Introduction

In this work you will find the development of the application exercises proposed in the
activity guide Post-task - Final activity. In which the step-by-step procedures are
detailed.
Application exercises:

For the development of the following exercises, note that 𝐺𝐺 corresponds to the group
number and 𝐶𝐶𝐶 to the first 3 digits of the identification number.
1. An electromagnetic wave of 𝑓 = 185 𝑀𝐻𝑧 is transmitted from the bottom of a ship
to a receiver located at 𝑝 = 1 𝐾𝑚 depth. The wave is emitted with an advance
angle of 𝑎 = (5 + 47)°. Determine the time it takes for the wave to reach the
receiver.
𝑓 = 185 𝑀𝐻𝑧
𝑎 = 52°
𝑝 = 1 𝐾𝑚
For development, follow the following steps:

a. Calculate the tangent of losses 𝑇𝑎𝑛(𝛿).

𝑇𝑎𝑛(𝛿) = 𝟒, 𝟖𝟓𝟖

𝛿 = tan−1(4,858) = 𝟕𝟖, 𝟑𝟕
b. Classify the behavior of the medium.
Classification of propagation media.

0,1 < Tan(δ) <= 10

60 < δ <= 840
Media: Dissipative dielectrics (Dielectrics with losses)

c. Calculate the propagation parameters of the wave 𝛾, 𝛼 and 𝛽.

Propagation parameters in open media.

Propagation constant  (gamma)

 = √𝑗𝜔𝜇(𝜎 + 𝑗𝜔𝜀)

 = √𝑗𝜔𝜇(𝜎 + 𝑗𝜔𝜀) = √𝑗2𝜋𝑓𝜇𝑟 𝜇0 (𝜎 + 𝑗2𝜋𝑓εr ε𝑜 )

 = √𝑖 ∗ 2 ∗ 𝜋 ∗ 185 ∗ 106 ∗ 1 ∗ 4 ∗ 𝜋 ∗ 10−7 ∗ (4 + 𝑖 ∗ 2 ∗ 𝜋 ∗ 185 ∗ 106 ∗ 80 ∗ 8.8542 ∗ 10−12 )

 = 𝟒𝟖, 𝟕𝟗𝟖𝟔 + 𝒊𝟓𝟗, 𝟖𝟔𝟔𝟒
a. Attenuation constant  (Alpha)
 = 𝟒𝟖, 𝟕𝟗𝟖𝟔 𝐍𝐩/𝐦

b. Phase constant  (Beta).

 = 𝟓𝟗, 𝟖𝟔𝟔𝟒 𝑹𝒂𝒅/𝒎

d. Calculate the propagation speed of the 𝑉𝑝 wave.

Propagation speed 𝒗𝒑 .

𝜔 2𝜋𝑓 2 ∗ 𝜋 ∗ 185 ∗ 106 1⁄𝑠 1162,39 ∗ 106 1⁄𝑠

𝛽 𝛽 59,8664𝑅𝑎𝑑/𝑚 59,8664 𝑅𝑎𝑑/𝑚
𝒗𝒑 = 𝟏𝟗, 𝟒𝟏𝟔 𝒙 𝟏𝟎𝟔 𝒎⁄𝒔

e. Calculate the distance between the ship and the receiver 𝑑.

𝑎 = 52°
𝑝 = 1 𝐾𝑚 = 1000 𝑚
1000𝑚 1000 𝑚
𝑑= = = 1624,17 𝑚
cos 52° 0,6157
𝒅 = 𝟏𝟔𝟐𝟒, 𝟏𝟕 𝒎
f. Based on 𝑉𝑝 and 𝑑 determine the time 𝑡 of the route.

𝑑 =𝑉∗𝑡
𝑑 1624,17 𝑚
𝑡= = = 83,65 𝑥 10−6 𝑠
𝑉𝑝 19,416 𝑥 106 𝑚⁄𝑠

𝒕 = 𝟖𝟑, 𝟔𝟓 𝒙 𝟏𝟎−𝟔 𝒔
Conclusions

The conclusions should be written with their own words and should focus on the
concepts explored, learned, discovered and practiced in the development of the activity,
it is suggested to present a conclusion by topic, the result of learning obtained as
evidence of conceptual assimilation.

To obtain a good writing it is suggested to read the written several times, correcting
and adjusting the text until obtaining a clear and coherent postulate. Avoid superficiality
and simplicity.
