

Heart-breaking, it is a bad life for a sad little kid. She'd got beaten and beaten for everything she did.

Then one night, her mom came home being high on drugs. The poor child was hit and slapped as hours
went by. Then her mom suddenly grab a blade with sharp edges that her mother used to sharpen. She put
the blade right in her chest while saying, " You deserve to die, You worthless pest!"

Her mom walked out, leaving the girl slowly dying. She grabbed her bear and again started crying.
Police showed up at their house and quickly barged in. Everything was as quiet as a mouse. An officer
slowly opened the door and saw a little girl dying on the floor. Obviously, it had been through so much
harm and pain. But at least she died with her bestfriend in her arms.
