DISTINGUISH COMPONENTS AND MODELS OF THE RESEARCH PROCESS 2

Article 1

The methodology format used in this study is quantitative. Quantitative is a method of

research that relies on measuring variables using a numerical system, analyzing these

measurements using any of a variety of statistical models, and reporting relationships and

associations and associations among the studied variables (Lucas-Alfieri, 2015). I concluded

being quantitative because the study uses a vast number of subjects and the relationship of

numerous variables through data collected analyzed statistically. The theories generated by

quantitative methods are normative, and they suggest propositions to explain relationships (Blais

& Hayes, 2016).

During the study, the population of interest consisted of Licensed Practical Nurses,

Registered Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants belonging to the professional sector of the

education. The study investigated the errors in charting and the number of mistakes involved

while charting to improve the documentation process. The study states correct and reliable

nursing documentation favors communication between the members of the nursing team and the

multidisciplinary team, promotes nursing care, helps achieve professional goals, meets legal

requirements, helps the quality of care and demonstrates credibility (Dutra, Mendes, Carneiro,

Costa, Barboza & Ribeiro, 2016).

During the study, there was an intervention that demonstrated the difference before and

after the Intervention. After the initial evaluation of 465 charts before training, and 365 charts

after the training for proper documentation totaling 826 charts reviewed. This study was

performed in different sectors of the teaching hospital, which identified improvement in two out

of the six departments while the others saw little or no change. The study used a comparison

between sectors of the hospital, the staff, shifts, and number of offenses. The statistical data

collected consisted of the number of charts before the intervention and post-intervention to

render the result of the investigation. The outcome of the research concluded that education

contributed positively to how the different teams performed. Although the study was limited by

the use of one hospital only, it clearly showed that professionalism and knowledge provide in

how a team works together, and collecting correct vital information with proper charting affects

the outcome on a multidisciplinary level with the result of the patient outcome.

P = The population included the evaluation of a total of 826 charts as samples from the nursing

staff within the intensive care unit, male clinic, female clinic, pediatrics, male surgery, and

female surgery departments to find opportunities for improvement through education of the

nursing staff.

I = Intervention through educating the nursing staff in the six departments on classes to chart

accurately.

C = The comparison consisted of 465 sample charts before the Intervention and 365 sample

charts post-intervention totaling 826 samples.

O = The outcome determined that there is an improvement in the charting process through

education.

The methodology format used in this study is qualitative. Qualitative Research is

primarily exploratory research. It is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons,

opinions, and motivations (DeFranzo, 2011). I concluded that the study is qualitative in nature

because it is not based on numerical data, but instead, the study generates contextual data.

The study was concentrated on pediatric nurses, pediatric patients, and their families as

the population of interest. The study investigated the coping and approach in dealing with

pediatric death, their families, and their interpretation while dealing with events of this nature.

Nurses who seek to maintain or improve both their personal and professional selves are more

effective in caring for their clients (Blais & Hayes, 2016). The article tells us to identify

emotional responses, nursing actions, nursing interpretation of the dying pediatric’s patient

actions, and family concerns (Curcio, 2017). I could not find any intervention given in the study,

and there were no other studies available for comparison or numerical data that could be

measured for quantitative purposes. The outcome of the study finds how nurses are able to adapt

and use censoring as a coping mechanism. Censoring, mediated through the actions of self-

preservation, provides strength and endurance (Curcio, 2017). A need for censoring research is

needed to be used in human life as a process of adaptation.

P = The population consisted of Pediatric nurses, Pediatric patients, and their families.

I = No intervention was developed in the study

C = No comparison was available for the study.

O = The outcome concluded nurses are able to adapt and use censoring as a coping mechanism.

A need for more censoring research is needed
