The client, Exxon Mobile / Qatar Petroleum, wishes to establish an LNG facility on the Persian Gulf
coast, in Ras – Laffan City. The LNG plant will receive, process and store LNG in one train.
The feed gas must be treated in the gas treating facilities to remove all CO2 to prevent freezing in the
downstream liquefaction plant and remove Sulphur components in order to meet LNG product
specifications.
The purpose of this document is to summarize the technical specification and requirements to be used
®
by Lurgi Öl Gas Chemie GmbH in preparing the Basic Process Engineering for the OmniSulf process.
Lurgi will consider Chiyoda’s following project procedures and/or project specifications to extent as it is
necessary and relevant for the scope of Lurgi’s supply:
QG II/20/02/PR/TS/NA/001 Technical Requirement for Acid Gas Removal and Dehydration Unit 02 / 03
QG II/24/09/PR/DP/NA/001 Technical Requirement for Sulphur Recovery Unit
QG II/20/09/PR/TS/NA/001 Technical Specification for Design & Fabrication of Sulfur Recover Units
QG II/20/00/PE/PC/NA/301 Document Numbering Procedure
QG II/20/00/PE/PC/NA/303 Equipment / Line / Instrument Numbering Procedure
QGII/20/00/ME/TS/NA/603 Technical Specification For Design & Fabrication of Refractory Lining of
Sulfur Recovery Unit
2 PROCESS
®
The OmniSulf process is configured to treat all the feed gas in one gas processing train, in the following
called UNIT. The UNIT consists of a Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGR), a Claus Unit (CLS), a Tail Gas
Treating Unit (TGT), an Incineration Unit (INC) and a Degassing process (Hold).
Feed gas from the offshore facilities in the Persian Gulf is received in the Slug Catcher and preheated,
®
depressurised and metered prior to be processed in the OmniSulf process.
Treated gas, free of CO2, Sulphur components and water, enters the Liquefaction Unit via a Dehydration
and Mercaptan Removal Unit (DMR), a Mercaptan Recovery Unit (MRU) and a Mercury Removal Unit
for LNG production. DMR, MRU and Mercury Removal downstream the unit are not in the licensor’s
scope of work.
The PROCESSES belonging to the UNIT are interconnected as depicted in the below Block Flow
Scheme:

SWEET GAS
The purified and conditioned product gas to be send to the DMR unit has the following properties:
Quality:
H2S content (ppm vol) 2.0 (guaranteed value)
CO2 content (ppm vol): 10.0 (guaranteed value)
COS content (ppm vol): 1.0 (guaranteed value)
Methyl Mercaptan content (ppm vol): 75.0 (expected value)
Ethyl Mercaptan content (ppm vol): 140.0 (expected value)
LIQUID SULPHUR
Quality:
Purity (dry basis): ≥ 99.8 %
1)
H2S: ≤ 10 ppm wt
Ash: ≤ 300 ppm wt.
Organics: ≤ 500 ppm wt.
Color: Bright yellow
1) The H2S content of the liquid sulphur can only be guaranteed with a Degassing unit included in the
package.
The total sulfur recovery rate shall be based on the feed gas to AGRU plus SO2 feed to SRU (Total
Sulfur Feed). The overall sulfur recovery achieved in SRU shall be >99.0%.
The total sulfur recovery shall be guaranteed as more than 99.0% of the sulfur contained in the Total
Sulfur Feed. Sulfur recovery shall be calculated using the following equation ;
The sulfur recovery guarantee shall be based upon the maximum mercaptan co-absorption by the
Acid Gas Removal Unit (Unit 02) solvent specified by AGR Licensor. The mercaptan (RSH) removed
in Unit 02 will be fed to the AGE and processed to the TGTU Hydrogenation Reactor. Non-converted
mercaptans will be released to Incinerator.
*)
Mercaptan Species Co-Absorption Rate
C1SH 50 %
C2SH 40 %
C3SH 15 %
C4SH 10 %
C5SH+ 10 %
*): Max. expected co-Absorption rate in AGR (Unit 02).
(3) Lurgi shall prepare the plant overall sulfur material balance for all feed gas cases to account for all
the sulfur entering the AGRU. Material balance data for facilities outside of Lurgi scope will be
provided by Chiyoda.
The overall unit is designed for processing the amount of gas specified in chapter 3.1. For the turn down
this gas capacity is defined as 100%. The turn down ratio of the unit is 40% of the design gas capacity.
