2 PROCESS
®
The OmniSulf process is configured to treat all the feed gas in one gas processing train, in the following
called UNIT. The UNIT consists of a Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGR), a Claus Unit (CLS), a Tail Gas
Treating Unit (TGT), an Incineration Unit (INC) and a Degassing process (Hold).
Feed gas from the offshore facilities in the Persian Gulf is received in the Slug Catcher and preheated,
®
depressurised and metered prior to be processed in the OmniSulf process.
Treated gas, free of CO2, Sulphur components and water, enters the Liquefaction Unit via a Dehydration
and Mercaptan Removal Unit (DMR), a Mercaptan Recovery Unit (MRU) and a Mercury Removal Unit
for LNG production. DMR, MRU and Mercury Removal downstream the unit are not in the licensor’s
scope of work.

2.1 PROCESS DESCRIPTION

aMDEA Acid Gas Removal - Unit 02 - AGR
The aMDEA PROCESS is implemented for removing acid gas components CO2 , H2S and COS from
the Feed Gas stream from battery limit to the unit 02.
In this process activated MDEA is used as a liquid washing agent, recirculated in a washing loop.
The process uses a MDEA/water solution with a certain amount of activator. This amount of activator
depends on the CO2 partial pressure, the desired gas purity and how much energy is available.
Streams leaving the AGR are Flash Gas to the Incinerator Unit 09, Acid Gas to TGT Unit 09 and Clean
Gas to DMR Unit 03 outside of battery limit.

CLAUS - Unit 09 - CLS

The CLAUS PROCESS recovers Sulphur from gases. For optimum operation, in the CLAUS PROCESS
Lurgi’s Multi-Purpose-Burner is used. Mercaptane Gas from the MRU unit 03 will be burnt completely in
the muffle. Rich Acid Gas from the TGT Unit 09 will be processed in the lances around the burner muffle.
The H2S contained in the Rich Acid Gas is first converted partly to SO2 and will react with this SO2 to
form Sulphur and water. The reaction is further driven towards the production of Sulphur by reaction of
the remaining SO2 and H2S in catalytic converters. Sulphur produced is condensed and separated after
each step. The Sulphur stream will be sent to the Degassing Unit. The Claus Tail Gas will be sent to the
TGT Unit 09.

TAIL GAS TREATMENT and ACID GAS ENRICHMENT - Unit 09 - TGT

The TGT process is used for removal of Sulphur compounds from the Claus Tail Gas coming from the
Claus Unit 09 and includes an Acid Gas Enrichment step (AGE) for the Acid Gas coming from the AGR
Unit 02.
By means of a catalyst all Sulphur compounds contained in the Claus Tail Gas and the AGE Off Gas are
hydrogenated to H2S. After the process water is removed by a quench configuration, the Claus Tail Gas
is routed to a gas washing loop using generic amine solvent.
The gas washing loop consists of two absorbers and one common regeneration section for the amine
solvent.
In the first absorber (TGT Absorber), H2S is removed selectively from the hydrogenated Claus Tail Gas.
The TGT Tail Gas leaving the absorber is sent to the Incinerator Unit 09.
In the second absorber (AGE Absorber) the Acid Gas from the AGR Unit 02 is treated to produce an
AGE Off Gas with a low H2S content, which is routed to the Hydrogenation part of TGT.

3 BATTERY LIMITS

3.1 DEFINITION OF BATTERY LIMITS

The definition of the location of the UNIT and geographic area of the UNIT will be clearly depicted in the
respective layout plans.
Battery Limit for the Basic Process Engineering package means dealing with all process streams
passing the B.L. of the attached Block Flow Diagrams as well as all internal process streams. All utility
streams are engineered only within the process units. Interconnecting utility streams to be engineered by
the FEED contractor.
The following detailed explanations are for defining battery limits shown on P&Ids:

“Battery Limit” for an incoming process material line (e.g. feed gas, fuel gas, regeneration gas)
shall mean 1 m before first process related control device, or, if applicable, check valve or
spectacle blind.

“Battery Limit” for an outgoing process material line (product gas, fuel gas, off gas, off water) shall
mean 1 m after the last process related control device, or, if applicable, check valve or
spectacle blind.

“Battery Limit” for an incoming cooling water line shall mean 1 m before the flange of the
respective cooling water consumer.

“Battery Limit” for an outgoing cooling water line shall mean 1 m after the flange of the respective
cooling water consumer.

“Battery Limit” for an incoming Boiler Feed water line (steam production) shall mean 1 m before
the control device for the BFW flow rate control device before the steam raising vessel.

“Battery Limit” for an outgoing steam line (steam production) shall mean 1 m after the last steam
pressure control device related to the steam producer.

“Battery Limit” for an outgoing condensate line (condensate production) shall mean 1 m after the
last condensate control device or steam trap related to the condensate producer.

“Battery Limit” for an outgoing blow down condensate line (steam production) shall mean 1 m after
the condensate outlet flange of the respective steam raising vessel.

“Battery limit” for flare connections shall mean directly after the respective safety or control valve.

“Battery Limit” for off gas streams to atmosphere shall be directly at the location where the gas is
vented.(Top of the stack)

“Battery Limit” for control loops interconnecting between UNIT and other processes shall mean
directly at the control device inside the Unit.
