UNDERSTANDING GOAL: Students will understand that present continuous is used to describe
images, pictures and actions that are occurring now.

PERFORMANCE OF UNDERSTANDING: Students identify correctly the present continuous tense and
differentiate it from the present simple.
TIME: 50 minutes.
INTRODUCTION TO PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Exploration:
1. Imagine three (3) things you do as routine these days. Express them in English.
2. Next, think about one thing that you are doing IN THIS EXACT MOMENT! How can you
express it? Can you express it like the things in the routine?

Clarification:

1. What does Messi do? Look at the p icture (Picture 1) and find the answer.
2. Look at the images in the C olumn A (Picture 2).
3. In your English notebook, copy the date, the number of the Workshop. After that, copy the
table below and complete the sentences in the Column A (a, b and c) using what you
learned in your last unit (Unit 1):

Explanation chart:
Like in Spanish, when we talk about what happens at the moment, we create sentences that
include two (2) verbs: the auxiliary verb to be followed by a Principal verb ending in -ing

Application:

1. In your English notebook, complete the sentences d, e and f of the table that you copied,
using the present continuous tense and based on the images in the C olumn B (Picture 2).
2. In your English notebook, write three more examples about things that you or your family
are doing at the moment.

Criteria:
1. Students differentiate correctly the present continuous tense from other tenses learned
before.

1. Identify the friendly words. (Words in English that look similar to Spanish)
2. H ighlight the unknown words. (New words in English)
3. Use the dictionary to understand the unknown words and write these new words in your
English notebooks.
4. Ask to one of your family members for help to understand the information in the
workshop.
5. Contact your English teacher. Each school has established how.
